PC users get to turn on off certain protections blocking biotic powers via the .ini-file (I believe).

I would hereby ask that owners of the console-version get something like this as well, possibly in the options screen.

Biotics were over the top powerful in ME1, agreed. But they were also tons of fun, fun I am dearly missing in ME2, and I think I am not the only one, as there are quite a few lenghty posts where people mourn the biotic castration that has occurd while shepard was clinically dead.

While it may break the difficulty of the game, there are other abilties that do this as well. In the end, the wizard players that bought ME2 would simply like to turn the battle field into a ragdoll physics demonstration at times and feel the power they had in ME1.

Its not gonna hurt anybody, yes? Soldiers and inflitrators were powerful as well, perhaps even more efficient at killing, and they were left relatively unscathed balancing wise. Meaning, they still tear up stuff pretty well.

Adept gameplay however is much different from ME1, and not for the better.

End of rant, thank you for your consideration :)

The vanguard got shafted on Insanity. Tried to use VG on there, biotics were useless and in the fire department I was lacking as well [ long-range to mid-range. ]

Vanguards have two core issues: Shotguns and biotics. They are pretty much built around these two things, and both suck, tbh.

Maybe the new DLC adresses the shotgun issue, but the playstyle of the vanguard relies on being able to excercise crowd control. Biotics are for crowd control. Unfortunately, they dont really work until you won the fire fight anyway.

I do feel that biotics were bent over and given an unholy shafting. In ME1, i played as a Vanguard, i had alot of fun bouncing geth and mercs off walls then decimating them up-close with the shotgun.

Having found out that VG is basically hopeless on any high difficulty levels in ME2, i opted for the infiltrator, i had alot of fun against the new enemies in ME2 with the warp, warp and incinerate combo.

But i do miss the ragdoll fun that was Vanguards in ME1, overpowered.....yes. But a crapload of fun too.

Thats why I never get on insanity anymore, unless I have too much time on hands, which I don't.

Rather enjoy and frustate myself. Veteran = Do-able.

As a matter of fact, biotics per se dont work with a tactical shooter that wants you to stay in cover, pop out, fire, and hide again.

The vanguard has even more of an issue with that, as the very core design has him pioneer and charge - which is not a good idea, espacially given the circumstance that ALL weapons now do the more damage the closer their target is. Also, the number of enemies seems to be less than ME1 to me in almost all battles, making the ability to disable foes even more powerful

So, given that anyone OUT of cover pretty much dies, crowd control abilities like biotics would serve to make the game a lot easier. ME1 was a fantastic rpg/shooter blend, so biotics worked, kinda. But with few enemies and the new gameplay, biotics are one of two extremes: Overpowered like hell (much, much more so than ME1), or crappy.

In all honesty, I think ME2 would have been better if ridden of rpg aspects completely and just have soldier, infiltrator and maybe engineer (with some of sentinels abilities for survival).

so youd like them to take out all the story and levels and essentially give you random name char and a gun and a bunch of enemies?

Story is not an RPG-aspect. In fact, most games have story, with varying depth, length etc. To say that story is exclusive to RPG is imho not correct.

And yes, I personally would rather see the level ups removed entirely than ME2's way of handling it. I also think the upgrading was kind of pointless, as it requires a very controversial minigame to do. Honestly, I'd rather shoot more and scan less, but thats just me. If you like scanning planets, then kudos to you, and I understand that you want to keep the upgrading system as an RPGish element.

Just to remove very steamlined RPG-elements that rather hinder the action than add depth to it (my opinon), does not equal removing story and customization, though

ME2 is already a "story shooter" rather than a shooter/RPG-mix with a load of dialogue and lore like ME1, make no mistake of that. Plus, if you are into story, you will want to develop the talent that increases paragon/renegade points above all else to get as many dialogue options as possible (since we value story), further reducing true choices when leveling up. If I was cynical, I could just say that leveling up detracts from story and gameplay by making me click things.

Reducing the need to click things was the reason the old inventory had to go, remember?

I am playing on Casual (so sue me!). My first playthrough was as a soldier. Second playthrough, soldier with Slam. Recharged every 3 seconds. FUN! Made it through many battles without pulling a trigger.

Third playthrough, Adept plus Reeve. Mapped Warp and Reeve to my bumpers and am mopping up enemies without even pulling my trigger for the first half of the game.

*FUN*!!! Which is the whole point, after all. Why beat your head up against Insanity with an Adept if it's not FUN? Play with a Soldier (or whatever the best class for Insanity is) to get your achievement and call it a day.
