Before I go any furthur, let me just state for the record that I am NOT Dwarfist and this is NOT meant as a " troll thread ". I just have a problem playing Dwarves, I have a hard time taking them seriously, especially when it comes to romancing ( it just feels and looks so wrong !! lol ) Also graphically I think they look a bit " weird " in certain armour, especially around the legs. Facialy, I think that female dwarves can look very beautifull and one of the prettiest characters I have made yet was a female dwarf rogue ( obviously not the one pictured in my avatar lol ) I was wondering if anyone else felt this way ?

i kinda always place the dwarfs in the sidekick genere. I don't like to play them myself... And as for their romances.. I would have wished Bio would go for the "Dwarves can't mate with other races due to their differance etc." that tolkien and WOTC took. It just seems so wrong..

That said Dwarven Noble might just be my favourite Orgin.

I have similar feelings to the OP. I usually play humans, will play Elves for a walk on the wild side... but as much as I love the dwarven characters I've seen others play, I could never "get in the skin" of a dwarf... too much unintentional hilarity, which I know is my fault.

However, the Dwarven Noble Origin changed this for me. It was that epic.

I normally hate dwarves (and elves for that matter to) however the dwarf origins kicked ass and I have no problem with playing them (though female dwarves have freakish arms)

I hate Dwarfs. I like the origins but otherwise Orzammar is one of the most boring places to play through.

Yea the arms do seem rather freakishly long :(

That avatar! It seems our fates are intertwined, you and I... ...Such lovely eyes! What luscious lips and extravagantly supple skin...

...Dwarven women kind of look funny to me. Their arms bug me the most, since they seem to go down as far as their male counterparts, which is extremely disturbing considering how much smaller the female structure ends up being. Failed elegance, I guess.

I really love the dwarves. I've played the dwarf noble twice and the dwarf commoner once. (Will finish a second dwarf commoner before Awakenings.) The elves are just OK. The human noble origin has a lot more narcissism present than the other origins. (I'd give examples, but this is a no-spoiler zone.) The only reason why there are no dwarven romances because they would just ruin you for the other romantic interests. Wenches and ale, yarrrr!

Not to mention the longest !! I have ended up with a beard the same length as a Dwarf doing the Orzamar quest lol !!

I think we are just all not used to seeing dwarven females without facial hair ;)

I could never get myself to play dwarves in any sort of rpg.  Not d&d, not eq2, not nwn2, nwn1, not DA.  They have just never appealed to me.

I have a serious issue with the length of their arms... it.... scares me slightly Dx

Other than that, I don't mind them.

Part of it is that the male dwarf model in DA seems to be proportioned on the assumption of lots of hair and a big beard.

The looker in my avatar, with a shaved head and stubble, looks like a tiny head perched on top of a giant body when wearing his armor.

Also, tiny feet, which is not explained by the hair issue. Bioware, give our dwarves bigger feet!

Aldridgeguy, aww, thanks! She's my character in Mass Effect 2. The ME character creator leaves a lot to be desired, especially compared to how well the DAO one works, but there is a web site dedicated to creating appealing characters (fun submissions include faces that looks like Bruce Willis and John Locke from "Lost"). In case you want to look for ideas before you get the game:

www.masseffect2faces.com/

Now ... I'm trying to wade through the threads and figure out if the Orlesian Warden starts out as human or if it can be any race. The thought of having a third dwarf character to play is making me weak in the knees!

Well for romantic appeal I just can't do it seriously. However I like Dwarves, I don't really find anything wrong with them.

I started the Dwarf Noble origin last night, and I do have to admit it's pretty cool so far. But normally I'm a Dwarf-hater too. Ugh, the thought of any Dwarf making out with a human or Elf is so wrong. I wish they had included a token Dwarf romance option just to save the rest of us the risk of ever seeing or having to think about it.

I like dwarves but I usually can't really get into playing them myself, but like have them as companions (I tend more to play elves or humans, or tieflings in d&d based games sometimes). I do like what they did with the dwarven culture in DA though, it was very interesting

Where do you want to start, apart from being ugly little critters, they drink lots & dont bother shaving.
I'll take the Drow stance, kill them all. Its like Gnomes thankfully Origins spared us those.

Shale Quake'd those in their boots.
Though fair point, I didnt mind Harrowmount. Good voice, good dialogue. Kagain in BG1 was great also only dwarf I liked as a companion because he was acually "funny". "Pansy elves, damn forests" voice/dialogues rather than drunk.

Also played a dwarf in nwn online for about a year, couldnt really think up much beyond roleplaying a drunk with an Axe. Sigh. I guess iam a dwarfist. Posted Image

Male/female
Drunk
Warrior
Axe
Comic

They dont really go any further than that, this is the problem imo. In Origins bioware did their take on elves but dwarfs remain largely the same, or lack of difference.

I love dwarves, and I think the dwarven women have really pretty faces. One of my prettiest characters was a dwarf but...

The romance is so ridiculous. I tried romancing Alistair with my noble dwarf and I couldn't do it. The scenes were terrible, and I couldn't continue. I just wish they had a dwarf romance option.

That should be their motto or something. [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/happy.png[/smilie]
