Hello all, first official post in the forums. Anyway, I've finished ME2 on normal and veteran for the Vanguard class and on normal for the Infiltrator. My dilemma is; I'm starting my Insanity playthrough and I cannot decide if I want to go through as a Soldier or as an Infiltrator. I played the Soldier throughout ME1 on all modes so I am well acquainted with it in that aspect but I get the feeling they might play a little different in ME2. I love the Vanguard class and the fast pace it delivers but I am interested in mixing it up for Insanity.

Please post your personal preferences and experinces. Any and all info such as tips, weapon loadout, skill specs, etc is more than welcome.

Soldier is better than Infiltrator imho. It just comes down to whether you want to use Cloak or Adrenaline Rush. Soldiers do more damage and can use all weapons. Infiltrator has Incinerate. I enjoyed Soldier more, but both classes are really powerful.

Soldier/Infiltrator are played fairly similarly; that is if you're looking to maximize efficiency (i.e Widow with AP or warp ammo; heavy disrupter ammo, assassin/commando specialisation, assassin cloak/maxed adrenaline rush.

The only real differences being that Soldier spams adrenaline rush instead of cloak, can fall back on assault rifles instead of smg/heavy pistol (when out of sniper ammo) but lacks heavy incinerate.

While I personally dig infiltrator's because of the cloak, which is plain sweetness, objectively speaking I'd say soldier's are simply better because of the massive damage bonus from adrenaline rush and the fact that it's much more spammable than cloak.

I am going through Insanity now as a ME2 lvl 30 Soldier Import.

I screwed up my build at the beginning lol and had to "soldier" may way to Horizen so I could get the research to reskill so It was alittle tricky at the start of the game, but I just blow through Missions now.

Horizen wasnt to much trouble, the collector ship, only the platform gave me some trouble. Everything is is cake, just gotta take ur time. Adrenaline Rush is what saves a soldiers ass in insanity, I use it everytime I come out of cover.  Adrenaline rush is also very useful for when u are in a spot where enemies just keep spawning until u progress to a certain point in the area, just hit AR run forward to stop the spawn then get to cover.

I use Mordin and Miranda for my main squad. And find that works the best for my play style

So I did some research, looked at a couple video's and I was think about:

Soldier:
Combat Mastery- Commando (Like the bonuses/ I'm a very mobile player)
Adrenaline Rush- Heightened Adrenaline Rush (Damage bonus and better time dilation)
Concussive Shot- Concussive Blast (For Husks and random mobs)
Special Weapon- Revenant Machine Gun (Maybe the Widow? Only ever used the M-300 Claymore)

After that, I don't really know where to go with ammo types and specialty skill. Was thinking possibly AP ammo or Warp ammo? Any specific order I should start taking/maxing my skills?

Also, I saw your video's Kronner and I guess you have to play the Vanguard pure balls-to-the-wall on Insanity. Kind of inspired me as well, but then again I've played through the game twice with it.

Suggestions?

Go soldier with AP ammo and get the revenant. Max out either Shock Trooper/Commando (I prefer ST) Concussive shot (either), Adreneline (I prefer hardend) and get Tugnesten rounds.

Spam AR and shoot stuff with your Revenant. Switch to viper at long ranges.

I went
Shock Trooper
Heavy Disrupter
Heavy Incinerator
Adrenaline with Damage reduction
And Heavy Reave

I never use concusion, I use the revenant light Machine gun. I have my two ammos as LB and RB

And like I said I have hardly any problems. I can blast through sheilds, armor then health on a target in seconds.

Concusion would make some situations easier but nothing I cant handle without

As a soldier, it really depends on how you want to play, as a powerhouse or a sniper. IF you want to be a powerhouse, use hardened rush, and you will be hard pressed to die (unless you get knocked out of cover). But if you want to be more of a sniper, go with heightened rush. It makes aiming almost a non issue, and almost every enemy dies after one rush (i recommend using the viper).

Engineer is my preferred Insanity class. It can deal some pretty decent damage and CC.

But between Soldier and Vanguard I would go Vanguard simply because I do not like Soldier class.

You also have Vanguard experience.

Thanks guys, I ended up making one of each and playing them equally. Soldier seems by far the easiest, followed by the Infiltrator. Vanguard comes in last until you get 2/5 damage and +50% against shields for your shotgun. Still undecided as to which I want to make my main to carry through to ME3, I'm leaning towards Vanguard or Infiltrator as the Soldier just seems too much of a bore.

On a side note, I do end up playing the Infiltrator at a fast pace too, using my cloak as a rushing utility and the widow for long range, high priority targets. Anyone have any experience with that?

Well, if you read the original topic you would have noticed that I have already played a Vanguard. Thanks though. Since this post I have finished my CQC-esque Infiltrator, a Soldier, and an Assault Sentinel on Insanity.

Vanguard on insanity then heh. Adept also sounds interesting, but I need to read up a few more guides about how to do it properly.

I find soldier a bit too easy on insanity, but it is fun if you have the revenant and are insanely aggressive. Some of the most fun I've had with soldier was bum rushing in close and letting lose with the machine gun. Kinda makes me think there's some actual credibility to the thermal clip explanation in the story. I've often found the revenant is great for the 80 round clip. Even if a reload takes about a second and a half, it's still a break in firing.

@Lonely_Fat_Guy

Thank you for your insightful comment, but i think you'll need to elaborate on why "Vanguards suck" on insanity. This has been proven untrue over and over again, so if you have any legitimate evidence please put it forward.

Signed,

Soldier and Infiltrator are, of course, the easiest classes for insanity. I also find them to be the two most boring classes.

Never use hardened rush.  Heightened rush increases the time dilation and the damage.  You will take less damage by virtue of less bullets hitting you due to the increased time dilation.  Heightened gives you a 140% damage boost while hardened is only 100%.  This is very, very powerful in conjunction with a headshot from a sniper rifle or the vindicator assault rifle, or a blast from the eviscerator shotgun.

It's not that simple. Hardened is better than Heightened when you use Revenant, Assault Rifles and maybe even Viper.
