I'm not sure where you got this idea, but it's not my experience at all.

1. Many people get tattoos in places that are hard to see, especially if they work at an office.

2. People do not have the magical ability to know that a gryphon tattoo is from a video game. They will just see a mythological bird, which few people would laugh at.

3. People who recognize the symbol of the Grey Wardens are probably fans of the game and will think it's cool.

4. Usually, when people see a tattoo, they'll far more likely to compliment it or ask about it then they are to laugh. This is because adults in the real world tend to act like adults.

I'm glad you didn't go with the naked Duncan with the erection. The tattoo turned out nice, just don't put Bugs Bunny next to it, that's my only advice but...hey, it's your body.

I am REALLY not a fan of tattoos (too permanent, plus, omgneedles), but, wow, that's quite well done! I have no idea if you'd intended to have colour applied, but personally, I like it plain, as-is.

With regards to all those saying it's silly you have a DA tattoo...um. It's heraldry. A gryphon, segreant sinister (unless of course that picture has the gryphon facing the wrong way, and it's actually facing left, in which case drop the 'sinister' indication). There's no indication that it's based on something in a game.
