Characters returning in Mass Effect 3

I am simply wondering how are any characters going to be able to return in ME3 considering they can all die in ME2? I mean Wrex, Ash, Kaiden, and Liara weren't party members because of all the differing paths available. With so many more different variables, how are any characters going to be able to return at all in ME3?
Further, there are so many characters in ME2 that are awesome I don't see how they will be able to include some from ME1, some from ME2, and a number of new characters for ME3 without having your team be 15+ party members.
Does anyone else have these thoughts as well?

It's going to be really interesting to see how Bioware plays this. Having the ability to have any of the party members die at the end of ME2 is an awesome thing, but I bet its going to be a pain in the arse while developing ME3. I have faith in Bioware, but it's still going to be quite a tough task for them.

Members I don't think will be squad members are Samara/Morinth and Zaeed. Liara will fill the role of the "biotic asari" and Zaeed was just a DLC character.
Everyone I didn't mention may or may not be in it. I also think there may be a chance to recruit 1 or 2 new people in ME3.

I am guessing that there will be 2-3 new party members available, and as for the rest of your team, you have to pick a certain amount from the remainder of your ME1 and 2 squads.

I think you are probably right on the few new party members. I think only your LI from ME1 will be recruitable, and maybe only if you stayed faithful.
Sadly, I think what it ultimately means is that there will be very little dialogue for old party members if they are even recruitable. Bioware is my favorite developer, and I have loved every game of theirs that I have ever played (BGII, KotOR, JE, ME, ME2), but I just don't see how they could pull this transition off very well.

I tried to use the search for this but I only found the love topics. Plus I didn't really know what to search for this specific question. I'm sure it has been asked but I couldn't find it anywhere.

I think Zaeed will be gone. He was just a hired gun and has no real connection to Cerebus or anything. He might not be back.
Mordrin could just be a crew mate, but not usable for a squad mate. He could do research, give out info, and maybe have some missions for you to go on, but that's it.
I don't see Jack sticking around, either. She got the info she wanted and doesn't like Cerebus. Just because she's a potential LI doesn't make her immune from getting the boot from Bioware. They cast off Ash/Kaidan/Liara to a cameo. Jack's no exception.
Then there are the deaths that occured during the suicide run. Cerebus rebuilt Shep, but they ain't gonna rebuild Garrus or whatever just cause you're BFFs.
They probably will introduce a couple new characters. Although at this point I think the fan base would rather see the return of faves from 1&2.
So, there's not going to be 15+ characters for imported characters. If you start new, which would be really weird, they could easily have some sort of Q&A like in ME2 which will determine who can join you. Or do something where you have to have so many Renegade or Paragon points to recruit certain characters that way it would be impossible to recruit everyone.
No that difficult.

I'm going to assume that all potential love interests will be around for ME3; it just makes sense based on what we know. So Tali, Liara, Ashley/Keidon, Jacob, Miranda, Garrus, Jack and Thane will be around. It's not official, but I personally believe it's a done deal that they'll be around.

ME1 and ME2 squadmates will return (if they survived) and there will be enough new squadmates to provide a reasonable squad if you imported with most of your ME2 squad dead.
Liara as a Biotic and perhaps 1 new soldier and tech.

He's got like 10 months. I can easily see ME3 taking place within 10 months of ME2. Hell, I suspect it'll start almost immediately after ME2's ending.

Reasons:
1) Losing them would require devoting time to recruiting a new team. This doesn't seem to fit the pacing of a final battle.
2) Much emphasis was put on the fact that you can lose team members in ME2. Other than the achievement, why bother saving them all if they don't play significant roles in the next game? Additionally, why bother making the player invest in them emotionally if they just disappear?
3) Legion clearly could play a huge role due to his status as,essentially, a diplomat from the geth to organics, yet is only recruited near the end of the game. It seems a waste to place such an important character so late in the game without plans for the future.
4) What more important thing is there to do than stop the Reapers? I doubt any of your team fail to grasp the gravity of the situation. Why would they just up and abandon your cause?

I am happy that i cannot recruit ME1 love interest in ME2 to bring her/him in a suicide mission... But, i would have liked more interactions with them. And no need to do a FPS mission for that : a night-club, a drink, a conversation, that all I need... And perhaps a bed, who knows...

I want the majority of ME 2 crew back and from ME 1 I want Wrex on My team. Miranda , Jacob , Grunt , Wrex , is who I want on My team in 3 . Kaiden and Ashley can suck it for all I care I hate those 2
Jacob?..........Jacob?........Now who in the hell wants a squaddie that's honest, reliable, trustworthy and loyal? Look how he came clean with Shepard on the Cerberus base at the beginning. Jacob by far is the only character that I really trusted in ME2.
We disagree on many things Extreme but, we do agree on Jacob. It's so sad that the inbred ass****s at bioswear did such a horrible job on him....although...we all know that it wasn't done by accident. I still can't comprehend why so many douchebags dislike him. All they can say is.......Oh Jacob, he's so boring or he was mean to Thane or some other lame s**t of that nature. If I had to save ONE person from ME2, it would be Jacob.

It was not because of different paths. In one interview it was said that Ash/Kaiden and Liara were not squaddies in ME2 because in ME2 squaddies could die, and writers wanted to make sure that those particular characters survive. So, they were removed from the squad just to be saved for ME3.
I personally take this as a slap on the face because in my eyes it reads as "All other squaddies aside our precious VS and Liara are expendable cannon fodder", and Liara and VS are the least interesting characters to me(though Liara in ME2 gor better. At least, she is not shy alien virgin anymore), and right now I'm a sad panda, as aside Garrus all other characters I like are unconfirmed and can end up just cameos.

***spoiler for ME2***
I'll be interested in seeing what paths they allow Shepard. Does he break with the alliance? Does he break with the Illusive Man and Cerberus? Now that he has the Shadowbroker on his side, can he start a third power?
