Kajan are you playing on normal or what? Not that it matters she is still the best, but bosses die a lot faster with 15% extra damage on insanity we talking a lot of time. Also its more than 15% really, since she boosts both weapon and power damage which means she boosts both your base damage and your ammo + power damage.

And 15% more damage with each shot is more than you think, im not good at math but i think that it actually is more than just 15% overall. At least i know for a fact, that things which reduce stuff by a certain % is always higher than you might think. 50% damage reduce means that you can take 100% more damage for example.

Garrus is also good which is why i posted him high but he is not better and if you want a sniper go with Legion with his widow he is sick.

Assuming Hardcore/Insanity

S Tier: Miranda

A+ Tier: Garrus, Grunt

A Tier: Mordin, Legion, Tali, Samara, Thane, Zaeed

B Tier: Jack, Jacob

Miranda: Can strip any defence.

Garrus: Versatile, can take out shields and barriers and can fight well.

Grunt: If you build/upgrade him correctly he NEVER dies.

Everyone in A Tier: Useful depending on mission. But not always.

Jack and Jacob: Both need to get close to deal decent damage, but Grunt is much much better at CQC. Their powers are mediocre.

I'd put Grunt higher on the tier list, mainly because of his massive survivability (high health, crazy regeneration and Fortification) and his ability to insta-gib lines of Husks with Krogan Charge and Claymore Heavy Shotgun on Insanity.

For Hardcore/insanity, I'd say . . . .

S tier: Miranda, Grunt, Legion

A+ tier: Garrus, Thane, Samara/Morinth, maybe Zaeed

A tier: Mordin, Tali

B tier: Jacob, Jack

Miranda's team boosts are amazing, Legion has the functionality, usefulness, and survivability of Garrus and Thane combined(and the widow, which is ridiculously powerful), and Grunt does massive damage and is almost impossible to kill, if you give him the max health regen as his final class upgrade especially.

Garrus and Thane are powerful but more situational. Garrus is only good against synthetics, and Thane is only good against organics. Samara is powerful on the attack front, but dies rather easily. Zaeed is Grunt Lite.

Mordin is a powerhouse against shields and armor, but he gets shot down very, very easily. Tali is useful against synthetics, but her short range gets her killed easily.

Jack and Jacob both need to get to close range to do good damage, and neither of them have the health to survive it.

S-Tier: Miranda

A+-Tier: Grunt, Garrus, Zaeed

A-Tier: Thane, Mordin, Samara, Legion

B-Tier: Jack, Jacob, Tali

I'm a big fan of Zaeed since he's the only source of disruptor ammo if you're not a soldier/infiltrator. Inferno Grenade is a decent substitute for Incinerate, combined with Concussive Shot and Disruptor Ammo gives Zaeed damage bonuses against Shields, Biotic Barriers, and Armor.

I would rank Legion higher but you get him so late in the game that he drops down a tier because of the limited amount of time you have him.

Outside of Grunt I find that the NPC controlled shotgun users get themselves killed way too often trying to put themselves in range.

I'd put Thane a bit below Garrus otherwise I agree with everything else.

Garrus also ends up a bit better when he gets AP ammo and Concussive shot is quite useful in taking down barriers.  This makes him more rounded out for taking on even the Collectors.  Thane just has his shredder ammo which is pretty much useless in my opinion.

Concussive doesn't mention that it's effective vs barriers. Image IPB That rounds him off a little, yeah. I always took Thane because he had heavy warp.

I don't get it, I've never found concussive shot to be particularly useful.

Urazz says it's effective versus barriers, which would improve his ability against collectors substantially. But the power doesn't mention that, only the knockdown.

Concussive shot does 3.5 times damage against barriers. It's mentioned in one of the loading screen tips and also listed on the mass effect wiki.

Yeah, well it still pretty much sucks on Insanity.

Miranda is the best. I always take her with me. Samara, Legion, Thane, Mordin and Grunt also seemed ok to me.

What version are you all using? PC or Xbox? Because my retarded squad mates on PC always have to be told to use their ammo powers. Seriously, I'll reload and forget to reactivate their ammo powers and then not realize it until half-way through the fight.

Dunno why People give Miranda such a good Mark.

She has Warp and Overload, but (i play only Insanity) she dies very fast and ..

maybe its my Imagination, but she is plainly stupid! No other Character walks so dumbly in Enemyfire like her!

S: -"S" like Samara! AR+Lift+Reave. And she looks badass! <3

- Garrus has Overload, AR Ammo and Assault Rifle!

A+: Grunt(his "Charge" makes his a Husk-Killer, Forti and Incendiary is helpful, Concussive is situational)

- Zaeed is a tough Guy! He takes some good Beating and has the Grenade,Disruptor Ammo (good against the many Mercs), +AR and Sniper

A: -Legion(only for his Rifle, Shields wont help much in Insanity, the Rest is Gimmick)

- Miranda sounds good in Theory... but in Practice she dies too much. (imo!)

B: -Jack has weak Weapons and "only" Lift + Warp Ammo... not much

- Tali is maybe fun with Drone, but i liked her more in ME1

-Thane seems o be good Damage Dealer + Warp, but i dislike him somehow.

C: - Jacob seems to me useless in Comparison to other Characters.

- Mordin is the same. Weak Weapons and only Incinerate seems useful.

I disagree on Mordin. He's excellent when you properly assign him cover and have some sort of squad ammo boosting his weapon. Not to mention he makes it easy to waltz through collector missions.

