*potential spoilers for Origins?* So I understand not having the option to start a new romance or 'continue' romancing your current character, but I sincerely hope that it's just going to be thrown to the wayside if we carried out a full romance in Origins. For instance, I was under the impression that my character had married Alistair at the end of Origins... is that just not going to matter when I encounter Alistair in Awakening? Or is that specific origin/ending an exeception? Just looking for a bit of clarification about what "no romances" means.

As I replied in another thread, I believe that what they are trying to say is that in Awakening you will not have the options to demonstrate your love (meaning that there will be no options for kissing/sleeping etc) because you and your partner are both in diferent places. However, that doesn't mean that you're divorced. You're just traveling alone without him/her for some time while you're fighting this threat.

Just regarding those asking about the romances, by "not continue" it just means you don't have a chance to actively continue the relationship during the course of this adventure. It does not mean that you mysteriously broke up or that the romance is not recognized to exist. I would have liked to have cameos by everyone, but that simply wasn't possible. As it is, you may find some treats awaiting you -- recognizing past decisions can be done in small ways, as well as large (and this applies to things outside of romances, as well).

In the Awakenings FAQ, it explains how characters like Alistair, Wynne, and Loghain could make cameos depending on the choices you made in Origins. Does this mean you get to continue your romancing ways with your original hubby of choice Alistair? Most unlikely, but I wouldn't throw the idea of your romance failing to affect dialogue choices out just yet.

By saying there won't be any new romances in Awakenings, Bioware is saying they wish to focus on the task at hand, which is stopping the new threat. Continuing your old romance to substitute the lack of new options would basically be going back on Bioware's intentions.

Okay, that quote from David Gaider really answered exactly what I was wanting to know. :)

Does anyone else feel awakening is becoming like Dragon Age 2?

It seems as though by these decisions BioWare is setting us up for either another expansion, or for when a full-blown sequel to Origins is released, meaning that all of our choices from Origins will affect the plot of DA:O2. Of course, this is purely speculation, but I would love to see it happen, as I'd personally hate to see the sequel be an entirely different game.

A more accurate comparison would be that Awakening is something similiar to Shivering Isles from TES-IV.

Not really, why do you think that?

Yeh, I suppose but all this import stuff and cameos makes it feel like more than just an expansion pack.

So true. Image IPB
Lack of cameos from (Zevran/Leliana/Morrigan) and no romance options in general lead me to believe this is the case.

How the hell do you figure that? I'm worried it will feel more like a big DLC then a full expansion... let alone a sequal.

I said ''like'' as in the amount of attention and anticipation reminds me of sequels not the content.

I would be expecting more if this were a sequel.

Which makes zero percent sense considering my ending with Leliana.

Think of it this way, she maybe preggers with your child thus she won't travel with you risking the child

Well, wouldn't really explain why she isn't there if your Warden is a female, or why Zev isn't there. I suppose Leliana could have let Oghren take a peek at what was under those Chantry robes and maybe Zev spent the night with Sten before he returned home. Some crazy stuff going on in Thedas so you never know.

If she's in a romance with you she stays with you whatever you decide to do, otherwise she goes off to protect the sacred ashes/Orlais etc. I was reffering to when she is in love with the PC, it could explain her absence :D I'm hoping for a very plausible reason as to why she doesn't come with me mind you

Well that's kind of what I was saying, a female player can romance her and last time I checked two females cannot produce a child without a third party or special equipment, so yeah that excuse works for one out of three. Let's not forget the dirty little elf now.

I wouldn't worry to much about it though, I can think of a dozen solid reasons off the top of my head. I'm sure they'll satisfy most the crazies out there.

ii am seriously wondering what more romancing you want. i mean the only thing you could do in dragon age is say: yes dear, kiss and ****. More romancing basically leads to fighting darkspawn while raising kids or saying that your partner has changed and has to loose weight. which really placed the game more as a sims 3 look alike

Zevran stayed with my PC, and is currently rebuilding the GWs with her. Considering how loyal, faithful, and protective he turned out to be in the end, it's highly doubtful he'd let her go alone.

So it would have to be a new Orlesian warden, and I'm disappointed that she can't have a meaningful relationship with one of her companions.

Perhaps she was summoned to protect the Sacred Ashes/ go to Orlais while she was traveling with you, and because you love her and know that this is a very meaningful thing to her you have let her go (but not before making her promise that she'll return soon). Or perhaps you were summoned to take care of this new darksapawn problem first and then she decided that this would be her chance to take care of some personal matters until you returned.

I'm a bit disappointed that characters who broke it off with Alistair don't get any new romance options. I can't imagine my mage origin character choosing to be Alistair's mistress. And I was kind of hoping that there would be specific dialogues between her and Anders. Since due to his backstory from what we've heard, she'd have at least heard of him.

Even though I'm still shipping her and Cullen something hard. I'm just going to pretend he didn't go absolutely nuts and kill everyone for the story in my head.
