No they aren't, but the difference between animals and humans is that our behavior is only influenced by our base instincts, it is not controlled by it. At least, that's nominally the case. One sees precious little evidence of if either on the net or in real life. 

I'd rather think of the Normandy as a ship full of competent professionals on a rather serious mission, not a bunch of animals in heat on the Love Boat. So that's how my canon Shep rolls.

Perhaps I'd expect a little more basis than that, since otherwise a majority of the galaxy would qualify and it wouldn't do any favors to views on Asari promiscuity.

I also play down the romances and flirting, or at least make sure I only do one at a time in my playthroughs, because a whole bunch of high school drama between crew members seems pretty obnoxious. The idea of romance on the ship as a whole is not ridiculous in my mind, however, particularly since everybody knows the mission is supposed to be suicidal and that adds a certain "Aw **** it, we may not make it out of this alive..." element.

And my canon Shepard falls in love with Tali and they pursue a relationship. Both options are perfectly valid and I never argued to the contrary.

Hmmm, now that's a difficult choice but between either Parasini or Shiala but I'd choose Shiala

They are both interesting side characters, and I happen to like them both. Whether or not they become squad mates in ME3, I still want to see them return. I would definitely pursue Shiala if she became available, because I think she's one of the best looking asari in the game, if not the best. Gianna is pretty cool as well, and I would love to see a possible development with her. It doesn't necessarily have to be romantic one, but perhaps a friendly encounter and a possible side quest that doesn't take 2 minutes to complete.
