Eh, the AR is nowhere near as impressive at close range as the shotguns are, in my opinion. Although if you're not playing on insanity I suppose all that weapon-swapping and random power spam right in the middle of a firefight won't get you killed.

I really would not give up the Claymore for an assault or even sniper rifle. Thats just not the picture of the Vanguard I have in my mind. On those rare occasions when the shotgun can not really be used the SMG or heavy pistol will do.

@Topic. The Vanguard is pretty addictive as soon as you figure how to use charge. Still I like the Infilitrator too. Not as much tho.

I play vanguard all the time, but I find charge so useless... I think i'll go sentinel on my next playthough instead.

I'm playing through with a Vanguard I had in ME1 named George Shepard.



I picked Reave for my extra power, and he kicks ass!



I still liked my Sentinel (also imported from ME1) better. Sentinel gets that awesome tech shield, and overload. Shepard, Miranda, and Jack or Samara were unstoppable.

There is another forum for character discussion you know. That being said, Vanguard is my favorite class now. With every other class I can sort of play-it-safe behind cover and usually finish any fight with no problem, though it might take a while. Vanguard just charges in there, kicks some ass and charges again. I finish fights faster and I'm always in the red. It's a lot of fun. Of course I always get annoyed in that if I miss a shot after charging I die. So I die a lot more than any other class as well. Still the most fun though.

The gameplay of the vanguard is very different to those of other classes which require a more generic cover to cover system, if ME where a mmo a team would ideally consist of your 3main combat classes, having infiltrators snipe, soldiers deal with mid range and vanguards being closequarters, at earlier levels one can feel as if they are playing a nerfed soldier or adept but later the VG's stlye becomes evident and unique

I have to play as something with tech. I just have to. Don't know why. Also, I prefer being at mid-long range. Close up? Just too messy for my tastes. As such, infiltrators or engineers with assault rifles are usually what I play.

I tried the vanguard and disliked it. Really liked the sentinel. Trying an Adept now

Same here. I've been planning on a revenant soldier forever, but in reality nothing but a vanguard has made it out of Lazarus research facility
