I swear, it's almost impossible to do the platform fight as an Engineer on Insanity. I've spent the past two bloody hours trying to execute that fight. I brought Thane and Miranda with me for their Warps. I had them positioned in the cover in the middle of the platform while I stood towards the front. At the beginning of the fight, Thane and Miranda are commanded to warp each drone, removing their barriers as my drone distracts the guardian. Then we burst down the other collectors and wait for Harbinger to take control. 3/4's of the time I can kill harbinger but by that time, my squad's already dead or on the verge of death. The battle on the second platform is what is challenging since I do not know where to cover that is safe from the scion and the collectors. Has there been anyone who's beaten the collector ship as an Engineer. If so, what did you do?

sorry mate, im there as a Sentinel, i almost made it by staying in the 1st point of cover while avoiding Harbingers black explody ball, advice is kill the other Colectors rather than Harbinger 1st or hell just keep taking controll of them all

The problem with that is; if you give him too much time, he will flank you and kill both you and your teammates. I'm unsure how to lock him down other than spam Drone (which dies in 1-2 seconds depending on its position or harbinger's ability.) But in doing so, I reduce the amount of damage I can do to the target.

Dw bout team, they always die on me, and Harbingers never flanked me, he just tryes to kill me right infront of me, main problem is his big black ball attack coz it hits u outa cover, make sure u avoid it and take it slow

I think the weirdest thing about that fight is that the Scion's shockwave doesn't hit you behind cover but seems to completely ignore cover for your teammates. They pretty much one shot my team, even grunt.

I found it easy with two things:

--summon Drone against Scions. Will keep your team from getting demolished.

--have two allies with Heavy Warp. I took Miranda and Thane and with my Engineer equipped with Reave, we burned Harbinger down pretty fast.

I finally did it. I had to retrain my character and decided to go:

4 Incineration Blast

4 Heavy Overload

4 Explosive Drone

4 Warped Ammo

I brought with me Miranda and Thane and had Tempest equiped on both of them. At the starting platform, I warped the far left Collector, sicked my drone on the guardian, then I focused on the far left while Miranda / Thane burst the middle. With the two drones dead, it didn't take long for us to take out harbinger. Once he was dead, I ran to the center cover and I was lucky since all three of the collectors were standing in the same place. I used dual warp then Incineration blast to scorch all three of them and then slaughtered with them gunfire. This gave me time to kill one of the scions. By the time the third wave came, My teammates were dead. I slowly took down the collectors one by one then focused on Harbinger. There were a few close calls but once he was dead, I was able to take down the final Scion.

Man.. I'm so glad that's over. I appreciate the feedback from you guys and everything. Was helpful!

Totally all about the Explosive Drone. Drones are REALLY good at getting aggro from Harbingers and Scions. And they kill the drones REALLY fast on insanity, so you'll get a ton of damage out of the explosion if you keep spamming the drone.

I found the key part of that for any class is not to take cover in the barriers right in front of you. Move yourself and your teammates to the outer sets of barricades. Once the new sections come in your much more protected from fire.

Just got to that fight with my Vanguard and I'm getting completely crushed (even by Vanguard+Insanity standards). Guess I'm about to experience another one of those infamous two-three hour (!) battles I had to endure earlier during my Insanity playthrough. Really thought I had gotten past that stage by now; seeing as the last few recruitment/loyalty quests were really easy.

Just remember to do as Max suggests and use other barriers besides the ones you start by, as there are barriers available that protect you from both the starting sections and the ones that follow. It's still a tough fight, but with Explosive drone I managed to squeak by. Just don't be static, if you're getting flanked, do your best to find a new position to fire from.

You seem to already be cleaning up the collectors, so once they're clear and you have harbinger and a scion left focus on scion.  As an Engineer plus Thane and Miranda he can be nuked pretty fast, and I played as a vanguard.  You can dodge harbinger's projectiles after a fashion by sliding along cover, sprinting and the like.  If harbinger becomes a problem or new collectors show up switch focus to them.

I finally finished the Collector ship; that mission was a 4 hour long nightmare (although defeating a Praetorian by strafing around a pillar was dumb fun). Don't have any good additional advice to share on the moving platforms fight, unfortunalety, as I got through by luck alone and never really found a combination of barrier positions that made a substantial difference to the survival rate of my squad mates (for one thing, both Scions and Harbingers had more than enough flexibility to be able to adapt to whatever cover position I chose). Probably the single most significant aspect for me was simply to discover just how effective the Heavy Pistol is at taking down the Harbinger's armor (but not its barrier, obviously).

you need to target the scion FIRST with anti-armor sniper rifle. if thane is your only sniper then you need to assign him a sniper rifle.

you stay alive by staying behind cover on the narrow ends of cover of the platform you're on.

Alternatively, you can rush  to the first connecting platform when it hovers over. this can make it so more collectors do not spawn in while you fight the scion. this only works sometimes and requires you to safely clean out collectors fast, but the good part is that bc you save right before hand, it is okay to play aggressively/dangerously.

this was one of my toughest fights on insanity, definitely tough with such little cover. good luck

The platform fight gave me a ton of trouble on my Infiltrator playthrough, but it was cake on my Engineer.  I only died once, got sloppy and was knocked out of cover by that annoying Harbinger attack.  I think I was using Grunt and Miranda through this part.  At this point my setup had maxed Explosive Drone, maxed Demolisher class skill, Overload and Incinerate had 2-3 points each and I had 3 or 4 in Tungsten/AP ammo for my bonus.  If I had taken the time to retrain to Warp Ammo it would probably have been even easier.  I had assault rifles as my bonus weapon skill.

I just kept my squad members behind cover in the area you start out in.  Once Harbinger appears, I spam Explosive Drone on him and tell my squad to focus fire him.  I save all my cooldowns for Drone, and resummon each time it's destroyed (which happens a lot, Harbinger likes to one shot Drones), while using all my squad powers on Harbinger.  If you keep up the Drone spam, he will rarely approach you or launch attacks as your squad whittles him down.  I would take out the other Collectors first as my squad focused on Harbinger.  Once the Scion appears I drop my Drone on him and go back to focus on Collectors.  Since your drone is on a Scion, you have to worry about Harbinger actually advancing and launching attacks.  I try to kill Harbinger last so he can't possess the others, but sometimes you have to focus him if he gets too close.  This whole time keep the Drone on the Scion, attacking it during any downtime with squad powers and Incinerate + assault rifle fire.  With AP ammo he went down really quick.  Rinse and repeat and the whole encounter was pretty easy.  Just remember to keep a Drone on Harbinger or a Scion at all times, with Scions taking higher priority since they tend to destroy your team through cover.

One thing I noticed on Engineer is that you can trivialize pretty much any mission in the game with Tali + Legion.  Three Drones make the game a cakewalk.  I got Attack Drone for Legion and Explosive Drone for Tali.  I was able to melee a Geth Prime to death on Legion's loyalty mission by keeping him busy with Drone spam.

Stay in the middle of the platform you start on, that way you will almost aways out of the range of the scions' attacks. Use drones to distract Harbinger, shoot/incinerate the rest (the panic effect of incinerate is great here). Win!

I found it really easy with an Engineer.