Honestly I've found all the complaints about squads dying off to be rather strange. In my experience on insanity, I've found that 9 out of 10 first aid stations I run to are actually 100 credit atms cause I'm full up on medigel.

Hardcore & Insanity... currently doing an engineer run on hardcore since i didn't want to go right into insanity with a class i don't fully understand (synergy wise).

Look.. i don't know how Mirandas Damage Bonus is applied.. but i assume it looks much like this:

social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/128/index/1123228/1#1126038

And 15% doesn't look much anymore if you are using Damage enhancing powers like AP or Warp ammo.

mundus66 wrote...

Or less than you think. I don't notice much of a differance, except that other Squadmembers work much better with my playstyle. Maybe its just the comfort of having a Squadmate with an Assault Rifle next to me, as opposed to one with a SMG.

And if i compare this damage values:

Vindicator Assault Rifle  (Pretty accurate 3 round burst which Squadmembers can't fire full out)
Damage 36.8
ROF 900
Mag/Max 24/96
Refire 0.625s

Tempest SMG (Pretty inaccurate, unless we talk about mid to short range)
Damage 14.0
ROF 925
Mag/Max 50/450

Then we are talking about a lot more firepower from that end, especially since i prefer to fight my battled mid to long range.

This thread is great. On Insanity:

S Tier-
Miranda (Warp and Overload to strip defenses, Squad Bonus, Slam to finish/immobilize)

A Tier-
Grunt (Real tough to kill, doles out massive damage, has the very very useful Krogan charge for husks, and Squad Incendiary Ammo),
Garrus (Overload, Assault and Sniper Rifle, AP Ammo anyone?)
Samara (Area Reave is the boss, Assault Rifle, pick the Caedo passive class skill seriously boosts damage, and a great combo of Biotic powers)
Zaeed (He's tough to decide between B and A. He is VERY useful the first couple of levels...I always replace Jackob with Zaeed on Insanity runs for the Omega recruitments. Assault Rifle, and he lives so much better than many other squaddies. Maxed out Inferno Grenade is suprisingly useful against groups of husks and other baddies.)

B Tier-
Morinth (Dominate is just not as useful as Reave, but other than that she's Samara light)
Legion (He just isn't around for very long at all, but is a beast when fighting synthetics...he's the much more durable Tali)
Mordin (Would be higher, but he can be quick to die and his powers aren't quite as useful on Insanity. They are killer on every other difficulty setting)
Thane (Also can die quickly at times, but has Warp)

C Tier- Jacob, Jack, Tali (All three of these guys are seriously weak on Insanity...die easily, no defense stripping, no great weapons)

Based on what I've read so far, anyone who doesn't put Miranda at the top of their list basically loses all credibility.

Jacob and Jack also seem to be the worst teammates we can get, while characters like Tali and Zaeed are really debateable.  I just don't believe Tali is as bad as you guys make her out to be though.  With Combat Drone, she's diverting 25% of the action away from your squad (and a level 4 combat drone is hard to kill), and AI Hacking temporarily eliminates the Synthetic threats.

I'm starting to think I'm odd, since I really like Jacob and Miranda as a team. Good for setting up the pull+Warp combo until you can replace him with Samara.

She is good i put her pretty high, but she is really only a worse version of Legion.

People don't seem to realize you can get Legion before doing anyones Loyalty mission if you want. If your renegade why should you care if your squad gets taken anyway? If your paragon you can just reactivate him and then never talk to him and EDI wont have the IFF installed until you accepted his extra mission and completed it. Do not accept his extra mission though, since then EDI will have it installed after 1 mission. I have done this twice, reactivated him before all my loyalty missions where done. On both, my squad never gets taken away untill after im done with every loyalty mission.

Your not odd, i always use Jacob early in the game (mainly for Squad incendiary rounds). But once you got a decent squad, he gets replaced. He is better than Jack though.

You don't allow her anywhere near enemy fire.  Her main benefit is leaving her out of harms way and just making use of her powers.  Her abilities don't need line of sight from her character.  Stick her in a corner away from the fight and just use Warp and Overload as if they were your abilities and enjoy the team bonuses.

If you're letting Miranda out in the open, you're doing it wrong.  For example (from a part most Insanity players are familiar with), before the first Scion fight on Horizon, stick her in the alcove to the right before you enter the courtyard and leave her there for the whole fight.  Having an extra Heavy Warp AND a boost to your health and damage is better than crossing your fingers and hoping that some other teammate survives long enough to do any real damage with a gun.

Veteran/hardcore

S - Miranda, Garrus
A+ - everyone else
A - Tali,
B - Jack, Jacob

Honestly, the only characters I find really weak are Jacob and Jack. Tali is very situational. In missions with synthetics she rocks the house.

Miranda, who I don't like much in terms of personality and don't take much as a result, is godlike due to having both warp and overload, plus the leadership skill

I take Garrus a lot - overload+sniper rifle/assault rifle+armor piercing ammo is impressive.

I find Zaeed entirely acceptable. he has good weapons, a decent ammo skill, a decent class skill (big+ damage) and I find concussin shot very useful against various charging idiots.

Frankly, even up to hardcore, and certainly on veteran, I find I can complete virtually any mission (except Horizon) with any group. It really doesn't matter that much, it's just easier with some. I take Tali far more than her rating would indicate, just because I like her. And I take Zaeed a lot because I love his comments.
