HIGH Plenty of the same great writing and character work BioWare
is known for.

LOW The collective lack of surprise at
Shepard's resurrection.

WTF Do people really want to have
sex with grotesque alien crewmates?

(It counts as an official game rank)

If those are their two main criticisms, it's not really a legitimate assessment of the game.

But I don't care. I already have and enjoy it.

I find the "Low" part stupid. For one, Liara brought Shepard back to life, so theres no reason for her to be surprised, Ashley or whatever you kept alive already knows because Anderson has been telling her/him. Anderson knows because the illusive man has been letting the news of Shepards revival get out.

Try to find games with higher metascore.

In my random searches of games I KNOW have high score, I only found Super Mario Galaxy, at 97. That's right, it takes MARIO, the most famous and iconic character in all of gaming, to top Mass Effect.

It's a lot more, but the review kinda pisses me off. >.>

It's almost like he slept when the characters were talking and said the characters had no depth.

Anything below a 9 is ridiculous in my opinion.

I never heard of Game Critics and based on what I've seen, it is for good reason.

Edit: Upon reading his review further... it's not so bad. I don't understand his score, but the review wasn't written terribly.

Some of us like Turian tail, i personally think they are sexy. Just because the reviewer doesn't have a kinky switch doesn't mean the game is bad, it means that reviewer is boring...

I think the general concensus is that ME2 is amazing. I saw interviews at IGN where their staff are practically worshipping it. I don't think it is better than the original, but it is still one of the greatest games ever made...

I really don't get the low one. There were a lot of people who were surprised with Shepard. You see it all the time in the game, you even get e-mails about it...

Not that I would argue against his opinion, the reduced stat manipulation is something that I disagree with. Overall the level up system has been modified in a way that makes sense. Did away with weapon levels, charm and intimidate are mandated by Renegade/Paragon (which makes sense), Spectre training isn't needed and the first aid skill is useless with the new system. So yeah, not something that annoyed me, I acually welcomed it for the most part. Besides the game was way more polished, that enough = win in my book.

Some of his concerns were legitimate (I disagreed with them, but I can see why he wasn't pleased) but some were just flat out idiotic. It wasn't the worst review I've ever seen (that goes to IGN giving Jade Empire a 9.9... it was good, but wtf?) but it was certainly close.

Some idiots have to try and intentionally go against the tide, even when it's in a situation that makes no sense, just in order to appear different and individual. ME2 is lauded by pretty much everyone so it was just a matter of time some numpty tried to make out it wasn't that great.

Nub.

I have issues with this game's plot development structure and I think it has too many characters that whittle away at the quality of the core plot/intensity of the narrative, so by no means am I a groundless ME2 fanboi without any criticism of the game at all. However, those aren't issues that would bring it down anywhere close to 7.5 and it'd be at least 9.0 for me. The guy is full ****.

Seriously, I may not agree with the score, but I agree with nearly everything in that review. I disagree on the statement concerning undeveloped characters. However, I was also disappointed by the omission of random planet exploration, an inventory, and the weapon and armor upgrades. The game was still great; not what i expected, not what I had hoped for.

this applies to so many people on the internet its scary. take for example this forum, all the tali and anti-tali threads. you wouldnt have one without the other.

you just cant stop fanboyism. the sad truth is that the "anti" fanboys dont even realize they are the same exact type of person as any other annoying fanboy.

black sheep/white sheep... at the end of the day you are still a sheep.

"against, for the sake of being against" is just as pathetic if not worse, than blind loyalty

I have 2 criticisms of mass effect, one being that there wasn't enough individual dialogue between the squadmates and myself, on the normandy. And 2 that all the loyalty missions were never intermingled with other squad mate's stories, i get its there own personal business, but it would have been interesting.

I don't agree with all your points here but I definitely agree it wasn't a perfect game - the core plot for me felt severely under-developed due to the strain of trying to develop and cater 10 characters.

Unfortunately not just on the net. Every time you see a goth chick dye her hair bright red or someone get a tattoo purely to be "different" rather than simply wanting it for the impressive art you come across this type of person.

a horrible summary for a mostly well-thougt out critique, really dont get how he settled on those low/high things, but that isnt the substance of it.

I'd probably give a little higher score. Probably an 8. The fact that it lost all emotional attachment from the first game really drives down my personal scoring of the game. If I had never played ME1 I would probably rate it much higher.

The final mission still remains one of the most epic experiences ever constructed in video-gaming however.

LOL, dont even get me started on this. "different for the sake of beng different"

LOL.... these people are "changing themselves" for the purpose of looking "different". yet at the end of the day, their lives and "fashion sense" is dictated by existing trends... just the same as any idiot who blindly follows trends themselves.

both types of people allow pop culture to define their lives for them. neither one thinks for themselves.

Man, times have changed in football games...

But anything over a 95 is like amazingly, jaw-droppingly good. (Or at least, amazingly, jaw-droppingly, well-reviewed....88 for Starcraft? STARCRAFT?)
