A Soldier w/ Revenant should (Excepting Hardcore and Insanity) be able to rape anything and everything with a Revenant.

That's a big exception there, Sora Kitano. I'd argue that there's no use learning bad habits that will get you killed in Hardcore and Insanity.

As a matter of fact, I deplored the Revenant because of its lack up accuracy. I switched back -- and got killed on Insanity level. So I went back again and learned how to shoot with the Revenant.

I say should because Inferno and Warp ammo makes almost every fight trival and in the case of using Inferno, its just not ****ing funny against the Terminator considering that you get to destroy him with fire so much more easily than you could with a Heavy Weapon.

My four kills on the robo giant have either come from Inferno Ammo Sniper (1st and 3rd) or the Revenant (2nd and 4th)

The reason I excepted the two hard modes on here is because you cant be so damn ballsy like you can on Causal or Normal and have to have some skill with the game.

I tried them all on my Soldier excluding Geth rifle. I do not think that there is the best. It depends on your play-style, class, and other weapons in your loadout. Vindicator is great for soldier because its precision and Soldier's andrenaline rush make lining up head shots very easy. If you tend to hang a bit back and pick baddies when this is a rifle for you.

Revenant is on a opposite end of spectrum. Accuracy is lacking but fire rate and magazine size makes it great close range weapon. Accuracy upgrade helps a lot with this weapon.

Avenger and Collector rifles fall between Vindicator and Revenant in terms of utility. Avenger feels closer to Revenant and Collector's rifle feels closer to Vidicator.

Just pick the one that fits your play-style and class. Bioware did a great job with balancing ARs.

Very insightful. Indeed, what is 'best' depends on your playstyle.

In answer to the OP's point, the most balanced out of his choices is the Collector rifle. It's got a low rate of fire for an auto weapon but does respectable damage with good accuracy and ammo amount.

The Revenant is a monster, but only useful at shorter ranges even with the accuracy VI.

The Geth Rifle is a pile of turds. It basically should be a submachine gun - has an incredible rate of fire, but isn't that effective against armour and the damage it does per shot is silly. It's less than the damn Avenger.

My personal fave is the Vindicator, but only for non-soldiers. Rev for soldiers.

For Soldiers, go with the Revenant. In my opinion it's far and away the better weapon.

High damage, high rate of fire, large ammo capacity - the only drawback is the lower accuracy, but this is easily overcome (with accuracy AR upgrade) by simply burst firing at long ranges. Just tap the trigger rather than holding down at range.

My favorite weapon in the entire game.

I found that on insanity the Vindicator is king.

The Revenant is good for spray and pray, but against Geth or Collectors your out of cover for so long that you pretty much get shredded. I found in insanity the window you have for being out of cover is so minute, that spray and pray didnt help.

With the Vindicator, I could pop out, do one burst remove all shield's, and duck back in before my shields were gone.

Widow however, is king.

The Vindicator is the best if you have good aim. The Revenant is good if you like to aim your gun in the general direction of the thing you want dead and fire. The increased ammo on the Revenant makes it slightly more desirable in some situations, especially if you tend to miss with the Vindicator. I found it very satisfying to point my Revenant at the Praetorian and just fire, after the frustration of my Insanity run.

*also, I found the Geth Rifle to be unsatisfactory in any situation I tried it.

I'm playing a soldier on Hardcore at the moment and the Revenant is still incredible - it takes heavy mechs down in seconds. I never had a problem with accuracy, maybe because I had the AR Accuracy upgrade before the collector ship. You do get a feeling of having to fight to keep it aiming in one place but I like that.

Other than that, as I think has already been said, the Vindicator is the runner up. Amazing accuracy and good damage output. When I tried the Geth Pulse Rifle it seemed really weak against everything other than shields. The Avenger has really low accuracy and I never found the Collector Assault Rifle to be better than the Vindicator in any situation.

So what if you'd combine the GPR with AP Ammo? Wouldn't that eat through everything?

Btw how accurate is the GPR anyways? Haven't tried it yet.

GPR has too low base damage for AP ammo to really shine.  70/50% of weapon damage on the GPR equals to about what, like 6.29/5.55 damage before multipliers?

Banon Loire:

It's actually also quite excellent against Barriers, especially loaded with Warp Ammo.

Mercuriol:

I never found that to be a particularly compelling combination. Even with AP Ammo, the GPR does not do well against Armor. Heck, even the Tempest is better per testing. The best use for the GPR is for stripping Shield and Barrier defenses.

That's why if you got the revenant you get the hardened adrenaline rush. You can actually stay out and take quite a bit of damage then.

You don't need hardened adrenaline rush to hose things down with the Revenant, even on insanity. I took heightened and it was fine (and I'm an aggressive player who likes to push up and flank).

