The interview I heard this from can be read here:
http://uk.pc.ign.com.../1058656p1.html

I am not at all disappointed with what I have heard of the new expansion. I have played DA so much, and have just finished reading David Gaider's two fiction books and it just shows how deep the story goes and how things flow in his stories. Things always seem to link in well, and I am looking forward to seeing this in Awakenings to. I do however really really hope that there are some new romances for the Commander :)

Guys it's just an expansion! And it HAS to tie up to the game, but be a little bit ripped. Not all of the ones who bought DA:O will buy DA:A. So in DA 2 it will be harder to implement who played the expansion and had Anders as a lover, or who played DA:O and had Alistair as a lover. The expansion has to be only an expansion of the first game, not a full new game.

i am a bit disappointed cause it almost like a seperate game. Ok there are new traits, Skills and so on...but none you can use in the normal campaign. There are new Chars...but none you can see in the normal Campaign. There are no new Origins (for Humans as an example), and the new Weapons are only available in the Addon and not in the normal campaign...thats no expansion thats a total seperate Game. i liked Expansions like Diablo 2 where several Features changed the whole Game and not only the Expansion Part.

One point I like about the DLC decision is that it proves all those people wrong who keep saying that they took out content that should have been in the game.

Of course there is no new origins for the people... Its an expansion it is expanding on your old origin they are not going to make a whole new origin for an expansion... If they did that they should just call it Dragon age Origins 2. Its not a new game because you are still playing the same game with pretty much the same character unless you want to make a new one.

Thanks for saving me some cash, BioWare. I've canceled my pre-order of the XP and will wait until it comes down in price before purchasing it. Even then, I will mainly purchase it so that I'll be able to make use of the things the community produces. NWN was about the weakest BioWare game, plot-wise, but was ultimately well-worth the money because the modding community produced mods that were far, far superior to what BioWare offered the player in the original game.

The idea that DLC can't be used in the expansion is ludicrous, in my opinion. Players paid extra for that content and should be able to use it in the XP. I'm appalled that it's unusable and feel that's pretty much a glaring sign that the DLC is nothing more than a marketing ploy to try to help pad their bottom line.

As for the story, I understand that the devs have authored it and want to tell the story they've created. However, games are not the same as novels. A novel is a self-contained story, so the author creates the characters and the world and lets the plot evolve as s/he sees fit. With an RPG, the player also has a part in the unfolding of the story. We create the characters, we decided what they will look like, how they will act, etc. This, in my opinion, means we should have a say in the story as well. I think that this needs to be recognized because, if not, players will ultimately drift away and find games that are more tailored to their wants.

How do I know this? I'm a textbook example. I've long been a vocal BioWare fan, have bought every product they've released (with the exception of Jade Empire), and pre-ordered both DA:O and ME2 the moment I was able to do so. I trusted they would be good products, so I was willing to shell out the cash immediately. I might also point out that our household had to purchase TWO copies of each of these games so that my husband and I could both play on our own PCs. I have now decided to wait before purchasing another of their products, because I no longer implicitly trust that I will be getting my money's worth. This is not a good sign.

As I said, the DLC thing is urking, but its quite possible something they will fix after launch, another thing to consider is you probably wouldn't hold on to those items for very long anyway. Enjoy the new stuff, hence the point of the expansion.

I wasn't mocking, but I do think its silly, and I think you'll agree if you consider what I've said, that throwing a game down you've obviously enjoyed very much for these issues, when its already been mentioned by a Bioware employee that there are big future plans for DLC/expansions still to come.

And these new allies could potentially be romanceable in future content. I say be optimistic and patient. No ones more eager to hear from Morrigan than I and shes not even mentioned in this expansion.

Damn...I feel so jipped...
I made a Paladin character JUST FOR the Cailen armor, now I'm told there is no point in putting him in the "expansion". The armor pretty much made the character visually- and he was my favorite one too...Now I'm so let down. How hard is it to let use take the DLC into the expansion? Is it really worth the sale drops?

Yeah ..was thinking...

Now what was the point of going through that DLC...getting revenge for Cailan's death..giving him an honourable burial?     Supposedly that was part of the continuing story?

