I just cannot stay away from being a vangaurd.

I've tried every class now, none is nearly as fun as the Vanguard. Granted, it's the hardest class to master, but you're always on the front, always thrilling moments. I play on insanity and still focus my gameplay on charging as much as possible... I open battles with charge and keep charging all the way till the end, never gets boring, you're always on the move.

I just finished a Vanguard play through am now I'm trying soldier. I was a soldier all through ME1 so I thought it would be my favorite...but I'm really missing the ability to knock people out of cover. I didn't realize how much I came to depend on abilities like Shockwave and Charge.

I always love the conversation I have with myself playing the game as a vanguard...

Oh man he is so far away!
...oh wait I can charge from the other side of the map
...gyeaahh..
-oh, wait, there's more than just him...
oh crap oh crap
find cover...
find cover!
fuuuu---
I'm dead =(

Thats because you forgot to  throw a heavy Shockwave to scatter his buddies then pick them off one by one.

Vanguard by far is my favorite class

try this on you Vanguard

Spec in the  Heavy Shockwave and the Spec Jack in Area Shockwave.

Then  have her do an Area Shockwave and follow it  with  your  heavy shockwave

My favorite class is the Infiltrator b/c that suits my game-play style, but my second has become the Vanguard. Pre-ME2 release, I though it looked awesome. Then I started to play ME2 and I thought the Vanguard Charge was useless in the opening Cerberus base mission (there are some places you can't use it). So, I started to hate the Vanguard. However, I kept at it and it got a whole lot better. You just have to know when to use Charge and when to not use it.

I treat Charge as a finishing move against the tougher enemies. You can take them down pretty quick with Charge + close-range shotgun. As mentioned before, you have to make sure you take care of the weaker enemies first, with Shockwave or use your squad mates abilities.

Just because I do not use the claymore shotgun does not mean I am not a true vangaurd. Try this, heavy charge an enemy, kill him with the shottie, turn and drop 2 more with the assault rifle, turn and heavy slam another, pure destruction for your enemies. I am sorry but as a vangaurd having a range weapon is key.Even in me1 I kept an assault rifle as my bonus talent.

I am the same way. I can't play anything but a Vanguard. I just love the crazy ultra-offense style of play too much, everything else seems way too timid now.

VG on veteran is sooo fun but when I beat insanity with my soldier I just couldn't go back to playing on a lower level. I had to figure out a way to manage insanity with my VG! So after hitting up the VG on insanity threads I went with the squad cryo ammo option to freeze targets (more crowd control), sniper rifle option (helps out sooo much), and armor piercing rounds as my bonus power to help my shotgun break down armor.

It's still challenging, but definitely more manageable.

I can't stop being an Adept. I miss being able to lift+unstable warp everyone, or slap their asses with singularities.

I'm playing an Infiltrator right now, and it's pretty good, but I like my Adept better.

Definitely a better class (the Vanguard) once you get to end-game. You have enough survivability at that point to allow you to play the class as it was intended.

Vanguard was the perfect class to save Tali in the endgame race for the valves. That was like the shining Vanguard moment for me as I stormed their lines, bouncing off Harbingers to get closer to the valves.

I could be wrong but I haven't done all the math yet. but a vanguard picking up the Assault rifle rivals the soldier at having the most guns and carries more bullets too. My Vanguard is a monster. but what is this I am hearing about cryo ammo now. I thought it might have been useless since it doesnt have and special effects against defense and only freezes people

I'm currently playing a Vanguard on Hardcore with Dominate as my bonus skill.

How it works:

Kill the defenses of someone on one side of a group of enemies.

Dominate them.

Wait for cooldown, then charge an enemy on the opposite side of the group from the one I dominated.

This results in the group of enemies getting multiply flanked from me, my squad, and (until Dominate wears off) the poor sap who I mind-controlled. Even if they don't die quickly from my first charge and attack, they are generally distracted/weakened enough for me to either charge/shoot again and/or Dominate someone new whose defenses are down, run for cover, and repeat.

Mostly has worked out pretty well. The hardest part so far has been the Colossus area of Tali's recruitment quest (All Geth everywhere and no AI Hacking :( )

Other way round for me, tried Vanguard and hated it because of the short range and the charge ability is pretty meh in my opinion, went straight back to Infiltrator.

I hate it. I mean getting stucked on one way of playing. Now I can't make myself play anything that that specific Me1 Soldier turned to Vanguard character. Anytime I try to play diffently, I lose my will to play and stop playing. It is sad really.

I tried starting out as a VG on insanity but found it just wasn't worth it. However, with an ME2 import and I'm starting out at a higher level with all the bonuses? Then it definitely becomes more viable.

Still, props to the VG's who started out fresh and stuck with insanity all the way to the end.

I mean, only playing the game in one way, because I like it a lot and because I like it, I get bored when I try something else. Limits my life. Or at least playing Mass Effect.

I yet have to play the other classes beside Soldier and Vanguard ( time constraints ^^ ) and the Vanguard plays much better than the Soldier. The charge makes the combat simply much more kinetic and you got to be careful where you go, otherwise you get owned very quickly. I just wish his other biotic powers would be something more useful, like Warp and Overload.

Vanguard is amazing. Played it on Veteran my first playthrough, then switched to Adept for Insanity. I finished and got the achievement, but it wasn't as fun.

I've just about beat the game with a Vanguard on Insanity. It's awesome to really use the class to its full potential. There's no better feeling than zipping about the battlefield and destroying your enemies one by one by one- on Insanity I can clear a section in 30 seconds that took me several minutes as an Adept. Don't die a whole bunch, but I seem to die about the same- with a Vanguard its because I don't charge the right guys in the right order (usually start with the ones furthest from the group and work your way in), with an Adept it was because I'd get flanked (by not killing the toughest/fastest guy straight out).

I'm trying to play as a VG on insanity I just finished as a infiltrator on insanity, I had a great time headshotting with cryo ammo and thane and legion also with sniper rifles, really easy way to clear anything... I hardly used cloak or any ability, just geth shield and snipe, scions become really easy coz they fear distance, the last two scions on collector base just stand there as we snipe, with VG I feel really limited, shockwave was really powerful on tutorial level but as you know since then every enemy comes with some sort of shielding so biotic powers become very restrictive I'm tempted to mod it, with a VG I think having sniper team mates is a must

Soldier is my Fav. as i can master any combat situation and if i need to use biotics or tech abilities, hell thats what team members are for lol. Also soldier Shep is the only one who can get the Revenent machine gun, which is one hell of a weapon. Vanguards tend to go 'BOO YAY VANGUARD CHARGE!!!!. . . oh god where did you come from, argh find cover, find cover. . . death ^ ^.
