Sounds interesting. Even if you pick sniper you still have the tempest for some fun CQC if you feel like it. Might try it out!

We've taken this thread off-topic enough already, but I'm pretty sure the Sniper Engineer's been well discussed in a few of the major Eng. threads from the past, so it shouldn't be that exotic a build. Also, the playstyle should've been most popular around the time that guy first discovered/shared how to do the reload trick on every gun and not just the Claymore.

Um guys i've finished the game and did not use cloak that much ( or at all ) i really dont get how its useful. i used assault and SMG most of the time too. my incineration was heavy and i was an agent . level 22. i feel so sad that i did not ever actually understand to utilize the infiltrator.

Cloak differs from things like Adrenaline Rush and Tech Armor in that it's not always wise to use it because it blocks your regen. Here's how I use it:
1. To get out of trouble. You're going to die and you know it. Pop Cloak and run to cover.
2. To run up next to someone and blast them with a shotgun or SMG. You deal more damage at close range and shotguns/melee will stagger them.
3. Just to relocate to a better position.
4. To get a clear sniper shot at something without getting hit in the process.
5. To get a damage boost. This is really the least important thing it does for you, but extra damage is obviously welcome.
Basically Cloak lets me move around the battlefield without interruptions. It lets me get close without getting hurt so I can immediately start my attack (and I generally prefer close range even as a sniper). When I play infiltrator, my most used skills are Assassination Cloak and Incineration Blast. I mix in Incinerates to get some regen going when I need that.
What's the best bonus skill? For a Widow sniper, I found Heavy Warp Ammo useful to make sure I could one-shot things without Cloak. For a shotgun infiltrator, I don't know. Pick one you find fun. You have everything you need already anyway. Stasis is always going to be useful so you could consider that. I am personally not a big fan of the shield powers. Huge cooldown when you can usually just Cloak and get behind cover if you're really in that much trouble.
I also don't think Husk killers like Slam are really necessary for an infiltrator. Incineration Blast is pretty much all you need against those.

^Cryo ammo is also the Infilrator's innate Husk-killer.
Neural Shock and Stasis are useful, especially close up. Flashbangs should work too for AR Infiltrators.

Neural shock is especially useful as a one-point wonder due to the midget cooldown. I always have it for the occasional krogan/elite that is too close for comfort.
Energy drain could work aswell, especially on geth levels.

My infiltrator uses Kestrel armor for everything except head and arms, which use Recon Hood, and Off-Hand Ammo Pack. Squad Disruptor Ammo, Assassination Cloak, Heavy Incinerate, 1 point in AI Hacking, Agent, and Improved Flashbang Grenade. Phalanx, Locust Widow, and any heavy weapon. The primary weapon is the Locust at stripping shields, Phalanx is used up close like a shotgun, and the Widow is basically my second heavy weapon against bosses.
