Ok this has been asked before but the answers didn't make sense looking at the toolset.  I'm just trying to learn and one of the things I'm getting hung up on is altering the inventory of a merchant.

I've found the merchants, I've figured out how to edit their wares.  I'm trying to alter the game itself not make a new module or anything.  Is that my problem? And if so, is it even possible to edit the core game?  Or do I need to start a new game to see the changes I've made, so far I'm only checking my work through save games I'm playing.

I would appreciate any help, thank you.

You don't need to include the change in an addin if all you wish to do is alter a resource. For instance you can change that merchant, export the changes in a utm resource, and simply place that resource in one of the core override folders.
As for seeing the results in-game, objects existing within the gameworld before the resource modification won't change. Not 100% sure, tho, as it may depend on the resource types. But as far as creatures and items resources go, pre-existing objects have to be "resetted". (as in blown with dynamite and re-instantiated)

Thank you I'm trying that now.  Though that does bring to mind another question.  Which orride folder should I put it in?  The one it is exported to in the toosetexport folder or one of the other three or so?  There's a couple under the Program Files\\Dragon Age\\... and there's a couple in the My Documents\\Bioware\\Dragon Age\\... , which should I use and does anyone know why there are so many of them?

OK, so I tried, it had to go into the My Documents\\Bioware\\Dragon Age\\Packages\\core\\overrride folder.  At least that's where I put it and it worked.  The change worked in a new game but not in a current game.  Now I'm wondering if the game saves the info of each resource when you start a new game, or each one individually as you encounter them through the game.  So maybe you could edit a merchants inventory in say Orzammar and see the changes in a game you've been playing as long as that character never went to Orzammar?
