I think you need to back off and realize people speaking out of frustration and anger is not the same thing as them speaking out of stupidity; and trust me, I have zero tolerance for stupidity myself, so I don't make excuses for it.

Wait a minute...let's think this through.  It's OK, according to
you, to post rants on this forum out of frustration, regardless if they
are petty or valid.  BUT, you can't respond to these rants with
rational explanations or exasperated disbelief that someone would be so
obtuse?  That strikes as hypocrisy.

Many times on the internet, especially on game forums, I see all kinds of irrational ranting.  Granted, it is probably since a good portion of the people posting could be young.  But, that doesn't automatically mean people can't respond to blind rage.

Don't get me wrong, if someone has a legit grudge, so be it.  But, be prepared to defend your position as not everyone will agree.  Also, one should always be prepared to see things from different angles.  All too often people post and refuse to hold a discussion.  I can be guilty of this as well.

Don't worry... I am sooo anxious to find Morrigan in my game. I know darn well she's in luv w/my character, & don't know how to deal w/her emotions. I want to confront that & find out what came of my kid is it normal, good, evil, a mutant?!?! (My guy is head over heals for her! lol ) There are sooo many ways the story line could go with the decisions my Character made w/ Morrigan it is unreal!

I, myself, don't care for Morrigan. I never did trust her from my first playthrough to the present - though, I will not lie, watching her do the deed with my man Alistair when I accepted her ritual the first time made me a little sick to my stomach and has since made me dislike her more - but I was surprised at how nice and almost vulnerable she was with my guy when he romanced her. It was a little surprising. Though, it gets overshadowed by that scene with Alistair for me. Blech!

Can I just say how much I DESPISE that turn of events? That the only way for you and Alistair to survive so you can be together in the end is to have him sleep with another woman and give her a child, which your girl can't have with him? It REALLY bothered me. That was one part of the Dragon Age storyline that infuriated me beyond anything I thought possible, real life or no.

The only part, in fact. And sorry for the triple post here.

I actually had to skip through that scene... I was so mad.  I just know Morrigan is gonna raise that kid to (evilly) take my throne! I hope they put her in later, though, I need to see where that goes. I will take that child and Alistair and I will raise it as our own to be nice (with the soul of the archdemon.... we'll see) Anyway, I have no idea how they are gonna do that, and I am sad we can't see any of that story in this expansion.

Hmmm......pay 40$ for 15 hours of game time? Heh....who are you trying to con Bioware. I'll wait till it's in the bargain bin. Thank you very much

I always found it interesting how people justified money for time, especially when it comes to gaming.  For instance, I took my wife out to dinner the other night and we spent roughly $50 with tip.  All in all we were out ofr about 1 1/2 hours.  I would say it was well worth it for a few hours.  A two hour movie with popcorn cost us close to $25 (at matinee prices).  You will spend $70+ to go to a sporting event for 3 hours.  Heck, if you go to the bar, you can buy a beer for $5 and not think twice about it.  BUT, some people around here will cry bloody murder if a $5 DLC takes only an hour to complete.

$40 for 15 hours of fun gameplay is a pretty damn good deal when you look at it's relative entertainment value compared to other entertainment diversions....

AMEN!! I just said something on a thread called "why so expensive" about 10 minutes ago very similar to what you said. A single DVD costs around $20 here & your lucky to get 90 minutes of movie & typically most of them suck.
If I spend $40. at the bar,on my whisky sure I'm drunk & happy .... until the pounding hangover sets in along w/ the cotton mouth. $40 won't even buy me a carton of smokes or fill up my tank for a joy ride... So... I'd much wrather spend $40 on a kick ass entertaining, challenging, game that gives me ,many hours of safe addicting fun that I can try over w/ diff. characters & different endings,....than to waste $40.  on the other stuff I mentioned.
It is like ppl want something for nothing. If that is the case, don't expect quality, lengthly games in the future. BioWare/EA need $ to produce quality games ya know? Image IPB

Actually, HotU introduced romances to the NWN franchise, as neither the OC nor SoZ had one. So there was nothing to carry over in the first place. And I remember my PC being very busy during HotU too, even more so during ToB, which did carry over and conclude the romances in a great way. Nice try, though...

well you could romance the cleric girl in the original campaign if you did her mini quest...but is was not a true romance.  Hordes of the underdark provided several romance options so I am not really  why he used that as an example - so yes you are correct.  What is scary is that awakeinngs sounds to be like shadows of undrentide - which had zero character development, the new characters were boring and there was no romance.

I'm adopting the wait and see attitude as well. lack of romances is not necessarily damning, though somewhat disappointing, if you are playing a new Warden with no previous ties. The DLC issue is not as big a one for me, because I almost always play rogues and mages, and little of the DLC gear really applies, goes to other party members.

I just hope all the new characters and the storyline is interesting enough to make up for the losses. And that reasonable aknowledgement of your DA:O story is present.

I'm not particularly disappointed that the romances don't carry over to new DLC, prior to ME 2 I can't think of a recent BioWare game where that sort of thing was incorporated into an expansion. I am very disappointed that there are no new romances. I don't read romance novels but I like to have a romantic subplot in the books I read and I tend to think of BioWare games as interactive stories. Besides, speaking for the NWN games, the romances in the expansions were often better than the romance options in the main campaign. Well written romances are also something that set BioWare apart from other games developers.

