Can we please try reading my OP first?...Ive even bolded out some KEY things.

Let me make mine bold too....

No multiplayer in a back story an/or current for shepard would not work. I don't care if it's about 4 nameless people that try to save everything it would not work.

Its not about 4 nameless people that try to save everything. That's what Shepard is doing.  Im suggesting a different story but relating to Mass Effect in some way.  Like Miranda and Jacob's story in the books.

But what you are suggesting is something that should be discussed after ME3 comes out.  It wouldn't make sense to play as someone else when the story is about him. It could be an entirely new game though after ME3 is done and over with.

I could see a new story that takes place after the events of shepard, but it still would not be good for co-op or really multiplayer. If you lost control of one of your squad mates an well frankly if they were being a damn **** it would ruin the fun an story. Since the whole sytle of game is about you leading your squad it would defeat the purpose to let a real person take over.

short answer : no

long answer : Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

why on earth would you try to ruin an epic singleplayer game like ME with multiplayer..? if you want it so badly, go back and play MW2 or L4D2 :)

Its not about the single-player. Your pre-assumptions of the thread are invalid.

the Mass Effect Trilogy is a single player experence following shepards epic struggle to save the galaxy. mulitplayer would convolute that story. i dont mind seeing a spin off based on the mass effect univers, but creating ME3 with multiplayer would ruin the basis for the game.

so, like others have said, not a chance. sorry.

Ive tried to make clear what my idea of how Multiplayer can be included in the game. Your reasoning sounds like you see Multiplayer in a different way.  Tell me what you think when I said "Multiplayer", then re-read my OP.

and your idea might be fine for a spin off, like i said.

not ME3. ME3 needs to remain single player only to finish shepards story.

I'd rather sleep with a Krogan than have multiplayer in ME3!!

No. It doesn't matter how it would be written in, it wouldn't work. In fact, it would kill the franchise. Introducing MP to this series would be an awful, awful move.

A spin off designed from the ground up to be a co-op adventure, maybe. But not for ME3. Never.

I always thought it needed co-op. ALLL these people being sooo rational about adding new features are sooo lame. Why in the h3ll would you not want more replay value added to Mass Effect. Do you really enjoy beating it 20 times and experiencing everything 3 times atleast. Multiplayer or a Horde type mode would be amazing!!!

I REALLY enjoy the single player aspect of it BTW. As do I with the Metroid Prime series.

No. No multiplayer. Not in any way, shape or form. And here's why not:

Time and money. It's not like they can add 4 lines of code to the game and have instant multiplayer. It takes a lot of man-hours and a lot of money to pay for those man-hours to develop multiplayer. BioWare has a fixed budget and a deadline. Even if they wanted to add multiplayer, they wouldn't get extra time or money to do that. So the recources would have to be taken from the real game. Which would be bad.

Second, the entire game would have to be rebalanced. Right now, it's balanced for 1 Sherpard with 50-something skill points and 2 companions with a lot less. If there are suddenly 4 players, they would have to have the same amount of skill points. So the enemies would have to be tweaked. And then those only playing singleplayer would suffer from rebalancing patches. Case in point: World of WarCraft is constantly struggling to tune skills and abilities so they work for both PvE and PvP, but not be useless in one and godlike in the other. They've had 5 years to do it and they still haven't succeeded.

Thirdly, if the add co-op, people would **** and moan until BioWare caved and added deathmatch and other nonsense that would further funnel resources away from singleplayer.

Conclusion: Multiplayer should never, ever be added to Mass Effect, Fallout or The Elder Scrolls.

NO. You can have all the ME multiplayer you want after ME3 is done. Tacking(don't kid yourselves, it will be terrible) a horribly unbalanced multiplayer mode on to ME3 will take time and money away from finishing the trilogy with the best game possible.

the problem is everyone assumes vs. when they think MP. A survival mode type game wouldn't really change the elements of the game much, just allow you to fight the waves of enemies with a friend rather than a cg friend.

Most games these days aren't very good at mixing multi-player with a good single player campaign. MW and MW2 had a really cool, cinematic campaigns, but it only took a few hours to complete, with no compelling reason to replay it.

I would like a co-op multiplayer game set in the ME universe, but I'm hesitant as how it would work out. It sounds like ME would be the perfect setting for an MMO, but right now, I am totally anti-MMO, after playing them for a long time and realizing what a complete waste of time and money they are. They all have crappy game design intended to slow character progression so you keep paying. Screw MMOs. I don't even like that Bioware is developing a KOTOR-based MMO.

On the other hand, Diablo II is still a fun, sub-free, hack'n'slash co-op game that you can get into on a casual basis, without dealing with guild politics or other nonsense that comes with persistent worlds. If they could make a sub-free co-op multiplayer ME-based game that is friendly for the casual player, I would get it in a heartbeat.

The day ME goes multi in any form is the day i do not buy another. The game benfits hugely from not having to compromise on story and gameplay mechanics to satisfy Co-op/multi restrictions. Anyone seriously want Army of Two in space!? I didn't even like it on Earth!

Well then don't buy it. Mass Effect 3 will indeed have some sort of multiplayer. EA has already stated that all games that come out in 2011 or beyond it will have some form of multiplayer or DLC

Multiplayer? Nooooooooo....

There are more than enough multiplayer games already. Don't destroy the ME series just so some dip****s can have yet another generic co-op shooter.

Ugh... I really hope the OR here would mean just DLC for ME3.  Multiplayer for ME makes no sense at all.

Exactly, I have no problem with DLC (when it works lol). And I was just commenting on the thread, airing my views on Multi in ME, where's the issue there?

HOW does it not makes sense. It's basically a co-op game anyway. Your squadmates act like players so what difference would it make if it was a person? Get over it, it is going to happen, and in my oppinion should

Yeah, multiplayer ruins Bioware games. Just look at Neverwinter Nights.

...

But personally, *any* form of multiplayer would be at least pretty interesting, even if it was just a buddy taking control of one of your squadmates. It would just be hard to fit in a game like Mass Effect given all the other features of the game that aren't really compatible with multiplayer: exploring, conversations, cutscenes, etc.
