My and my fiancée work with each other in a Call Center for a couple of Taxi Company’s. It’s a job I had to take after getting laid off at Allstate when they outsourced their Motor Club completely to India.
Well the job has it’s up and downs like any others but coming from a job I used to love and having to take a significant pay drop well I miss my old job but hey it’s the recession. Anyways, my fiancée told me the place is always hiring and they have training almost every other week because no one lasts or they get fired.
I decided to transfer from 2nd to 3rd shift since there was a opening. My girlfriend warned me before hand they noticed all the ‘White People’ being hired and they (Supervisor, and everyone) claimed I was apart of a conspiracy to replace all the black workers. They didn’t think at the time we were together (Eventually they figured it out but we haven’t said nothing but us leaving and coming to work together every day well yeah) anyways a group of people literally do nothing (Oh yeah my fiancée is black thats why they choose to share this around her)
Anyone familiar with a Call Center environment knows you can log off your phone or put it on an After Call to where you won’t get calls. These people on this shift literally do that were only two or three people get all the calls.
They have broken down the Call Center into three areas. Call Takers who just take the orders and place them out there. The Eats/Callbacks to where you must call back every person who makes an order even if its an automated typically only one or two people do this and then you have your Dispatcher and another one who focuses on carrying out driver suspensions, and emergency assistance for drivers.
Typically there is always 1 or 2 Dispatchers, 1 or 2 people doing Callbacks (On weekends of course two) and the rest take calls.
They literally sit there and do nothing. The Supervisor when he doesn’t come in drunk will come on his computer play poker or surf Face book all night well the rest of us cannot even read a book and his friends they just do whatever well only some people take calls.
In January everyone’s sick days refreshed so on weekends everyone calls off. So it’s bad enough you have to deal with rude customers or they want to verbally abuse you because their cab has not arrived like we control it two of us have been taking calls for three major cab companies in my city which are all affiliated. One person will have to call back EVERYONE who places an order and do it within ten minutes (like that’s possible). Now his friends or as he says, “People of Color” they always will get help. In fact he made it known he was the HNIC. If you don’t know what that means, then look it up.
Thursday Night people made it very clear they were going to be sick. So no one showed Friday both me and my girlfriend were sick and tired as it is and then have that stress come on you. It’s been like this for two months now almost. The only reason why I havened just left was because I feel sorry for the one old lady taking all these calls if we left. But Saturday they all do this again, and we just decided to leave. Even the Supervisor didn’t come after Friday but the Assistance Supervisor who happened to call of Friday as well was upset we both decided to leave and we said we are sick. They let other people do this to us and leave us on weekends but for us, problem.
We are always there, we put up with there bull crap every weekend but with us leaving there was only one person doing each thing. I feel real bad for leaving but I am not the only one who decided to fake sick, at least I came in but when we saw no one showed and the Assistance Supervisor was already getting snippy at us, I told my girlfriend that we should just go.
I am just sitting here upset, because this is a horrible recession but come on you don’t do this weekend after week and then I have to pick up for a workers dead weight. To make matters worse, a new hire literally got to do nothing for a week because she did the Supervisors taxes on Turbo Tax on Company time and on his computer!
I hate this job!
