Well, there's no evidence to suggest DA2 will be a direct sequel and plenty of evidence to suggest that it won't

Wait what?

I'm curious, what is the reason DLC items don't carry over? Technical reasons, laziness?

Don't get me wrong, I'm more then likely to get Awakening anyway, but it's quite unfun to start naked... Not only, that DLC had no impact on the main story at all, now the items are devaluated as well. Great way to advertise future DLC sales.

So aside from the obvious fun of the new gear, aren't the DLCs pretty pointless now that we know they won't carry over into Awakening?  Presumably, if there's a Dragon Age 2, you would import from Awakening or whatever expansion comes after it.  So if the DLCs don't carry over into Awakening, doesn't that mean they essential never happened?  You never got Shale, you never re-took Warden's Keep, you never gave Cailen a proper burial.  All of these things are kinda important in their own way, and it just seems really lame to have them no longer matter into the expansion and any future games.
Anyone know anything new?  I'd love to be proven wrong, cause right now it seems like the DLCs were just stripped of all meaning.

lol they become pointless after the toolset/DAnexus came out, they have better armor/ cool quests for free. lol which is really something, cuase these are modders who spend their free time/engery on something people love, for free. And all they get in return is recongiztion and thanks, you can't put a price on that. Because its priceless, I always found that aspect of nexus profound. So yeah lol DLC is pretty pointless now XD.

Like the song from Click

"the best things in life are free......"

This is just like when Bethesda released the Shivering Isles expansion and it was incompatible with previous DLC items. Oh wait, never mind thats incorrect. THE ITEMS CARRIED OVER. So I do not see where this counter argument is coming from. Considering that you have the ability import the same character you used in DA:O, with the same skills you should also import their inventory. All that DLC is on the hard disk its not like that content isn't there, it is there it just doesn't count for some reason. It was also extremely lame in the second NWN expansion when it deleted your inventory. Sure you got better equipment later on, but to start out with you did not and were needlessly handicapped for it.

Sure there a few expansions out there that do this, most of them are stand alones that a seperate from the main storyline however.

This won't affect my mage much, but my warrior is losing almost all his gear. Why make me start the expansion naked and weaponless? Why intentionally frustrate your best customers? Where's the upside?

It doesn't bother me at all. To be honest, I am a little surprised that people are getting worked up about it. If it is loot and cool items people are interested in then there will be a huge amount of shiny new items in the expansion.

And I strongly disagree with the notion that being unable to carry items forward into Awakening makes the DLCs "pointless". I didn't get them for the items in the first place, that wasn't the "point". I got the DLCs to expand the game and have more fun things to do. I cannot understand why people would buy DLC for the loot in a single player game such as Dragon Age.

My gear is just as much part of my PC as my stats and skills. I do not min/max a lot, I often choose gear based on looks and how it fits the personality of my PC. And since DLC gear is the best looking I use it a lot. Some items also have sentimental value, like Duncans weapons, the Warden Commander Armor. Of course we get new gear but it makes NO SENSE at all.

I would never expect the DLC items to carry over to a sequel, but come on, this is an expansion. I don't think I ever played an expansion where I lost my previous gear.

Gosh why is everyone saying that they will start naked? Ok i understand the problem with paying money for that stuff (i did too), but naked? Did you throw all the armor that you got besides the DLC? Don't you have wade's armor, legion of the dead armor and co? Besides Herren and Gorim (?) will be back, so they will be making more stuff for ya.

I was a little bit dissapointed that i can't use Duncan's weapons (i did RoT at the end, after slaying the archdemon) but i bought RoT just to see what happened to King Cailan. And it had a huge impact on my view of the world.

Sure, I can reload my Origins game, mug the Dead Legion set off of Oghren, and make a special save to start from. However, if I started from my epilogue save, as is, my warrior would be naked and unarmed.

So does that mean future expansion[if there is any] will probably do the same(transfer no DLC items)? What my character did in DLC has no impact on "Awakening" makes me feel upset already...

It's my guess that support for DA:O has stopped. Any pacthes and future DLCs will focus on the expansion.

