Interesting, so people bought these packs strictly for the items, got nothing else out of them, and didn't get to use them for say 30-50 hours in Origins and will continue to be able to use them whenever they load up Origins, and the fact you won't ever really use it in Awakening due to the fact that the gear will quickly be outclassed holds no water apparently. Would the added hassle and effort needed to make it function properly really be wroth it in the end or would that time and constant testing be better spent elsewhere.

-I didn't buy RTO strictly for the items, but considering how short it was, I would have felt cheated without the items.
-I didn't use those items for 30-50 hours. In fact, I doubt if I used them for 5 hours.
-I won't likely load up Origins again. Four times is enough.
-The argument that I won't use it in Awakenings doesn't hold water. It's a huge assumption. You don't know what gear will be available, and you don't know how I choose my gear.
-I doubt the time and effort required to include these items would really be all that significant. They can pull some money from Mass Defect's advertising budget to pay the overtime.

So you will be using gear for a lvl 20 max  character when you are level 30 or higher?

To be honest items aren't that important and judging by the quality of the alledged tier 7 bonus items in awakening (the medallion/bow) they'll be replaced quite quickly stat wise.
However, personally, I have my arcane warrior using warden's commander armour because I love the design, if I were min-maxing I'd go with Cailan's armour (hypothetical situation, I know this isn't available to the ps3 yet) for the greater fatigue reduction.

Stat wise I'm fine, I have all the expensive armours/weapons/accessories, "rare"/missable weapons like topsider's honour, ageless, fade wall and such but it's the look that I cared about.
I don't know whether I should be annoyed or grateful if there ends up being armour in awakening with the model of the warden commander's set, but at any rate it is being overblown; I enjoyed the short use I got out of them in my origins campaign and there was never a guarantee they'd span beyond the base game.

I'll retract this statement if "awakening dlc: return to origins loot chest" comes out however :P

Edit: be sure to clear out your warden's keep chest if it has anything you'll want for awakening, they couldn't bring the chest along, just givign the heads up to anyone who may have missed it.

So you'll be starting Awakening at level 30? Cool.
Furthermore, some benefits scale better than other in the context of the game: for example, while armor value and weapon damage will be worthless by the time you're level 35, % values, as well as attack and defense values, remain pretty much constant ( defense and attack depend on your stats rather than your level. This means that if you keep raising your dex or str, +def and +atk will be worth the same over the course of your entire career. They could, of course, add more items with more +def and +atk, but that would throw the math behind the system out of whack, since the game, to my knowledge, is still based on a random 100, and inflating numbers too much would make the random pretty much useless).

That's what I've been saying as well. Most people are just caught up in the moment (aka, pissed off because this came up as such a shock), but if you think about it rationally you'll out-level DLC gear pretty fast and getter new, better stuff as well. And of course you won't start naked. ^_^

That's entirely possible. I was using the Family Sword and Shield of Highever long after better gear was available.

Of course, it's level 25 max, not 20, and I doubt if I'll be hitting level 30 in the first 30 minutes of gameplay.

Maybe nobody agrees with you because we don't really care. We paid for the DLC content just like we paid for Origins. They were supposed to be part of the game, not just a community mod that might end up being unsupported later on.
We don't want "better and cooler looking armor", we want to keep the items we've paid for. Wearing a set of warden commander armor for some people defines their character as much as their class or talents. Is this so hard to understand?

Really when i bought the stuff and yes i bought the stuff it never said once "This armor will be able to be used in all future expansions and new DA games."
Yes it would be nice to keep the commander armor but suck it up. It's likely they might even have that armor in the new game that you will be able to get later on how do you know? And starfang is an ok sword but i mean if i could get an amazing new warden commander sword i would be happy.
Also you wont be able to use the armor in the expansion but you still can in Origins.
PS yes I am kinda rude I'm sorry its just my nature.

Seriously, I can't understand the technical difficulty behind allowing dlc items to appear in the Expansion.

Me either.  But for that matter, I've not seen a shred of evidence to suggest that it's a technical issue anyway.  The FAQ merely says that DLC items won't be ported over.  That could mean lots of things... including start-game  balance issues, simple developer decision making etc.

As to the broader thread debate,  Yeah, I know, I'm certain we'll  be getting better  gear within a half hour of playing Awakening  (that's obviously true), but for some reason, that  doesn't  quell my disappointment.      For me,  the decision to strip my imported character of all his  DLC gear is a role-play issue.

Would Sten be happy if you told him to forget his old sword that he's been using his whole adult life  and find a new, more powerful sword to take its place?  Nope.  Instead,  he'd probably say:  "NO"  (Sten disapproves -5)

I'm the same way.  The only exception would be if they purposely tied the equipment loss into the storyline  (like they did with HoTU and BG2)  But I doubt   they did.

Awakening is not a "future game". It's an expansion. Wanna a link to know the meaning of the word? It means it adds to your game. It's not a different game. It's something that is supposed to improve your play experience.
DLC are supposed to work with DAO. Awakening, being an expansion rather than a new game, is still a part of DAO. I don't give a crap if I can still use the content I paid for in the original game, which I happen to have finished 1 week away from release: there is no logical reason for said content not to be imported in the expansion, and this precedent makes buying any more DLC in the future a no-no for me, and I suspect for quite a bit of other people.
PS: Saying "sorry, it's my nature" does absolutely nothing to excuse you. If you're aware that you're being rude and you don't want to be, stop being rude. If you don't care, don't apologize. Nobody I know goes around slapping people and apologizing because "it's their nature". And it's a good thing, because I don't think anybody would take said apology seriously.

OK, I'm not a Tech Guru by any means but this comment has me a little confused.

What " added effort" are we talking about here?   They don't have to do anything for your DLC items to get imported over.   Once you download a DLC, those items become part of the game's resources.  They'll appear in any   Dragon Age mod, DLC or expansion that you import your equipped character into.

The opposite is actually true, Bioware had to go through the effort to  specifically make those items non-portable to Awakening.

Exactly Yrkoon..

And its why the fools of this thread just don't understand out anger. this is not an expansion, its a whole new game, calling itself an expansion with a retail price of a full game.

Not sure if its been stated yet, but I would imagine that you dont even need DA:O to play Awakenings....and if thats the case, then we truly do know what EA are going to make Bioware do with this franchise.

So far we have been miseld, lied to (and dev posts unless deleted can prove this) and the whole thing is becoming utterly shambolic.

Is there a way we can petition to resolve the DLC issue with Awakening? I was looking forward to this expansion, but I going to save my money for either Final Fantasy XIII or God of War 3.

I really hope that the FAQ is wrong. :/

^This is what seperates an "expansion" from a "new game"

If you do need DA:O then this is an expansion pack. period.

And I'm 95% certain that you do.

Haha i do know and i could stop but i really just don't want to. I say it to be more of a dick .
I'm sure they have a reason for the no DLC do i know it? no of course not i didnt write the game or develop it. I highly doubt that Bioware goes around thinking of ways to make you guys mad at them. If they could have put the items in and had them work well they would have. I'm sure they knew you guys would be so connected to the armor that you would cry about it on the forums. It would be nice to have it yes but I'm sure that it caused problems so they had to take it out.

Care to give us an example?

so the expansion uses the exact same tech, game engine, and specs that Origins and the DLC does...hmmm....and was written/developed by the same team as Origins...

I don't think they will, it will probably work similar to the FORCE LOAD option in Dragon Age Origins, which is offered if you are missing a DLC for a save, it will load but the items wont be there.

I can understand why it seems childish to complain about the DLC items being gone, but the argument is that people paid extra specifically for certain items.

Granted, Starfang was just a small part of Warden's Keep, so there's not much to complain about. Plus, you start off Awakening as the Grey Warden Commander, so there's a good chance you're going to get a better version of the Warden Commander Armor when you start up anyway.

Cailan's Armor, and Duncan's weapons are the one thing I will agree with. Most people, if these forums are any indication, only purchased that DLC just for the armor and weapons. That's about the only thing I can understand being angry about, since reaistically, you paid $5 for in-game gear.

Aside from that, Shale is dead or off on her own thing, so of course she won't be in it.
