Well, NWN2 is Obsidian, not Bioware, but I do love Gann. He looks like a blue Trent Reznor. And that's a good thing. The characters in MotB were great, and I really liked Gann's romance. And, honestly, his mother in the Skein was creeper than Hespith. "Where have you gone, my son, my son? Gone to rot in the sun, the sun? Please come back, my son, my son. Kill them all, one by one by one!" And then when she sings about bits of Gann's father stuck between her teeth. Yeah.

Anyway, the point is, there's no reason for an expansion not to have romances, even if the fate of the world is at stake.

It's ok.  There will always be romance options here *points at the ol' noggin* :crying:

As usual another disappointment much like NWN expansions. No continuing romances or DLC but then again its not surprising. I might still buy it which is a huge change from a few weeks ago when I was sure I would buy it..........The Reason ? you ask. Well its more like another DAO game then a continuation. The only continuing story interaction seems to be with Wynne Alistair Loghain and Ohgren..............None of which I was particularly fond of to begin with or really cared if they were brought forward into the expansion. After all doesnt make much sense for the king and queen to be out here together if thats how your story ended up as one example anyway. As far as party approval, well who really cares if there is no romance options to pursue. Really now do you care whether or not wynne or alistair approve of anything you do? Bummer to have it turn into more of the same stuff we keep getting. Hope there will be something that comes out on the home page to change my interest but it definitely is dropping quickly.

I can't speak for the DLC, but losing romances and allies when going to an expansion isn't exactly anything new for games. Are these losses really that shocking?

If you've played the BG series, you will have felt shocked since in the past you could continue being with your companions and the romances evolved (ex : elf female was pregnant then gave birth in expansions, there is an evolution, see?)

Well, OP, there's an easy solution to that problem, if you have the PC version.

Download a mod. :P There's plenty of them that, at the very least, add Cailan's armor to your inventory.

Just becaues it isn't new doesn't mean that it isn't lame.  I mean at least in Persona 3 they had the decency to kill of the main character and force you to play someone else in the expansion.  Even though that expansion still sucked as well...

The last Bioware game with this much content added was Neverwinter Nights, and for the most part it was pretty light on storythreads, but the made a couple of weird decisions by the second expansion pack, I personally just hoped they had learned from their decision.  But alas it seems like expansions are treated as second rate tools.  Easy level packs made in engine.  Again I should be holding my judgement but it just seems that we are getting something far less substancial than Shivering Isles, Opposing Force, Lost and the Damned, Ballad of Gay Tony and Shadows of Undretide.

I pretty much give up any hope developers will be looking at anything we have to say with any interest whatsoever. If anyone remembers alot of suggestions were asked for and given very few of which seem to have been accepted. At this point i am putting my faith in the community much as I did with NWN. The community content out shined anything obsidian put out for us and i expect the same will happen with DAO. I have already seen a number of mods that are extremely well done and look forward to there completion. More likely as not i will be going there for my storyline immersion and eventually stop buying company made product altogether until the next great overhaul. Thats pretty sad............ Hey developers has anyone told you YOUR JOB IS ON THE LINE..........

The romances aren't even recognised? I thought they said that it would be recognised in the expansion, there just wouldn't be any new one's that's all. While the PC is off saving the country again, your love will have other business else where. It would've been nice to get the DLC items over though, but i'm not too fussed tbh as long as my romance with Lel is recognised i'm happy :D

Quote by David Gaider in the Awakening FAQ thread:

Just regarding those asking about the romances, by "not continue" it just means you don't have a chance to actively continue the relationship during the course of this adventure. It does not mean that you mysteriously broke up or that the romance is not recognized to exist. I would have liked to have cameos by everyone, but that simply wasn't possible. As it is, you may find some treats awaiting you -- recognizing past decisions can be done in small ways, as well as large (and this applies to things outside of romances, as well).

According to Gaider, the romances are recognized, but you can't actively continue them during the events of Awakenings:

There are two things to remember here Dennis. One, Gaider and his crew are telling THEIR story the way they want it to be told. If this particular chapter doesn't include Alistair/Morrigan/Leliana/Zev than so be it, that is the way it is. So long as it's explained and is reasonable then fine, if they feel a romance would counteract the point of the story then it is for the best. There may be a damn good explanation as to why they aren't there, so lets see what it is before making those type of statements.

