I'm not sure if this has been brought up before, I tried searching but didnt find anything, figured it would be a pretty big point of discussion, unless I'm not realizing something.

Anyways I'm saying this because of this article http://ps3.ign.com/a.../1067691p1.html not sure of the validty of it or if it even APPLIES to ME3/Bioware. Still, I think COOP in ME3 would be a huge advantage for the game, many of the "pirates" may buy it to simply play with their friends.

Coop could be added in a way similar to Saints Row 2, 2 Shepherds, but one can essentially be a "ghost" to the others campaign. I understand you would lose your save transfer bonuses, but thats what multiple playthroughs are for.

Another possibilty is being able to play squad mates, I'm not sure how they would handle interaction when onboard the normandy but perhaphs the "piggyback" player can be a generic crew member while onboard, or something of the sorts.

I realize the player joining in on a Sheperds campaign will be severely gimped, but it would still be a nice touch to an already amazing game. (Also if EA is forcing them to go online, may as well do coop and build upon their great storyline instead of wasting resources on competetive multiplayer for a company that clearly specializes in storyline based games.)

In the words of BioWare;

Mass Effect is a singleplayer game.

I'm well aware and support it being Single player forever, but if EA is making them go online, I would at least like to discuss the potential things Bioware could do to incorporate it without hurting the "main game".

Please dont insult my threads discussion if you are not going to fully read it.

NO!!!

No need to make ME any less of an rpg than it already is.

Adding coop would be like having army of 2 in space.

The only thing close to what you have that I would consider is that when you die in battle you switch to a surviving character and finish the fight and then switch back. It makes no sense that all of your companions can die except you. Just saying.

This isn't a suggestive idea if EA forces them to add some sort of online component.

what you are propsoing is an addition to the game only after if its been horribly mutilated by EA then? cause if they force ME into online multiplayer, i guarantee much of the fanbase wont care about coop or anything else they do to ruin the game, cause they'll no longer care for the series.

I think if there were to be coop or MMO for mass effect it would have to be a new part of the universe not part of the trilogy like KOTOR was all single player but the old republic is MMO that type of deal

This link seems to work fine for me, hopefully its fixed now. Anyways if that doesnt work just google "Ea Plans Online Play, DLC For All New Titles".

Anyways I'm still unsure if this applies to ME3 so this entire disucssion may not be necessary.

Basically, this reads that they want to increase revenue via online.

Either, DLC, MP, etc.

It can be good, or bad.

I like this DLC stuff, and I'm a dinosaur PC gamer.

My question is, (I have zero console knowledge anymore) how do you 'buy' on xbox live etc? is it those point things?

Like what I see contesting, is the mod community too. Already seen in small form with the hair/casual clothes for this game.

It's hard to say at this point.

I think it could be just for anti piracy perhaps?

Main thing, is if it's going to be DLC etc, then give the gamers what they want.

For ME2, that would be things like much more N7 armor parts, helmet toggles, etc.

It's very hard to say though at this point what it will entail.

Actiblizz is also releasing spec on the new Battle.net and it's got similar goals.

Seems all games will be online regardless of the game in some fashion. For a series like ME, I would expect that to be the Cerberus stuff and DLC's etc.

Just more money for them really.

all we need for Mass Effect 3 is single player with an amazing story, graphics that pushes the PC and 360 to there limits and the great features that make the Mass Effect franchise unique, no multiplayer thanks!

The second source simply sounds like combating piracy, and on that note I cannot fault EA at all.
They aren't using draconian DRM (anymore... wish ME1 could be 'fixed'), and have created an enticing alternative.

It's like when Apple made it so easy such to get music from them people started buying music again, somewhat.

I cannot fault them for this at all, if that's the goal.
I hate DRM, and their method is simply bonus perks for me being a legit customer.

That's totally cool in my books, if that's the intent.

Why do so many people insist on replying, without actually reading anything but the topics title?

Also I agree, the second one doesnt have much to do with an actual online component added to the game. Maybe IGN just worded EA's intentions wrong.

Bioware is one of the best run companies in the business. Even though EA "owns" Bioware, I don't think Bioware would be "bullied" into a decision they don't want in their game. I think EA pretty much lets Bioware do what it wants to. That being said co-op would make absolutely no sense in ME3. This is a personal story between the player and his/her Shepard.

I wouldn't want Coop in ME3, but maybe in a future ME title.

OK, I've been trying to stay out of the whole co-op/multiplayer thing, but....

Come on, its a single player RPG Shooter, why can't it be left at that? Why do so many people insist on co-op/multiplayer?

I'll say it again, its a single player game, adding co-op would not necessarily improve the game, it actually might make it worse since you have to spend time and resources on co-op and multiplayer, which could be going to, ohh I dont know... MAKE THE SINGLE PLAYER GAME BETTER?

Just about every other shooter type game has co-op, so why can't this one game be exactly what it already is? Sometimes you just have to stay true to what you are.

Please Evil Chris.. come lockthis one down before I have an anurism.

I really hope IGN is right and EA is requiring an online "play" for all their future titles, because then people like you who do not even bother to read the thread, can realize how ignorant you really are.

And for the record I do not even support coop in the Shepard trilogy, I was exploring the possibilities if IT WAS FORCED, by their PUBLISHER.

lets slap a sticker on it and call it gears of war too!

i like co-op games as much as the next guy, but it wouldnt be mass effect anymore if they did it.

maybe they can make a spin off as an MMORPG
