I really don't know exactly what they mean when they say the romances won't continue. Does this mean that Alistair will ignore the fact that we were deeply in love when he sends me off to rebuild the Wardens? Or that he just won't be able to come along with me on the mission? I'm fine with the latter, but the former would annoy me.
I'm fine with the old allies not coming along, as it can be explained away... They are off doing other important things.
The equipment thing bothers me. Why is core campaign equipment being carried over, but not DLC stuff? If my character is wearing the Warden armor and wielding Duncan's sword and Cailan's shield, will she start Awakening naked? Will the game explain why she threw away such important items? I know that it will be rendered obsolete over the course of Awakening, but it annoys me.

I'm not exactly sure what people want from the expansion to be honest? I just want a new world to explore, new characters, new romances and expanding the overall story. Guess I'll be one of the few thats happy at this rate...psssh.

What you mean you can't romance the new party mebers?
She means : NO romances in Awakening, neither old one or new one. Because "There is no time for it". And it seems that i won't see Leliana anymore, for whom my char' made 60% of her choices, like making Alistair going with Morrigan...
(Seems you finally won't be one of the happy players

The 'there's no time for it' never seemed to be an impediment to romancing in previous games where we had save the country/world/galaxy etc or ourselves from a curse (this was admittedly in MotB from Obsidian not Bioware, but still an expansion similar to Awakening had two full romances in it, and where you were running against the clock to save yourself from a curse). Yes I hope the reason is given a better justification for no continuing romances or new ones that just that.

The lack of romances makes me need to believe they will be completed in a later expansion (if indeed DA2 isn't a direct sequel).
By the time DA2 gets released we will no longer remember or care about romances that happened 2 years ago. Seriously, my PCs marriage to Alistair is now no longer being recognized in the Awakening expansion set only about 6 months after Origins. Which Einstein over at Bioware came up with that awesome storyline continuation?
This!

I am disappointed, I have to admit. It is almost like they didn't even look at what aspects the players all enjoyed. From a technical RPG monsters, treasures, and leveling perspective, this game was solid. BUT, and this is a BIG but....the thing that really worked for this game was the story, the characters, the relationships you built with them, the TIME you put in to build those relationships, and so forth. To have many of them completely disappear is really shocking. I do NOT want this feeling like the played out Final Fantasy games where pretty much every character changes.
I like my own character, but I do like the aspects of the DLC items too! What did we pay for that DLC for? Just to take a quick look at it and never be able to use it again?
Having new characters in the story is important, but to eliminate many of the ones we knew really blows.
I can only hope that there are going to be many sequels and that some of the original characters are going to have chances to return at points. Otherwise, we're just playing the same old game....kill, treasure, level....not building relationships that can carry through many adventures.
I hope the game devs can read this.
The developers obviously believe that we should consider ourselves lucky to have the privilege to purchase and play games that they see fit to develop; It is blatant egocentrism. There have been countless complaints from players about the concept of the relationships and DLC content not being available in this expansion. I have read many posts stating that these relationships would indeed continue again in a sequel (DA2) but are temporarily 'on hold' in Awakening. If they could not carry over (at least a few) these romances in an early expansion, It is highly unlikely you will see them flourish again in a sequel being released possibly 2 years from now. Based on the smug responses from Bioware, it seems they are indifferent to what their market truly wants. It seems because DAO was so successful, they now believe they have a captive audience; gamers will now buy ANYTHING released related to the DA title. The only way you can get your point across is by NOT purchasing a game that does not meet your expectations and send emails directly to Bioware voicing your disappointment. Remember we are the consumer, we choose to purchase or not.

As for the dlc items, well, I'm pretty sure that they won't last more than 2 levels in expansion anyway, and that's because dragon age has a lot of gear/armor sets to choose (at least for warrior). I just hope that this time there will be more gear or armor sets for rogue and mage as well.

The DLC I don't mind so much. I mean, you'll probably find better stuff about half an hour into the main stroy anyway;
It has nothing to do with finding better stuff in the main story. You paid for the DLC, you should have the option whether you wish to use those items or not. If I could purchase Awakening without the need of having Origins installed, then it would make more sense than it does now. Its now a $40 investment that wipes out a $27 investment(for those that bought DLC) made upon the game.

How does it wipe out the "investment"? You used and will continue to have the opportunity to use the items whenever you play Origins. Installing Awakening does not delete your DLC, it does not wash away the products you purchased, which was added content purchased for Origins.

I don't mind no romances, as long as they don't treat us like idiots and say "you are too busy for that". That's just idiotic.
Agreed. Because like what was said earlier, we were "trying to save the country", yet had time to get your freak on with almost a dozen people. Seems a little out of place to not find time to do your thang. Obviously it can be explained if you were in a relationship with Lelianna, or Morrigan why it doesn't carry over, but if you're a female and in a relationship with Alistair, or a male with Anora, if all of a sudden it's "do I know you, don't touch me there", I'm certainly going to be a little peeved.
