Which is the best assault rifle available in Mass Effect 2? There are three rifles that appear "high end" weapons but I need your help in selecting the best assault rifle for my Soldier Shepard.

Revenant, Collector rifle or Geth Pulse Rifle?

Currently I'm playing  on Insanity difficulty and I'd like to maximaze the efficiency of my  weaponry. I have completed the Collectors' ship level plus Miranda, Jacob and Samara loyality missions.
The Revenant seems to offer a greater firepower but the collector assault rifle appears more efficient. It has not only a superrior accuracy but it seems to inflict more damage.

I haven't used the Geth pulse rifle yet, since I played the previous two walkthroughs on Normal and Veteran, just to focus more on story.

What  assault rifle do you suggest to use?

Thank You for your assistance, fellow Mass Effect fans.

Revenant is the best.

Well the Revenant is pretty crappy... until you get the Assault Rifle Accuracy upgrade. Then it starts hitting reliably and your DPS goes absolutely right through the roof. Really great gun, but it works at a slightly closer range than most of the other assault rifles, which gives it a much wider learning curve. It doesn't require you be AS up in the opponent's face as a shotgun requires, but if you fight at range you'll end up missing quite a bit. So when it comes to Revenant vs. Collector's AR, it's damage vs. accuracy. Geth Pulse is designed for stripping shields only, which limits it in battle, leaving it probably a better weapon for another class.

The Collector Rifle has less recoil than the Revenant.
However, it does less damage per shot, and has a lower rate of fire, meaning its dps is much less than that of the Revenant.

Rev >> Collector > GPR in my opinion.

Personally, noticing how accurate the Vindicator was (moreso after the accuracy upgrade) I never looked back. Getting headshots with it, is ridiculously easy and will drop opponents quite fast, only drawback is the ammo, though nothing game-breaking. The Revenant is also a very good choice but restricted to soldiers.

I don't really see what the big deal about the Revenant "needing" the AR Accuracy upgrade to be worthwhile. By the time you do the Collector Ship mission should be at most one AR damage upgrade away from the Accuracy upgrade.

That said, the Revenant is just strictly superior to the other ARs. The rate of fire, damage, and ammo capacity just make it a workhorse. With any kind of control you should be able to hit targets easily at moderately far distances (for anything really far away just use your Sniper rifle).

The Collector AR was pretty disappointing. It has a good rate of fire and decent accuracy, but its damage per hit is very low.

The Geth Pulse Rifle I thought was decent, though I prefer the Vindicator.

yup vindicator is too good to be given away in potentially the first mission on omega. don't get me wrong, i love me some vindicator, but by making it so accessible it makes the other rifles obsolete very early in game.

I like Revenant assault rifle. It's big and solid, so when you pull it out no-one will ask "What are you gonna do with that?", they will squeal "Oh crap!" and start running towards horizon. Revenant means business. It also sounds nice, like some big bad metal machine gun, so it's just sweet to blast anyone coming at you with it. Initially you have to get used to it's recoil as it kicks back like a mule, shoot only short bursts (if you use a long burst initially, you'll find yourself soon lying on your back, on floor, shooting at ceiling). It's powerful enough to still do good damage. Later when you upgrade it, it'll become even more sweeter.

When playing a soldier I found nothing compared to the Revenant. Its accuracy is not a concern (if you can't get 3 assault rifle upgrades before the Collector ship, you're really doing something wrong in my opinion), and its strong recoil will stop being a problem before you get to the shuttle at the end of that level.

The question of what to use is really more important when playing another class. Adepts and engineers both benefit the most from the Geth rifle. It's accurate, has a large ammo clip and its ability to strip shields and barriers in one or two bursts is invaluable on hardcore and insanity (weird how this gun's main use is on the difficulties you can acquire it, almost like they planned it that way).

As a soldier, I have found slapping on AP ammo makes the GPR quite a worker. IT has the highest rpm (I know it is variable, but i have not noticed that much difference), and ties for most rounds (with of hand pack, I'm up around 520). Also, with hardened rush you can take out a collector each rush, which is 3 seconds.

You know any character with a Vindicator can take a Collector down just as fast, right? No +damage Adrenaline Rush required.

I never mentioned the +damage rush, i was talking the -damage taken one. And what i mean is that you can take the guy out while you are in rush, 3 seconds is just the cool down. Which means, due to the time dilation, your a55 is out of cover eating lead a lot less than with other classes

Hardened Adrenaline Rush – Damage Bonus: +100.00%

But your other point is taken.

The GPR is good for giving to Legion when you're hunting Geth. Of course, between Legion and Tali, the Geth are pretty much a non-threat; even on insanity.

The upgraded sniper rifle is far more valuable than the Assault rifle. You can use the Vindicator for general combat, shotgun for close range, and the Widow for boss fights and tougher enemies. If you wanted one weapon that does everything well enough to never switch, then take the Revenant.