The second thing is resources. There is only so much they can tell and so much they can cram in an expansion and things have to be picked carefully otherwise you risk running into some serious problems. If continuing the romance would have forced them to remove a chunk of the main plot, is that really the best choice? Personally I think not.

Some of you guys are getting a little harsh on them for not having or continuing any romances. I think it's fairly obvious now that the Warden's story may continue quite a bit longer then any of us originally thought, perhaps they are waiting for a full game and a large amount of resources before continuing on with aspects of the story such as love which, while important to have, are secondary to the overall goal.

Yep, starting to believe that mystery title coming next March is indeed DA:O2 and will conclude the Warden's story.

It makes sense, I dont believe bioware will just ignore everything - selling Oranges without restocking the store supplies. Image IPB

Though I can really understand the worries especially if you experienced/enjoyed the Nwn OC *to* Shadows expansion transition/lack-of-transition, that was not a shining success.

For multiplayer, sure. But not for continued singleplayer storytelling.

I'm not particularly disappointed that the romances don't carry over to new DLC, prior to ME 2 I can't think of a recent BioWare game where that sort of thing was incorporated into an expansion. I am very disappointed that there are no new romances. I don't read romance novels but I like to have a romantic subplot in the books I read and I tend to think of BioWare games as interactive stories. Besides, speaking for the NWN games, the romances in the expansions were often better than the romance options in the main campaign. Well written romances are also something that set BioWare apart from other games developers.

I'll still buy it, which may be all that really matters, but my enthusiasm has waned considerably. It makes a stronger argument for stopping buying DLC/expansions and just waiting for the GOTY edition that will inevitably be released. It's not like I don't have a bunch of other games to keep me occupied until then. And as far as the expansion goes I suppose one virtue of it being released on retails disks is that I can rent it for less than $10.

I was worried about the Awakening yesterday after reading the faq, but then I thought "they gave us the Origins, and it was good" so I decided to trust the dev team a bit more. I think people get so bend over about this is because we've all had disappointments in some other games we've played. I know I have, and that is why DA was such a positive surprise. And now after reading David Gaider's words, I'm relieved, and waiting for the expansion eagerly again.

I'd say they'd need to inform their PR people better though, not to publish faqs that make the customers to interpret what they write on the website in so many ways. ;)

That makes me feel so much better!!! So does that mean if you had your PC become Queen consort to Alistair you'll be recognized as such?? The epilogue does say Alistair marries the PC.

That pretty much sums up how I feel; VERY DISAPPOINTED.

I would have to say that I'm in the same boat; I had started a whole new character in mind just to get him geared up in the best gear (DLC), just for the expansion. Now I lost the motivation to finish it.

Shale is DLC isn't she? So NO she won't be in Awakening!

i donno how you guys play a game but do you read the endings? The characters you had in your team continue with their own lives. so basically what is the fuss about now having all the characters playable in the expansion? Besides, the romance isn't ignored just not continued. What do you expect to do in your romance next except having more sex and kissing? grow a family? Celebrate valentines day? Go together to disney? Buy sims 3

The whole items set is also so silly. The starfang is untiered. so kinda OP, Other DLC armor weapons might be useful in the first hour of the game and then there is prolly better armor in the game. Besides it isn't like it isn't playable with the other armor set in the origins game and you prolly start off with pritty good armor in the beginning as you are lvl15 ish

They could have just made and expansion and said: no character stats carry over. Then atleast we didn't hear the crying about some DLC not being in the expansion

Add me to the list of disappointed people, yet I still hope Bioware is holding back some mind-blowing marvelous stuff to justify all the shortcuts. So I am waiting for the next trailers, lets see what happens, but to be honest I havent seen anything to back up my hopes yet. Maybe that will change.

I thought an expansion takes the old content of a game taking it to a new level with new awesome content. Yet all I see is standart DAO gameplay with many important things removed, with only very minor new content, strange story continuation and all that high priced like a new game - thats it about it.

But lets wait for further trailers and a review.

I dont know what the problem was, maybe it was rushed, maybe its was budget, maybe it was lack of motivations. In my opinion Bioware should have made a bigger expansion with more content and less shortcuts. I wouldnt care if I would have to wait another 4 months, or pay 60 bucks as long as the content is worth the money.
