There has always been a strong following for a Tali romance. I was part of that, but it seems to be about sex with enough people that I just don't care.

Plenty of normal fanboyism - but there is plenty of what "Truth" mentioned going on in that thread.

You'd only know this if you actually looked through most of the pages, in which case I would say you are trying too hard to convince yourself that the fans are obsessive or creepy.

I went back one page to find that example I added Master Chief to.
And my point is that it's creepy, not that it's something unique to Mass Effect. If your point was that "there's creepy fanfiction for everything" then I agree.

I seem to have spent more time looking at the thread than you, Alo, and I can confirm that from what I have seen, the sexual aspect is not very prominent. Among the principal reasons why Miranda is liked, in comparison, is for her body.

Like I said, fanfiction and fanart is true of any popular video game or fanfiction. It is even more likely if the game is an RPG or if the book is targeted or comprehensible by a teenage audience. On deviantart.com, Miranda already has half the amount of fanart that Tali has, despite being in only one game of the series.

Well, then my point in that regard is why are people making a big deal of it. Some people are so sensitive. I'm completely in favor of people voicing their opinions, but it seems people are allowing themselves to be needlessly annoyed by something so innocuous. But this is standard human response to things that are popular, so I should not be surprised.

I think for the "non-bat****" Tali/Garrus fans, you have people like myself who realise that Mass Effect is indeed primarily about Shep, but it wouldn't be Mass Effect without a kickass ensemble cast. Liara was the only one in ME1 who bugged me to death, and Jack kinda annoys me (she is so damned poorly written) in ME2, but all the same. The whole ME "thing" is that Shepard alone, kickass as he is, can't save the galaxy.

Tali and Garrus are probably the two people most dedicated to Shepard for no other reason than they like him. They're practically his only friends in a weird way. They're also probably the most well-rounded, non-total-cliche members of the crew proper.

They're pretty much required to balance out Shep's team.

You don't know how much I've been looking through that thread, and that doesn't even matter to my argument.

No one seems to mind, and the overall response to those posts that Truth mentioned are overwhelmingly positive.  It is the movement of the crowd that bugs me, not to say anything as fascist as, "they're all terrible creepers," but I just would like to say:  I don't care for it.

The fact that there is a lot of creepy fanfiction does not make it any less creepy.
Your "they're only hating things that are popular" argument makes it pretty obvious that you're a huge fanboy.

How can people like Tali etc so much when there are characters like Wrex, Grunt, Zaeed, etc.

That's a bit like comparing apples to oranges, don't you think?

Me, I'm just tired of this whole Tali issue altogether.
If I was forced to pick a favourite ME character it'd be Tali hands down, but I'm also completely and totaly aware of the fact that she's just a videogame character.
My problem is this: There are people on this board who (at least give others the impression they) like Tali to an unhealthy degree. At the same time there's a group of people who feel the need to constantly critisize this group, say this group is 'ruining the character for them', and just generally bash Tali's as a character.
I think a lot of the Tali hate is just reactionary to the popularity of the character herself, and has little to do with people's true tastes. They feel the need to provoke 'Talimancers' and this provokation just serves to make these Tali themed threads the massive juggernauts that they are.

The best thing someone who thinks there's too much Tali-talk on these forums can do at this point is stop adding fuel to the fire by posting/creating anti-Tali threads or 'what's the deal with Tali love/hate' threads. Sure, there may still be a super-huge fan thread devoted to her, but it should be pretty self contained.

I never said that was the only reason. Clearly, it's part of it, but not the only reason. I'm actually a not huge fanboy, don't know where you've gotten that impression. You can try projecting that unto me if you'd like, but it's patently false.

Tali fanboys can't seem to realize that some people just don't share their opinion. Everyone else is either a troll, or having a knee-jerk reaction to her popularity.

This is completely where I'm coming from.

Here's the thing:  I can understand not fanning the flames, but I do think it shouldn't hurt to be able to say it bothers you that people go so far.  They have people to be "at home" with, what about the people who disagree?  Not saying our opinion ever doesn't serve our feelings on the subject any better than encouraging greater violence in fanaticism about Tali.

Also, TerribleTruth:  Knock it off, seriously.  Collider's being pretty reasonable.

There are plenty of hated characters out there and yet I don't see several anti-Kaidan or anti-Ashley threads popping up multiple times per day. Maybe popularity isn't the only reason people dislike Tali, but I find it doubtful that they start these types of threads completely unaware of the fact others will react negatively.