I mean EVEN IF ..once Awakening happens,  we could maybe display Cailan's armor in an honorary way inside Vigil's Keep....wouldn't that at least keep the story going, and be appropriate?

Why aren't we even allowed this bit?   I don't get it.

I can't speak for the DLC, but losing romances and allies when going to an expansion isn't exactly anything new for games. Are these losses really that shocking?

150 years ago smoking whist amputating a wounded was nothing new, we didn't keep doing it.

It is the 21st century, so yes they are, espcially when the only ally you retain is a bit of a thrush..
That being said the in game jugernaught armour and the sumer sword are defenitly on the par with DLC arms&armours.

The romances aren't even recognised? I thought they said that it would be recognised in the expansion, there just wouldn't be any new one's that's all. While the PC is off saving the country again, your love will have other business else where. It would've been nice to get the DLC items over though, but i'm not too fussed tbh as long as my romance with Lel is recognised i'm happy :D

Quote by David Gaider in the Awakening FAQ thread:

Just regarding those asking about the romances, by "not continue" it just means you don't have a chance to actively continue the relationship during the course of this adventure. It does not mean that you mysteriously broke up or that the romance is not recognized to exist. I would have liked to have cameos by everyone, but that simply wasn't possible. As it is, you may find some treats awaiting you -- recognizing past decisions can be done in small ways, as well as large (and this applies to things outside of romances, as well).

I am cautiously optimistic about David G.'s statement. I wonder if they are just trying to gain some grounding back because so many people have been upset to learn that the 'significant other' component will be nonexistent in Awakening. Well, just a few more weeks until everyone finds out for themselves.

That makes me feel so much better!!! So does that mean if you had your PC become Queen consort to Alistair you'll be recognized as such?? The epilogue does say Alistair marries the PC.

If I am able to at least see our 'lavish' wedding in Awakening, it is worth every penny paid for the game. It would be an even bigger 'treat' if my Queen PC becomes pregnant; that would really be exciting.

Am I the only one excited for this DLC?

Granted, I'm not too happy that my romance with Alistair will not be active - I'm sure I'll get over it.
The removal of the armor & such, there will probably be loads of unique new BETTER armor to equip.

I don't know. I understand why most people are upset, but I'm excited.

I'm fine with purchasing DLC like Return to Ostagar, but to not let us use our DLC in future expansions such as Awakening is just disappointing. I urge you Bioware to please reconsider your plan to not let our DLC items transfer over to Awakening.

I'm cancelling my pre-order for this expansion, due to DLC restriction.

i donno how you guys play a game but do you read the endings? The characters you had in your team continue with their own lives. so basically what is the fuss about now having all the characters playable in the expansion? Besides, the romance isn't ignored just not continued. What do you expect to do in your romance next except having more sex and kissing? grow a family? Celebrate valentines day? Go together to disney? Buy sims 3

No in my game ending Leliana stayed by my side and we continued to travel and have adventures.

My PC marries Alistair and becomes Queen (Princess-Consort); wedding occurs 6 months after Origins. That is the only element I am concerned with continuing in Awakening at the moment.

with the possible exception of Alastair, though one would assume if you married him, you would have to stay home in Ferelden to deal with ruling while he was away dealing with the Orlesian Grey Wardens etc.

I don't understand what your thoughts are on that? You gather that if your HNF PC gets married to Alistair and becomes Queen (Princess-Consort) she will remain in Ferelden and Alistair goes off in the Awakening expansion? But then how would I be able to play my current PC in the expansion? Would I just be sitting around the Castle while Ali was away fighting? :innocent:

Well, Alistair should be around in my ending, I married him and made him King. He appears to be in Awakening so I would expect my 'husband' to interact with me accordingly if I import my character.

Has it been stated he will not? Becoming Queen would be a major part of your original ending so I'd assume it would still be a factor. However, interacting with him throughout the entire expansion is not.

I am hoping that will be the case; it only makes sense. What would be ridiculous is if our interactions consist of him addressing me simply as Warden. Interacting with him throughout the entire expansion is not necessary but he would be sorely missed (he was my fav companion, not just as a romance option either) .
