Revenant is out of the question imo, seriously why would you not get widow if you can? Vindicator is the best AR imo. If you have ammo problems go with collectors. If your not soldier though you should always use vindicator since you have a smg anyway.

The Geth Pulse Rifle is found inside Tali's room on Hardcore and Insanity. I heard you can change the difficulty level before landing, if you don't want to play on hardcore the entire game.

The Collector Assault rifle is obtained with a Mass Effect 2 collector edition.

Revenant+Viper is all I need. Viper with Heightened to kill far away enemies or if you want to play it safe, and Revenant for going in their faces.
Grunts loyalty mission or the derelict Reaper were so much fun with the Revenant.
It's ridiculous how fast the Revenant takes out armor with AP ammo.
Going head to head against Scions and the Thresher and just unloading the ungodly amount of damage per clip is great.

Actually you can go Rambo against Scions and they get blown to pieces in one clip. Use HAR and just unload the whole clip even after HAR wears of.

And you can get 6 damage upgrades for ARs with Zaeeds DLC. That makes the Widow look really bad.

Looy:

My apologies. I did not perform the test on your settings because the change up of weapons was too inconvenient. Dannok1234's setting proved to be more convenient so I adopted those settings as well.

Dannok1234:

First off, fantastic test location. The subjects were close up and controlled, and their movement and numbers are easily predictable and repeatable. I repeated the test several times just to be sure.

I thank you and Looy for your efforts. My replication of your test has convinced me that I was in the wrong previously. Assuming the Vindicator rounds hit, one burst is sufficient to take down between 40 and 50 percent of the target Barriers. If all shots are headshots, the Barrier goes down with one burst. I repeated that particular result many times by waiting for the subject to be stationary for the sure multiple headshot.

I suspect that my results in the Blue Suns test were skewed because I could not tell that my shots were missing. Amazingly enough, I missed 3 consecutively bursts with the Vindicator at the Ilium test range when the subjects were in motion. Apparently, I am not a very good shot. ;)

I probably missed just as much on average with the Geth Pulse Rifle, but with ammo not in shortage and a continuous auto-fire, I got an averaged result - average damage as opposed to the occasional no damage at all with a complete miss on the Vindicator.

Even so, I'm still unsure as to which gun I'll take with me - my close-range results on the test proved, if nothing else, that I'm a terrible shot. I like the Revenant and the Tempest guns very much and the Pulse Rifle performs most similarly to those guns.

Happy to be of help, in the end I think that you can pretty much use whichever weapon you prefer and it will be fine. I've been harping on and on about how all the shotguns are all equal(or so close it makes no difference), and I personally keep on swapping between Tempest/shuriken and Carnifex and the other pistol. It's not just about the damage you do, but how you like the feel of the different weapons.

But always good to make decisions based on correct data.

While I agree that the Vindicator is really the only option for classes that have both SMGs and ARs, the Revenant is, nonetheless, the better choice for most soldiers. Taking a Vindicator would leave them without any automatic weapons which wouldn't work well with things like Varren and Husks.

The Widow is a nice rifle if you're a die-hard sniper, but if you want something that is both long range and flexible, the Viper is the superior option. What it loses in damage it more than makes up for in it's staying power (i.e. you're not frantically scrounging for ammo all the time and every shot missed is not necessarily a disaster).