That means there's at least some intent to provoke. Provoking is not far from trolling imo.

The people who don't care for Tali who would otherwise have no real reason to post their opinions are annoyed by the constant "we love Tali" threads. So they post their own opinions (and get called trolls).

Its the biggest thread on the forums and I am sure everyone at Bioware is aware of how important Tali is to some people. That is probably why they will, instead of killing her, kill Shepard instead if you romance her. A surprise Troll!!!!

So instead you --plural-- subject the rest of us to a barrage of 'anti-Tali' post/threads on top of the 'we love Tali' threads. Therefore polluting the forums with even more Tali spam.

I wouldn't mind so much if these anti-Tali people weren't also promoting the idea that all Tali fans are creepy basement dwellers. When people say stuff like that, people like me --who are not responsible for any of the *creepy* Tali content-- also get on the defensive.

It's a forum.. forum's are supposed to be all about differing opinions.
And yeah, being stereotyped sucks, but you only have the hardcore Tali fans to blame for that.

In ME1: garrus was my favorite, followed by wrex, then tali.

In ME2: Tali is my favorite, closely followed by garrus. I wish garrus had more things to talk about instead of those damn calibrations. The characters in mass effect 2 were much better written and i hope the same will be said in mass effect 3.

That all said, i think the whole thing with the tali fanbase to be a bit creepy... A little too creepy if you ask me. If you open that save tali thread 2.0 the FIRST THING you see is an animated gif file of tali's sex scene with shepard, then the removal of the mask. Tali is a pretty awesome character but some things are just ... I don't know... a lot of people are desperate for real women that they are willing to obsess over a video game character. It is just an overkill.

I hope tali will be in mass effect 3, i hope you can settle the conflict between the quarians and the geth. The romancing thing is just a bonus, too bad many people take it seriously.

I always found the Quarians fascinating. Their whole story is just epic. I sympathize with them and can't blame them for their choices.

I actually tapped Tali by accident - I didn't realise it would be a talktalktalksex thing - like a bloody simulator. Seeing these freaky fanboys actually made me laugh - how could you take such a random encounter seriously, let alone exonerate it? Over the top, of course, bu nothing to get incredibly upset over - let them have thier fun, you'd think that Bioreps would have figured out not to take them seriously anymore.

Oh, and you can bet your ass that not a single person of this crew is going to be in ME3's - Garrus and Tali were the only non-interactive members of the original squad (killable/sexable) so it made sense that they were transferred into the next one. Now, everyone is expendable.

They're also both fan favorites, so... they're here to stay. Though if ME3 allows you to select your squad based on who survived from 2, it shouldn't be a problem. I sure as hell don't want a new Normandy, crew and squad.

Here is this thing, if Wrex or Ashley or Liara were your squaddies in ME2 and have more interractions and funny dialogues I am sure people would call them among favs as well. This point "Tali and Garrus are Shepard's best friends because they follow him/her everywhere" is a bit irrelevant because just because Devs decided to write off the rest of ME1 squaddies doesn't mean they refuse to join your Sheppie. I was pissed at Liara's reason not to join me, it was so OOC and unbelievable = poor written. And I bet Tali will leave you in no time if her people ask her to. She is more Quarian then Shepard's team-mate.

I have no problem with the Tali but i have a huge problem with the "Cult of Talimancers" as i call them, they spam up forums with endless amounts of i love tali topics, they call anyone that doesn't like tali a troll, they can't seem to understand why people would choose a different love interest and go on to insult said love interest, they seem to think they're opinion is fact,  some have a obsession with making some cross-species baby with tali,  these are only the worst of tali fans, i don't have a problem with tali fans that aren't creepy obsessed individuals, the kind of fans that are like "i like tali but can understand why you would like miranda or jack" i try not to group all tali fans into the first category but its had when thats mostly what you see, kinda like thinking badly of different races because of all the bad publicity they get, what the cult of talimancers needs to realise that she is just a fictional character and nothing more, i like miranda but i'm not going to start picking baby names like some of them are...

You do realize that there have been endless complaints that Tali and Garrus weren't romancable in 1, right? They've been the subject of obsessions since ME1 was released.

Hey, I am not complaining about the fact that Tali/Garrus is a romance option. I just want other ME1 characters to get an important role (squad preferably) in ME3. And by the way, there were lots of people who wanted Shiala to be a romance option and a squaddie. So far all they get is a stroke on a cheek.

Tali romance is cute, but can you imagine the wave of hotness if Shiala was into Sheppie?
