I click the launcher and it comes up fine.
I click play and the cursor gets an hourglass for a second then nothing happens. No black screen, no loading no nothing.
I have uninstalled and re-installed to no avail.
I have tried running the game launcher directly and get the following
"This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application my fix this problem."
As I said before, I have tried re-installing.
The following are my computer specs.
Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3 (5.1.2600)
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 6400+
3.25 GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS
Realtek HD Audio output
DirectX 9.0c (Aug2008)
I found others with similiar problems on these boards but no solutions because they gave no computer specs.

I suffer from the same. When I click play it brings up the same text.
I updated all my drivers. I set the config to minimum, un and re installed game repeatedly in various folders. So far no solution were discovered. If someone knows a way, please share?
Thanks

I had to reinstall my EA downloader, even though I have the DVD. Then I uninstalled ME2 and reinstalled. That worked.

I reviewed the specifications to run ME2 listed here meforums.bioware.com/viewtopic.html
I did not see an issue for most people, with one exception, 3.0 Shader, the video card must be capable of this.
Verify your video card can perform 3.0 Shader, this may require a driver and software update or upgrade. I am an IT consultant and PC service and support company owner, if I can be of further assistance, please let me know.
Happy Valentimes Day.

There is no way to deal with your question without information. Read what Chris wrote in his pinned thread, and follow the outline, please.Lianaar wrote...

You also chose to ignore Chris, and your question remains equally unanswerableDrahazad wrote...

I have since tried installing the EA Downloader as was suggested by another poster (even though I have the DVD's) and that did not work.
I've also seen people mention that their games were not installed correctly and they were missing files but my installation folder seems to be the correct size of 11.4 GB.
Any other suggestions or references to other threads?

Without posting more hardware information, as per the stickied thread, I will say that it will be very hard to isolate the problem. Please post complete hardware/driver setup first (as per the sticky), and save everyone having to "guess" what things to try. It won't help you if it is a video driver problem and we are trying to test other hardware problems.

Spectre, I do not think that Cooldevo was addressing you. I could be wrong, but I think he meant to speak to the same coat-tail riders I had made my remarks to yesterday (and if I was wrong, sorry if I stepped too hard on your toes, but Spectre had included most of what Chris asks for in his opening message).
If you have never tried what is called a "Clean Boot", that is a diagnostic process that can often identify conflicts in running games. Microsoft has separate pages for each of its Windows OSes describing how to do this. Do remember to disable your internet connection, because the AV, firewall, and anti-adware are all supposed to be stopped.

I just downloaded Mass Effect 2 and when I try to launch it, it says that I need to be online to activate it. The problem is, I am online. I've tried to disable my firewall, and it still gives me the same error msg. Any suggestions?

I would suggest giving us more information on what the actual problem is, as well as Windows version and everything else thats required to help us troubleshoot your problem.
See this thread for details on what is needed.
http://social.biowar...6/index/4795299
Also, if running Win7 or Vista, open up a command prompt and type in the following command;
netsh int tcp set global ecncapability=disabled
Then run the game and see what happens.
