Well.. It seems like they found the way to displease most of the users (and I said MOST, not ALL.. don't attack me now...) with this xpac...
My only hope now, is that they would read what people are writing eveyday in this forum and that they will take this into consideration when they will have to make decisions for future games and expanions.
I'm not saying this game will not be good because we haven't played it, yet.. But I can say for sure that, however this game will be, it will not be what many of us wanted or hoped, and this is the truth...
The game probably will be very good; every time I watch the 1st Awakening trailer I get very excited. I cannot mention enough how fantastic the voice-acting is in this game. HOWEVER, knowing that the best elements of the game will not be an option is just too disappointing. Could they not have just included something really phenomenal such as: showing your Royal Wedding to Alistair/Anora (if you went that route) in the beginning of the game, with a bit of romance before you run off to do your duty? My epilogue ended with us having a lavish wedding 6 months later, Alistair showing everyone in Ferelden how much he loved his new bride ...blah..blah. Throw us a bone here, let us relish in our story a bit before sending us off to 'do our duty'. It really would have been nice to be able to have the 'kiss/sleep with' option with Ali at a few points during the game, instead of non-at-all. Very disappointing.

I did not buy the origins game immediately either, I waited until feedback reached a crescendo and then went out and got it

In my opinion, they should have done it like Baldur's Gate: Tales of the Sword Coast, and added a ton of stuff into the middle of the game, while your main character is still alive.
When I heard they were already working on an expansion so soon, I was thrilled, because I figured it meant they were adding in more origin stories, like a human commoner, or a surface dwarf, or an apostate mage for example, and new landsmeet preparation quests along the lines of A Paragon on her kind, The Urn of Sacred Ashes/The Arl of Redcliff, Nature of the Beast, and The Broken Circle.
I was hoping to add to the party chemistry by seeing new characters interact with the old ones. I loved listening to Leliana and Morrigan argue about the existance of the Maker, or Zevran flirt with Wynne, and wanted to explore new combinations. Seeing the new characters introduced so far I think it'd be great to see how well Anders & Morrigan would get along, or not.
Instead, not only are we getting a whole new story, which appears as though it really should be a part of Dragon Age 2, but we're getting features and purchased content taken away from us. BioWare seems to think that this is a whole new game, but it's not, it's an expansion upon an existing game. A game where we purchased with real money content that will no longer be available, where a very large amount of everything we worked for is now trivialized by the fact that it won't carry over into it's own expansion.
That said I'm sure the expansion will be a good one... it's just going in a direction I wished it wouldn't, and it does diminish the significance of a great number of the nuances the player worked for.

I can JUST ABOUT understand that Alistair might not come with you in that cirumstance, especially if you're going away for just a short while, as he might remain in Ferelden to continue your work in rebuilding the Wardens. A "see you in a few months, mate, I'll try not to burn the fortress down" would suffice there.
But Leliana said she'd see the world with me and stay by my side. She stuck with me through some of the most dangerous situations a person can face, and yet suddenly now has wandered off and left me to travel to this dangerous new place alone? Surely she'd LOVE seeing new places with me - it's what she loves doing, after all.
Just seems a bit of a cop-out, to me. I'd just create a new character instead, but that's gimped to hell.

No romances
Hardly any plot points carrying over
No dlc
Etc.
Most of the things that made Origins great are gone. Not to mention that it is supposed to only have around 15 hours of gameplay. Yet, despite all these things, they STILL expect us to pay 40$ for it.
It's just sad. I was looking forward to this expansion, but now I doubt I'll even buy it.
It's almost as if they got lazy and took shortcuts. They aren't adding romances because it takes time and money to add the extra scenes. And then, they use "the warden has to save the world!" as an excuse. Pathetic. That didn't seem to make a difference in Origins. The warden had to save the world then as well, yet you could still have romances.
The lack of plot points carrying over also seems to show that Bioware was being lazy with this as well. This takes away the fun of the choice aspect in this game.
I understand that not everyone has the dlc on their games, but it is unfair that those who did spend the money to buy it don't get to make use of it(Mind you, I didn't buy any DLC either and still think those who did should get rewarded.)
This is just too bad. This expansion has only ended up being a major disappointment for me.