I'll still buy it, which may be all that really matters, but my enthusiasm has waned considerably. It makes a stronger argument for stopping buying DLC/expansions and just waiting for the GOTY edition that will inevitably be released. It's not like I don't have a bunch of other games to keep me occupied until then. And as far as the expansion goes I suppose one virtue of it being released on retails disks is that I can rent it for less than $10.

I'm right with you on this one. I will just rent the next Bioware game that come out and I won't buy it until the GOTY addition drops.
I am about to burn my Bioware fanboy card. I have been a fan since NWN 1 and for a while I thought they could do no wrong. IMO every game was a must have for my collection.
I hope Rockstar and Bethseda don't start doing this sort of thing.

Thats dumb. The whole reason I bought RTO was for Duncans dagger and Caliens armor/sword.

when RTO becomes available I will not buy it because of this.

Miss my dog and Alistair already!

I assume that plot line could be a HUGE part of Dragon Age II. If it's a really big plot point of any Dragon Age, it would be smart not to include it in the expansion. The last thing you want Bioware to do is to go half-ass on a major story line just so we can get it quickly.

With that said, we could get teasers. (perhaps in the form of NPC chatter?)

Question: What makes people think the wardens story will continue in dragon age 2? As far im aware there has been almost no information on it? There is no planned story arch like ME, and the warden is compared to commander Shepard relatively disposable character (tons of grey wardens walkin about). As far as ive seen the only evidence pointing towards a character continuation is bioware have said the are "considering" a game import feature even if that is the case it may be just a case of impacting the world like kotor did in kotor2.

Also considering the expansions are continuing the wardens story DA2 would have to take all of those decisions into account as well i find it unlikely unless they end up having canon ending for the expansions or simply retcon them.

Plus if DA2 is set at the next blight then it could be several hundred years after origins, it seems like people are pilling a lot of expectation on DA2 because they didnt get what they wanted in Awakenings.

There's a partial solution to the lost DLC items for PC users, at least. All the items can just be added to your inventory again with a mod. It should only work for those who have purchased the DLC, because the Warden Commander Armor at least uses a unique texture. I don't know how that kind of thing works here, but I would imagine that the texture would show up as missing for anyone who doesn't have the DLC. For the other items, they can be replicated in the Toolkit and automatically added to the player's inventory.

It is disappointing, though, that there will be no romances. Because the player's too busy saving the world? In NWN: Hordes of the Underdark, the player saves Toril from being a tenth layer of Baator and defeats a duke of hell, and there's three romancable characters. Valen was the first character I romanced in any game, and I had a lot of fun with him. He really made the game for me. There's no reason expansions can't have romances.

This is how I feel also...  I HATE that there are no romance possibilities in this expansion.  I mean... the XP the story.. the loot... that is enough to get the rat to try and chase the cheese through the maze....but then you take away the very best of the cheese and... well... I kinda lost my steam.  I am just over halfway through and I really don't think I want to continue.  It's too bad.  The first game was so much fun and I could not stop playing.  This one.. not so much.

I HATE that I cannot interact with my party more.  I LIKED asking the mundane questions.  I LIKED weaving those closer relationships.  I HATE how I don't even get to know what happened to Zevron or Lillianna.. or even my dog!  My characher ended up with Zevron at the end of the last story and I get a really weird feeling every time I get attacked by an assassain... I kinda feel like asking if anyone has seen him.

In short... I wasted my money on this one.  I should have waited for more reviews I think.

This is the first game I never put down. The missing romances and interactions will keep me from continuing this game at all. Lets see that will be 4 in my family not playing. I honestly started playing xbox just because of the game. SERIOUSLY this is an utter let down and not what I paid for!

I almost wish I had come to the forums before I bought this expansion. I replayed through DAO trying to be as complete as possible with quests, relationships side stories. I finally finished last night and went right to awakenings. I feel like that last 2 weeks has been a complete and utter waste as well as the 40 bucks I spent on this DLC they call a expansion. Great job in rushing this POS out the door.

The lack of romances makes me need to believe they will be completed in a later expansion (if indeed DA2 isn't a direct sequel).

By the time DA2 gets released we will no longer remember or care about romances that happened 2 years ago. Seriously, my PCs marriage to Alistair is now no longer being recognized in the Awakening expansion set only about 6 months after Origins. Which Einstein over at Bioware came up with that awesome storyline continuation?

i'll remember and care , i think they are a huge part of what makes bioware RPG's better than everyone else's . I expect them to continue if im using the same character , or at least mention them .

well i dont think its unreasonable to think the grey warden would have an adventure without their lover. i understand a lot of peoples disappointment in the fact that they seem to be glossed over though. but bioware is aware that we love our romances. i dont think they will completely ignore that in every add on. im not really worried about romancing the new characters though since in my mind my characters still on a tragic romantic search for morrigan. still got the ring and everything lol.

I too feel sort of frustrated about the lack of socializing with other characters in my party group. I don't mind them removing the romance but at have the ability to talk with npc's. I feel like this expansion was two steps forward and three steps backwards and sort of rushed. But most of that can be blamed on EA for setting early dates to finish and have Bioware shell it out before fixing original Dragon Origins of bugs and glitches.. Not only that, but I wanted a couple of the original NPC's back in my group; such as Alistair, Wynne, Leliana, or Zevren. Who wants Oghren, seriously, never had him in my group  before and he talks about farting too much... I rather have  Loghain in my group then Oghren...

I don't think Bioware will continue the story in DA2. I believe they will start out with something new , since knowing how EA works and trying to turn everything inside out and upside down. Well enough of my ranting back, to starting from scratch on Dragon Origin's, I just beat the expansion I kinda felt like... wth...
