I started a NG+ with my level 50 Sentinel and wanted to get the achievement for Insanity. During the character creation process it doesn't allow me to change the difficulty.. So if I change it the very first time I am able to go to options menu (after all the cutscenes and dialogue), will that count as "changing the difficulty" and not be able to get the Insanity achievement?
I played about an hour earlier and got to the first landing on Citadel and realized it was still on Hardcore! If I change it now, will that prevent me from getting the achievement for Insanity also?

Yes, it's too late. What I've heard is that you can change it before setting down on eden prime. But any later and it's no good. It only takes about 20 minutes to get to the Citadel though, so you're not set back too much. But it's always good to save as soon as the game starts just in case.

Thanks I'll start over and try it!
I set the difficulty to Insanity before my NG+ but when I looked just now at the Citadel, it was back to Hardcore. But yeah I'll definitely just start over for Insanity since I haven't invested too much time in it yet.

Actually you must change the setting to insanity BEFORE you leave Eden prime :]

Whatever the difficulty setting is when you activate the beacon on Eden Prime is what it must remain on. Just double check it before you activate the beacon and then don't touch it!