Here's my problem with this expansion... The problem is the whole idea of making a mini-sequel to the game and expanding AFTER your main character has likely sacrificed themselves. What would make them think that it's a good idea to expand on the game after your character is dead?

Excellent points.
The fact that an expansion that REQUIRES the original game and is therefore catering to fans of the original game throws out so much of that game gives me little hope that the sequel, which will be made to draw in wider audience, will have our favourite characters as companions again.

Now this expansion pack is dealing with the origins of the darkspawn, and hopefully the chantry is wrong and it's more along the lines of what was going on with that Brood Mother creature. I'm all for exploring that story line, I think it'll be great. I just think it should take place several years later and in a fully fleshed out sequel, not just a tacked on expansion.
The expansion for a game like this really should be something to make the original game even more epic, not tell a whole new story. I mean, that's just my opinion. But this has been marketed as the spiritual successor to Baldur's Gate, and in every single way up to the point where they announced what this expansion was about, it has been. But this? I'm just disappointed.
Not to mention that now, finding out what this expansion is doing, or rather more specifically NOT doing, I'm questioning whether or not I just threw my money away buying the current DLC.

It will to a certain extent I'm sure. based off the, er, epilogue (I think that's the word I'm looking for) you got at the end of the game. But let's face it, if you sacrificed yourself at the end of the game, what are they going to do? Bring you back to life and say "Hey wait! We've got more adventures for you!"

it does, but not when you are a dead warden or it seems like not... but it is vague... It might have a KOTOR2 beginning where you select what happened

Why not? That's what they did with characters from Baldur's Gate who reappeared in Baldur's Gate II even if they were dead by the end of the first game. Although apparently the ability to raise the dead is far more common in the Forgotten Realms than it is in the Dragon Age world.

Actually it says in the FAQ that your choices from DA:O will carry-over to DA:A ME2-style. Some more, some less prominent. It'll also make a difference what kind of save you import (you don't have to import a end-game save, you can take one right from the middle of the game).Vuokseniska wrote...

What irks some of the fans here is the fact that BW decided to not recognize the "ultimate sacrifice" ending from DA:A: If you import a endgame save where your PC made the US the game will simply ignore it.
Imo that's not *that* bad -afterall the alternative would've been that you simply can't import your US save from DA:O.
What *really* irks me personally is the fact that there will be no appearnce, however small, of Lelianna and Morrigan *at all*...we won't even get cameos ME2 style. They are simply not there in the expansion.

I don't know, Like said earlier I'm sure the expansion actually will be fun. I'm simply (badly) disappointed that they're not doing their expansion the way Baldur's Gate did it. I had gotten my hopes up for new origin stories, new landsmeet preparation quests, new cities and dungeons and new characters to include with all the old ones.

Well, their most common reply to anything is "As long as people buy..." And that's what the majority do. I will not join their forces regarding Awakening.Dennis Carpenter wrote...
I pretty much give up any hope developers will be looking at anything we have to say with any interest whatsoever. If anyone remembers alot of suggestions were asked for and given very few of which seem to have been accepted. At this point i am putting my faith in the community much as I did with NWN. The community content out shined anything obsidian put out for us and i expect the same will happen with DAO. I have already seen a number of mods that are extremely well done and look forward to there completion. More likely as not i will be going there for my storyline immersion and eventually stop buying company made product altogether until the next great overhaul. Thats pretty sad............ Hey developers has anyone told you YOUR JOB IS ON THE LINE..........
And in reply to someone questioning the word 'Expansion' on page one or two. I know what you mean. Expansion to me is taking what you have and make a continuation based on the material you have. Reading about Awakening makes me feel as if one tiny part of the story is integrated into something completely new. That is not an expansion to me.
