It's unfortunate that I enjoy ME2 so much, because I'd likely be a far happier person if i just uinstalled the damn thing.
I'm getting regularly antagonized by my squad mates. I'm finding it IMPOSSIBLE to keep them alive. I can only think that I'm either missing something obvious or theres a pretty significant glitch in the game.
At the onset of each battle, i assign my mates to hide behind something. They behave fine for a minute or two. However, they always forget their orders and just stand in wide open and blindfire at things. I'm aware, btw, that they go back to /follow at the end of combat, and that's fine. My issue is that, although they're "attached" to a surface, they insist on standing in the open and emptying entire magazines, reloading, and doing it again w/o hiding.
Terrible, frustrating AI

Have you tried switching them away from full auto weapons? I mostly notice this with allies using SMGs, not Carnifex/Vindicator/Viper.
Just a thought. May not solve your problem - as was just discussed in another post, Tactical Cloak is hard on your allies, so it can depend significantly on your class.

I'm a soldier /w bonus trait "Geth Shield Boost." To try to keep them alive, I frequently throw myself in front of them and pop shield boost to try to give their bloodlust time to cooldown.
I'll try semi automatics but it still irritates me.

Manage them yourself. Letting them die and / or using medi-gel is fine too. My squad mates only die when I'm too lazy to take care of them.

Quite often one of them will simply not go where you command them and will lag behind way in the back in crouch mode. You can spam the direction and they still will do whatever they want and it seems like the only way to "fix" that is to either reset the mission or let them die. This is before any kind of fighting starts too, because once the fighting starts you can expect to see them dead in a matter of seconds. It usually happens if you are coming down off a ramp or some stairs.

They need to include some type of AI switch like aggressive, defensive, neutral. Or they just need to make it so squadmates don't pop their heads out if their health is at 50% or lower.

Your allies also have a problem with getting stuck out of cover when they get hit by a knock back ability while in cover. This usually leads to them standing crouched just out of their cover and to constantly shoot at the chest high wall in front of them instead of the enemies until you reset their cover orders.

* I am playing on PC.
* I am managing my group members as much as I possibly can. The issue is that they get stuck fully-upright, supress fire until they run out of ammo, then do it again. They rarely live past the second magazine.
I rarely end up in a situation where my group members get knocked back. I usually soak up the warps and harbinger pwnage myself, or trick them in to throwing said in to walls.
The only time my group members seem to competely disregard my commands all together is when they're stuck on something... usually me. They have a hard time getting around shepards body to duck behind a wall.

I just order my squad to hide far behind sometimes. I only need them for their powers, not their guns.
