In what context would it make more sense to use the Missile Launcher over the Grenade Launcher? IIRC, Grenade Launcher has higher damage, and greater area of effect, and its shots still track somewhat. Do Missile Launcher shots just track targets around corners better, or is there some other benefit I'm unaware of?

From my experience there is no reason to take the Missile Launcher over the Grenade Launcher. It just seems bad.

It has very long range and heat seeking. There is a mission where 2 tripod missile launchers fire at you while you cross a bridge. The Missile Launcher is great there. Also, when you go up the ramp near the tripods you face a pretty tough opponent. You can stop just before seeing her, fire the missile and it'll curve around the corner to hit and soften up that target. There is hardly any cover there so it helps.

Oh, good call. Missiles do probably take corners better, and that bridge can take awhile on higher difficulty levels. Perhaps I'll bring that gun along sometime and see how it goes.

I liked the way it looked, but other than that.......

Dealing with those rocket drones can be a trouble on higher difficulties but I just used Heavy Overload on them after running from cover to cover. I don't like the missile launcher very much since it has a tendency to lock on to crates and explosive containers instead of enemies if you are not careful. The only time I really liked the missle launcher was against the praetorians, since you can point it is direction, fire, and dodge behind cover quickly. Where with the grenade launcher you must take careful aim.

I like the Missile Launcher because it's fire and forget. You have to aim the Grenade Launcher. For the ML, on the other hand, you just pop out of cover, fire, and duck again. It's great to bring a large amount of damage quickly when pinned down-- especially on Insanity.

The Missile launcher is only better for boss fights, where you can just hide behind a crate and fire over it.

The missles are good against enemies that are taking cover.

I use the missile launcher for situations where I need to fire while on the run. Its particularly great against Praetorians (wait till you get their barriers down first though or your wasting your power cells) because you can still hit them reliably while moving from one piece of cover to the next.

The Missile Launcher also has a lot less recoil, so spam-firing it is more effective.

Missile Launcher is great against Gunships. I'd prefer Cain for a Praetorian, they move so slow, it's nearly impossible to miss them.

I rarely use Heavy Weapons. I prefer my abilities. They recharge, the HW ammo does not.