Vindicator would be a decent choice if it wasn't so ammo inefficient. As it is, it lacks the raw power of the Revenant and is inferior to the sniper rifles at longer ranges, while suffering from the same ammo problems.

It's not a question of aim, I have excellent aim, and even in battles where all my shots were adrenaline rush headshots, I found myself running low with the vindicator.

Also, the damage numbers for the Geth Pulse Rifle are wrong.  It inherits from the avenger, meaning the base damage per shot is the same.  It's basically the avenger with a higher ROF and more reserve ammo.

Can you provide a source for this info?

In game testing. Changing the assault rifle's damage value in coalesced.ini also changes the GPR. Whoever posted the GPR numbers at gamefaqs just assumed that it inherited from the base weapon entry (it doesn't actually have a damage value in the ini), but it doesn't.

I'm suprised about this. You would have thought a weapon firing at a RoF of 1000 with the Avenger's damage per shot would have been instantly evident in terms of gameplay.

If I understand that correctly, the damage output should be rivalling the Revenant, and I certainly don't remember it being *that* effective.

The Avenger's ROF is 850 which isn't that far away from the GPR, and the magazine size for both weapons is the same, so some of the advantage of the higher ROF is lost because the GPR burns through a magazine quicker.

It accords with my experience at least, the GPR is a mild improvement over the avenger, but nothing earthshattering.

I either use Collector or Vindicator and get Widow for tougher enemies.

In my experience, the Geth Rifle exceeds both the Avenger and the Vindicator in Barrier and Shield stripping capabilities, but is decidedly weaker in terms of penetrating Armor and whittling down Health. This is easy to test, since the Vindicator fires a burst shot. Simply fire a burst from the Vindicator and mark where the vs. Shield or vs. Barrier damage is, then perform a benchmark against the same enemy in the same battle, with the same mods using a Geth Pulse Rifle - the Pulse Rifle strips defenses incredibly fast with Disruptor Ammo.

I don't see why people say the GPR is good versus Shields/Barriers. Every time I use it I still need to empty an entire magazine into a Geth Hunter to drop it, reminds me of ME1.

I never bothered with Revenant.  I like head shots too much.  Widow all the way.  You can snipe off a Heavy Mechs head and he goes nuclear and takes out the other Heavy Mech.  Also when your Sniping your mostly 1 shoting everything in HAR.  You spend 1 second tops out of cover and you actually kill something and you wait for cooldown.  Because Widow was way better than most heavy weapons, I used the flamethrower through most of my insanity run.

As a soldier, I found the best setup (for me) was the vindicator AR and Widow sniper rifle. Used with armor piercing and disruptor bullets and adreneline rush, it makes for a very deadly combo.

I found the revenant to be too inaccurate even with the accuracy upgrade. Went back from an earlier save and found the vindicator dealt better dps (again, adrenaline rush ensures all 3 bullets are headshots). however, the teammates seem to wield the geth rifle more efficiently than the vindicator imo.

I'd hate to sound elitist, but the people here complaining that the Revenant with the AR accuracy upgrade is still inaccurate suck at aiming and recoil control.

The Revenant already beats most heavy weapons when it comes to damage output. With the accuracy upgrade, it's as accurate as the Avenger pre-accuracy upgrade, which is pretty damn accurate. The Vindicator is nice, but it has too small of a magazine and too little ammo -- keep telling yourself you'll never run out, because you will in parts of the game that are actually difficult. Also, the Widow is nice and all... but who cares if you one shot trash mobs? The Revenant is far more of a DPS workhorse -- and for soldiers, the Viper ends up being better than the Widow anyways, since adrenaline rush increases DPS by 100%, and the Viper doesn't need to reload after every shot -- that's 1 shot per second for 5 seconds of Viper fire at 100% DPS. It beats the Widow... at least for Soldiers.

It is comparative. Compared to a Vindicator, assuming you're landing equivalently accurate shots, the Geth Rifle does more damage over time to Shields. Since a Geth Hunter has more than just Shields, it evens out, more or less, unless you use some other weapon for the Health portion of the Hunter's HP.

Generally speaking, the Geth Rifle is bad enough at depleting Health that if you're not going to switch weapons out for that portion of the target's HP, you may be better off with a Vindicator.

The Geth Pulse Rifle is not a very good weapon. It gets a x1.35 damage modifier to shields, compared to the Avenger's and Vindicator's 1.25, which is negligible... especially considering that the GPR does about 5 damage per shot, compared to the Avenger's 10. In order the the GPR to equal out DPS with the Avenger, it'd have to have a firing rate of 1700... and it doesn't. The Avenger is better at eliminating defenses than the GPR... and the Avenger also has more damage per ammo load out than the Vindicator. The Avenger is, IMO, the best non-DLC AR until you can get the Revenant. The Collector AR is pretty good too.
