Good morning all, I purchased the game two days ago from Direct2Drive and have nothing but frustration and anger over the inability to install this product. I have scoured the forums and website looking for the EA built fix and I can find nothing other than 100's of others that are having the exact same issue.

I have tried 11 different works arounds that I found on the web but nothing worked, it is the same issue.

Install start
choose lanuguage
choose express or custom (doesn't matter which)
Error "Dragon age: Origins installer has stopped working"

I have deleted and redownloaded the files multiple times with no success and am nothing other than sorry I bought it in the first place at this point.

I spent the last 2.5 hours going through the DAO PC Tech Support forum and I couldn't find anything posted by EA ether on how to fix the issue.

Many people have had the same issue and most have stopped posting so I am assuming there is an elusive fix floating out there somewhere I just can't find it.

Could you provide more info. OS 32 or 64 bit  XP,Vista,or 7,and video card specs would be most helpful

I'm sorry.

Vista 64 SP2

9800 GT (most updated drivers for video card are applied)

Cable modem and I have now downloaded it from EA store and D2D with the same results. It asks for language and then the Express or Custome install and as soon as I click it the error pops up. I have tried the Administrator work arounds as well as the lengthy fix attempt posted by EC on this board.

I am so frustrated and truly appreciate any help you can give me.

Going to suggest the obvious.

Shut down all unnecessary background programs.

Make sure nothing else is running by going into Task Manager.

Let us know how you go.

Okey Dokey. I shut everything down via Task manager but the bare 6 or 8 items. I also rolled my version of Vista 64 back to SP1. (I really want to play this game.) just redownloaded and got the same issue as soon as I tried to install. I am downloading via the EA downloader and I can't find the exe file to try and run as administrator. I looking in the EA core directory which was the default but the exe file isn't there.

I truly appreciate yalls help, as this is driving me insane.

My install is from disk, so not sure what you have downloaded, but I assume there must be some kind of file you are initiating the install from? Run this file as administrator. May also be worth turning off any Security suite etc. Yes, this is dangerous. If you are really paranoid - disconnect from the net first

I'm not sure what file specifically you are looking for as I have the disc version and I only have XP so this might be of no use to you but might be worth a try.

Open up Task Manager and open up Processes.

Now try to do your install and at the same time carefully watch in Processes what new file appears and uses CPU.

Then do a Start/Search for that file and when you find it you can set it as administrator.

This is all just guess work on my part but it cant hurt to try, ;)

I found the file that I downloaded from EA store. Here's the funky thing, when I click on the file and choose run as administrator form the menu. BAM same thing.

When you buy a game from EA, do you download a single file or multiple files. Are these a straight download or is there some kind of program like Steam that takes care of the download?

What I am getting at here, is that you must be selecting something or double clicking an icon to initiate the install? What is that?

You say 'It askes for..'

What is 'It'? :)

It downloads a series of files into a single directory. You can click an icon on the EA download manager or the Setup icon directly in the folder. Both are giving me the same error.

Just for fault-finding purposed, could you test on another machine (preferably with a different setup)? If you can do that successfully, at least will prove it's not the download's fault and you'll have a new lead to work from.

Those Steam/DD/D2D type downloads are tied to your account, so you should be able to download or play on any machine that meets the specs.

Yes, trying on another machine would test the integrity of the files. Doesn't matter if its an old machine as you ain't gonna play the game on it, but at least will show you that the installer works - or not.

I feel for you. EA should really sort this out for you.

What seems to be generating the error msg? Does it look like an error from Windows or from the installer itself?

Welpper now I am really confused BUT I am playing so I won't complain. No matter what I tried I could not get it to install. I turned on the admin as a seperate login and went to Switch user. I log into the same machine as the Admin clicked to install and 15 minutes later I am playing the game. I switched users back to my main account and now joy same thing but logged in under admin works like a charm.

Thank you all for your time and suggestins I truly do appreciate all of the help in getting me playing.