When you play your Soldier on Insanity, you'll soon see that there's no need for another precision long range weapon in your arsenal, when you have snipers for that. Assault Rifles come into their own at medium range, up to the range where you're close, but not close enough for a shotgun to be good. At this range, having absolute precision is not a necessity... you need to DPS as fast and reliably as possible. The Revenant makes that happen. Even without the AR accuracy upgrade, it has all the accuracy necessary for that range group. When you get the accuracy upgrade, it outright puts the Revenant as the, hands down, deadliest workhorse weapon in ME2. It does the second most burst DPS among all the AR's, and has the best sustained damage. The Vindicator is nice, but you have a 0.625 delay between bursts, a 24 round mag, and low ammo reserves. The Revenant has been shooting the whole time.

If you need a long range weapon, use a sniper. In fact, Soldier's have unique advantage with sniper rifles... Adrenaline Rush. The damage bonus is +100%. That's great if you have a Widow, and better when you use the Viper. The thing is, the Widow can only shoot once in the span of an Adrenaline Rush... but the Viper can fire through the whole thing. Soldiers get more DPS out of the Viper than the Widow.

Basically, the Revenant > other AR's. :3

For a Non-Soldier (I never play Soldier), i always use the Collector Assault Rifle.

The Avenger has the most potential damage in its ammo load out compared to all the other AR's, except the Revenant. I always picked up the Avenger on my non-Soldier classes.

I have a sentinel, and the Vindicator is perfect for the mid-long range I already play at. It basically never misses unless you miss. Plus it reminds me of Halo's BR, and I used to be a four-shotting beast with that.

Revenant for soldiers, everyone else depends on class strengths and weaknesses. For a shield/barrier debuff tool the Geth Pulse. Workhorse primary damage weapon would be the Avenger for me but Vindicator could work if you're willing to put up with constantly scavenging for thermals.

I found the vindicator to be better than shot guns at short range. When rushed by husks I would stitch across the legs, blowing them off. I know that is counter to everything one knows about fighting zombies, but it works so well. The great disadvantage is lack of ammo, but in terms of practical DPS its hard to beat.

A few tips on Revenant use:

1. Fire short bursts unless you are so close you can't miss.

2. Aim for the target's midsection. The guns muzzle will rise when you shoot. The longer you shoot, the more it rises. The less of a target you see, the shorter your bursts should be. For instance, fire very short bursts if you can only see the head and shoulders or part of the side of a target partially behind cover.

3. There are two notable exceptions to Rule 2. A head shot using a Revenant is quite possible and quite devastating if you are properly using Adrenaline rush. The second exception is, of course, husks. Use the Revenant to saw their legs off. You still aim at their midsections but pour it on.

4. Sniper rifles work well against long-range and even mid-range targets. Learn to use the sniper rifle at less-than-extreme range, particularly with disruptor ammo to peel away shields. Then kill the thing with the Revenant.

5. Be flexible in ammo use. Disruptor rounds combined with the Revenant's rate of fire will peel barriers right off. That leaves the target more vulnerable to your squadmates, which leads us to rule 6, perhaps the most important one of all.

6. A soldier with a Revenant should consider himself to be the base of fire for the TEAM, not the solo killer, IMO. For instance, he should use his gun to peel off the barriers and get through the armor of tough targets, making them easier for the other team members to kill. The Revenant has an armor-piercing multiplier of 1.5, IIRC. Also, anything or anybody getting plastered by a Revanant has a hard time concentrating fire on something else. Use your monster gun to clobber anything that has a team member trapped.

A Soldier w/ Revenant should (Excepting Hardcore and Insanity) be able to rape anything and everything with a Revenant. I have twice taken a CPB with me for the Teminator only to either take way too long or have the Revenant w/ Inferno Ammo make much faster and academic work of of the Teminator without even having to resort to any Rush.

I tried them all on my Soldier excluding Geth rifle. I do not think that there is the best. It depends on your play-style, class, and other weapons in your loadout. Vindicator is great for soldier because its precision and Soldier's andrenaline rush make lining up head shots very easy. If you tend to hang a bit back and pick baddies when this is a rifle for you.

Revenant is on a opposite end of spectrum. Accuracy is lacking but fire rate and magazine size makes it great close range weapon. Accuracy upgrade helps a lot with this weapon.

Avenger and Collector rifles fall between Vindicator and Revenant in terms of utility. Avenger feels closer to Revenant and Collector's rifle feels closer to Vidicator.

Just pick the one that fits your play-style and class. Bioware did a great job with balancing ARs.

That's a big exception there, Sora Kitano. I'd argue that there's no use learning bad habits that will get you killed in Hardcore and Insanity.

As a matter of fact, I deplored the Revenant because of its lack up accuracy. I switched back -- and got killed on Insanity level. So I went back again and learned how to shoot with the Revenant.