I still can't believe that these items won't transfer over? How could Bioware think that this was for the best? I'm just speechless.

Great... so after all that with the DLCs, especially RTO, it's pointless past Origins...
That's just not smart.

You have a point...people coming to play DA:O after this point, might not buy the dlcs at all....I"m thinking.

If thats the case, Bioware may have shot themselves in the foot.

I can understand why it seems childish to complain about the DLC items being gone, but the argument is that people paid extra specifically for certain items.

Granted, Starfang was just a small part of Warden's Keep, so there's not much to complain about. Plus, you start off Awakening as the Grey Warden Commander, so there's a good chance you're going to get a better version of the Warden Commander Armor when you start up anyway.

Cailan's Armor, and Duncan's weapons are the one thing I will agree with. Most people, if these forums are any indication, only purchased that DLC just for the armor and weapons. That's about the only thing I can understand being angry about, since reaistically, you paid $5 for in-game gear.

Aside from that, Shale is dead or off on her own thing, so of course she won't be in it.

I just wanted to be able to import Cailan's armour, his weapons, Duncan's blades, the Warden Commander armour and Starfang, as well as the numerous assortments of nice equipment that the Stone Prisoner DCL included into the expansion pack, but now based on what I've seen it's ether going to be lost when you import the character. I sincerely hope that after the initial game is released, that a patch is developed to ensure that DCL equipment carries into the game. It would be a terrible shame to have lost all that because of a game technicality.

The whole reason I bought RtO was to get the King's Armor, because the character I wanted it for was the one I was having marry Anora. He'd be king, would need the armor. Looks like that whole plan is out the window. YAAAAAY BIOWARE. Great idea. Now not only do we have an overpriced Expansion, it also makes it so we have paid 13$ or more for the other add ons for nothing. Woot woot.

This is shocking. I love Bioware, but this is EXTREMELY disapointing and totally unlogic.

One of the funniest things in a RPG is to build up a character with great epic gear. When a RPG gets an expansion the most natural thing is that you start up with the gear you collected and even paid for earlier. For me: to lose the Warden Commander set is very sad.

I hope anyone from Bioware can give a good reason for this. For now it sounds like lazyness. I hope you wont destroy the fantastic Origins-game with rushed expansions.

Also disaponted that the romance is gone. Was a very important part of Origins. However - if the romance still lives in the background then it is not so terrible. Really hope it will be possible to import alle gear though. All fans should push Bioware here.

LOL "I hope anyone from Bioware can give a good reason for this. For now it sounds like lazyness. I hope you wont destroy the fantastic Origins-game by some way to fast made expansions." Have you been on these forums long? Getting answers around her is often like expecting to win the lotto. Although sometimes Dave shows up and you've got a winning ticket.

Haha I know=9 But I think they are here and read some of the threads. It looks like that when the at rare times write and comment something. If we all make it clear that losing all this fantastic gear is terrible disapointing and unlogic in a RPG, then maybe something will be done.

Bioware have listened to the fans ealier. Like when they (thank god) decided to drop Securom/DRM from the game. (I am sure they sold a lot more games because of this. It is well known that a lot boicott games with Securom/DRM. Who wants to pay for a game that probably don't work, and if it do, only 5 times? But now I am getting OT).

You know, I don't want to say I told you so, but I did tell you all that there was going to be a sort of "cannon" ending to this whether or not BIOWARE would admit to it or not. And it seems as though I was right. Regardless if you bring over your character, dead or alive, he magically survived. Guess that funeral at the end if you made the sacrifice was a dream or something eh? HA!

mmmmm home goal comes to mind.

I loved the DLC but I am also aware that many people purchased them for the gear. I was a little disapointed that wardens keep could not be used as a base other than the merchants and storage chest but the armour was my human characters prefered look. okey so you can port characters but not items, this si very strange as we are talking expansion not sequal and so surely the same game..example RTO and SP allowed the player to use items from WK soI find this confusing.

Mostly though it will anoy a small % of players but mostly it seems to send negative messages about DLC content. Bioware mistake, EA dollar grabbing who knows.
