I agree with his assessment of the game. There is such a thing as being too democratic. Seriously why Bioware decided to scrap everything that people complained about and start fresh was a very bad move and they screwed some great things up that just needed tweeking from ME1.

There are only two types of every weapon? Weak. Devs said there were nineteen weapons in ME2 and I felt there was a larger selection in ME1.

Planet scanning? Weak. Though this was addicting and kind of fun for the first playthrough, it's now incredibly dull and boring and sadly you must do this to upgrade anything.

Biotics don't effect shielded enemies anymore? Weak. Apparantly I can't throw an enemy since they have shields...?

Weapons now have ammo...that isn't really ammo...but acts like ammo, and than is covered up with a half-assed reason. (I would have been ok with this if your gun would actually overheat when you ran out of clips, but no it ceases to function.)

Though it is very considerate to listen to the complaints of the consumer and try to improve the game....Don't throw common sense out the window...

If critiqued on its own accord ME2 was a great game. Though when compared to ME1 not so much. With half the amount of quests, the lack of the quests tying into eachother, or just overlapping into another quest line. The complete lack of tradeable items. The complete overhaul of an unbroken combat system. Not being able to upgrage the armour, weapons, abilities. I was under the impression that ME2 was gonna be a sequel to ME1. Not game with stingy ties to another game. Hell it feels like a 2 disk map expansion pack woooooo hooooooo extra polygons. Oh and lets not forget that this has gone from super great scifi rpg/shooter to simulated sex in space. Oh to Tali or not to Tali that is the question? WTF??

Actually, Thermal clips made more sense than overheating, theres no way a gun can cool down in a few seconds like in ME1. Thermal clips absorbing the heat would make way more sense. Also, the ammo thing made reloading a lot faster.

Yeah thermal clips make more sense than overheating...But why does the gun not work if you are out of clips....It would make a bucket load more sense to still be able to use your gun if you were out of clips but really punish the player with a very long cooldown. That is logical

Geez, is this the third time that review has been mentioned? It's not a big deal - so what if one critic doesn't like it. As I've pointed out before, even with a four-star film, you can probably still find some critic somewhere who will give it (horrors) 2.5 stars or complain about something. Meh.

Not just that, but biotics is just creating a force field, and a shield is a force field, so they would cancel eachother out.

This person obviously didn't play very far into the game if the entire criticism is based off of those few things.

The complaint about "having to" romance aliens is Fox News worthy, since nothing in the game *forces* you to do so, and anyone would know that had you played more than an hour or two.

GameCritic also has a second opinion review of ME2.  There is a link to it at the bottom of the first article, but I'll link it anyway.

They are very much alone at the very bottom of the critic group.

...Very much alone.

I'll get the torches.  You pass out the pitch forks.  Anyone have some rope?  If not, is there a good location for building a pyre around here?  Maybe we should just go for the pyre straight out, a bbq sounds kinda nice atm...

Seriously, I found the user review on metacritic that scored the game a 0 but said it didn't really deserve a 0 first thing in the review to be more noteworthy (and amusing) than the low score one actual critic gave the game.

It doesn't matter, but I just want to add something concerning videogame and metacritic/game reviewers.

Not only game critics are mostly inept, they have failed to establish solid criteria in order to elevate the gaming scene like movie critics could do in the 50's.

Some genre will always end up lower, because they are mostly multiplayer like fighting game or RTS or mmorpg. The same is more or less true with rpg, since it's a genre which blend stats+storytelling+gameplay and exploration, etc. Is this normal? It just seem silly to me to punish some genre because the gameplay will nearly always be inferior (rpg) or because there's virtually no solid singleplayer portion ( mmog).

It's much easier for an awesome action game like Uncharted 2 to get a 96 or Mario galaxy to get 97.In the case of Mario galaxy, critics completely disregarded the story and focused on the awesome platforming gameplay. If you focus your attention on gameplay,it usually pay off big time with critics.

If I were to take every shooter and rpg and compare the average rating, shooters will easily come out a winner. It's really hard for a shooter to even be below 80,but there's a lot of rpg getting trashed all over the place, especially if it's a jrpg.Critics won't even care if a shooter story doesn't make sense,as long as the "gunplay" is great and visceral+solid multiplayer and it's a 9+.

The fact that Mass effect 2 is so high is staggering, but also kinda prove my point since it's more shooter than rpg.It really goes to show you what most critics think of rpg in general (I would really like to know how many of these eclown actually played the classic wrpg like Fallout,Baldur's gate,Planescape:torment or Wizardry). :P

I looked at the reviewers other reviews, he hates borderlands, bioshock, and other games too. He plays games with the sound off and he sometimes doesn't finish the game and gives it a 3.5 anyways.
This guy is a joke critic, I don't understand how it counts as an official on gamespot. :(

He also said music doesn't matter in a game and you don't have to finish the game to understand if it's bad or not.

A game critic should atleast finish a game... he should be fired. >.>

Meh, giving ME2 a 7.5 only makes them look like morons.

It's their credibility, I guess. One would think they'd value it more.

I stopped caring about game reviews long a go. Games rated high are crap, games rated low are good. Sometimes a critic hits spot on, but honestly I don't really care about that, since I can have my own opinion, thank you.

Then go get 10 low rated games and have fun...

I mostly play high rated, not because they are rated high, but because i think they are very good games. And some of the best games i have played, they are rated high, go figure.....

Some Critics have no idea what there talking about half the time, they place games like sonic at a high score, When mass effect is far superior, but at the end of the day, mass effect 1 and 2 has sold extremely well and there is wide spread praise for them both, So the complainers and whiners can take a run and jump into the nearest resevoir :)

This.  It is true of movies, TV shows, video games, books, etc.  I'd rather make my own determination.

At last someone did say it. Answer: yes, they want. I don't understand it myself, but so it goes.

I'm not talking about trash games that get scores like 1 out of 10, is an indy game and has a name like "Stalin vs Marsians".

And I do have fun. Thats the point - I don't think its fun only because some dude near a PC thinks hes an expert cause he writes game reviews. I don't trust them, because you think sometimes companies don't buy reviews?

Lets see -
Bioschock 2 IGN gave 9.1 - overrated. 2nd part can't compare to the 1st part . Glad I did not waste money.
World of Warcraft - average above 9 - I found it waste of my time, want my cash back.
Some critics gave Dragon age a 7 , while I found it a wonderfulg game.

Sarcasm:

Whats that? Different type of games? People actually have their own tastes?  Well how do critics know that? Are critics objective or biased on their reviews? Do they have their won personal opinions? Critics give different scores? Opinions differ???

Not playing a game simply because it got a 7 from review is foolish. Of course if you prefer everyone else make the decision for you its ok, I know some people find thinking for themselves too hard :innocent:
