Tali is one of my favorite characters, everything about her is so well done. Her voice, the real actor (Liz Sroka I believe--HOT), but its her story that intrigues me the most. Bioware did such as amazing job with not just her, but with all the characters. You can't help but want to bring peace between the Migrant Fleet and the Geth just for Tali's sake. If you ask me, isn't that the point in good gameplay? The more you get attached to your characters, it just means Bioware is doing things right. But I feel that way about most squad members, but I have to say, I hope that Bioware does us right by allowing us to find a common ground between the Geth and Quarians, giving us the option to unite the two again, and the Quarians gaining their homeworld back again with a mission alot like her Trial (which was epic). Tali better survive because Tali IS Mass Effect. :) If i had it my way, I would let the Geth become a "Protector" role for the Quarians, as I have made the decisions in ME2 to best set that scenario up.

I really enjoyed all the characters in ME1, it was hard to pick a favorite, but I enjoyed the romantic interaction with Liara as Shepperd. I thought Liara had a sweet personality and lovely eyes. I teamed with Tali a bit because I like her form and conversation. Garrus and Wrex are also great characters. And of course, Seth Green doing Joker is just priceless. I've only started ME2 so I haven't gotten into all the charcters yet, but I was a bit put off by Miranda at first. She initially comes off as gruff and hard core, totally opposite of Liara. But, that's good as a warrior and I team with her a lot.

I predict this thread will go down in flames over which character was the best one from ME1.

Actually I think you'll find that Shepard is Mass Effect.  Shepard dies in the suicide mission, no save for import into ME3.  Tali dies in the suicide mission, the story goes on without her.

While Tali was my favorite ME1 (and ME2) character I do find the Tali-mob to be rather disturbing. Idk I think she is a brilliantly written character and unique in style and persona, that said I cringe every time I see someone say "dem hips" in reference to her. It's like with her LI it feels the most like one that you're in it for her personality not her body. But then there's all the comments on here and it feels like I want to be her friend and everyone else just wants to get in her pants, it's weird.

And on a side note I always saw Tali and Wrex rated as the top favorite squadmates in ME1, and while Tali is back in a big way I was very disappointed that the default status of Wrex is KIA, seems like kind of a poor move given he was more popular than Garrus in ME1 (btw I like Garrus a lot more in ME2 his character has come a long ways)

The only thing I don't understand, is this;

How can people like Tali etc so much when there are characters like Wrex, Grunt, Zaeed, etc.

I don't know, perhaps it's cause I grew up on Shwarzenegger, Stallone, Van Dame, Segal, Willis, etc style action heros, but I like characters that kick ass and chew bubble gum.

I like Tali, don't get me wrong, I just don't get the level of followers the character has compared to the likes of Grunt.

I mean, grunt is like the equivalent of Conan the Barbarian... on my team, in space.

I dunno, I just don't get it lol.

I think the prime reason Grunt doesn't have that many fans is because he feels like a copy of Wrex, and he is in so many ways.  I like the character a lot, but I like Wrex more :P

As for Zaeed, he is awesome but I like Tali more, namely due to the fact she IS also a badass. Sure she has a soft, cute side, but she also a : "I will tear your limbs one by one" side just as Wrex and Zaeed do.

*facepalm*

Someone please lock this before it degenerates into a flame war?

Or it turns into another "save Tali" thread?

C'mon, people, get a grip. The guys over there in the "Save Tali" thread are having a good time, but I highly doubt that they are that Tali-obsessed as you make them out to be. The game has been out for a short time, I too have problems taking my mind off it yet. It'll die down in a month or so to more manageable levels.

Getting a thread to 18k posts in 8 days isn't "having a good time", it's an obsession.

I'd rather say "an animated conversation". I'll admit that the thread moves frighteningly fast, but people are talking to each other most of the time, not just posting "ZOMG I LURVE TALI!!!!1111oneoneoneleven".

Still... dude... 18000 posts... in 8 days... and that's just the second thread. Add the first one, countless ones which didn't make it, and the 5 or so from the old boards...

Well, they ( and me, although to a much lesser degree ) are very enthusiastic, but it's not as if they come to your home and dance around your computer, shouting "Tali, Tali!" :P

Leave them to their fun, there is really no need to call them "creepy".

Honestly, I like Tali too, and hope she'll be back as a squaddie/LI in 3, but seeing human beings that... "enthusiastic", as you would call them, over her...

It's the internet, people go ga-ga over the damnedest things. And I think you must admit, Tali is a very likeable character, has the right amount of mystery and her romance is very sweet.

It'll die down to less eyeraising levels in a month or so. Just give it time.

Well I think Tali and the geth are gonna be a huge part of me 3. For one simple reason. shepards needs allies to take down the reapers. And I dont mean more squad members. I mean an army.

To kick major reaper arse I think that Shepard is going to rally all forces of the galaxy to fight them. The quarians have a gigantic fleet and the geth have superior numbers and unusual tech not seen anywhere in the galaxy. Turians have a huge and disciplined standing army, the salarians have the best recon teams out there and the asari have been in the universe for a while and posses amazing biotic abbilities. Krogan are brutal warriors. and the rachni still remain a mystery.

I think that tali and legion, and for other obvious reasons the other squadmates as well, are gonna be key characters in the next installment of our beloved game series. They are gonna help rally their people for the cause of preserving the universe as we know it.

The Tali thread is a conglomerate of several casual posters and only a few dedicated ones. Months before the ME2 was released, Thane threads were pretty much the same - they had thousands of posts in them, and several iterations. Yet no one really raised issue with them. It's not creepy or obsessive, I've honestly seen much worse in other fandoms.

Among the examples of OTHER fandoms:
a) People believing that fictional video game characters are actually real. As an example, some nutty fangirl who thinks that she married Sepiroth in the spirit world.
B) Anime.
Posted Image
c) The people who viciously argue about romantic couples within their fandoms. This is called "shipping." Harry Potter comes to mind.
d) Twilight.
e) Movie and television actors/actresses. May I remind you that a politician was assassinated by someone who wanted to impress a female celebrity.

People like him ruin anime for the sane anime fans, just like obsessive Tali fanboys make Mass Effect look bad. I bet if Bioware made a Tali pillow you guys would eat that **** up.

Actually, you're thinking of John Hinckley shooting Reagan to impress Jodie Foster.

Much as I like the Tali character (I thought her loyalty quest was the best one), I wouldn't want to infringe on the writers' freedom by telling them what to do with their characters.  If the story requires that Tali return to the Migrant Fleet to serve on the Admiralty Board and thus can't be a squadmate in ME3, for example, so be it.  I'd rather they tell a good story than try to cater to the desires of fans.

It's always the biggest fans that get the most attention. But seriously, as someone who has seen and posted in the Tali thread, people are exaggerating how big the fans are. It's growing popular to consider the Tali fans as fanatical, dogmatic, or what have you. Often when people reject something based upon it's popularity, they will embrace something else due to its popularity. For example, the Twilight people and the Twilight haters. Both are popular.

No, I'm pretty sure it's the pages upon pages of creepy discussions, fanficion, and fanart that does it.

unless you are that dedicated and have that much time to prove that the fans are obsessed. Are you?

I haven't seen anything truly creepy. Fanfiction and fanart is pretty much standard fare for any popular video game or book. There's some geeky stuff in the thread, sure, but nothing creepy.

I find the Tali fan thread a little ridiculous. I love Tali though. I also don't really like the Tali romance they implemented, even though it's well-done, but the idea of romancing Tali doesn't bother me.  Part of why it doesn't interest me is because of how much it assumes about how I would like to approach a romance with someone from another species, which is to say I believe it borrowed a lot from what people were asking for in a Tali romance on the forums for months.  So many people loooved her bashfulness, I freaking hated it.  It made me feel so awkward  about romancing her.

It isn't by and large creepy.  But there have always been a few fans, that I wouldn't name if I could remember who they were, who make a big deal out of having sex with her.  So many comments are wasted on her hips or the fact that she has breasts, which sort of sickens me - as much as I admire the female form myself, I don't go around talking about it like that or with such intensity.

Then again, it is a forum.  Normal conversation can be endlessly debated in ways people wouldn't have the patience for in real life, if the conversation is on a forum.

Every page is basically the same.

Fanart and fanfiction can be fine. I'll enjoy a good Master Chief fanart any day, but if I started writing stuff like...

From that point on, coherent thought was lost to Tali’Zorah vas Normandy Master Chief Petty Officer John-117, and the inferno that had built itself within her his heart was unleashed thoughout her his body.

It would get creepy.

This is true of any popular video game or book. You can easily find on the net an immense amount of fanfiction for popular games like Final Fantasy, Halo, or whatever. I believe there was a Harry Potter site that was targeted by represenatives of J.K. rowling, who wanted the site taken down because of the thousands of sexually explicit fanfiction.
