Yes but its only give you the choice of doing it. They arnt making you use your dead warden. They are just saying "hey if you want to use your dead warden go ahead"

That was my first thought as well but from subsequent discussion it appears they actually aren't just doing this. We will be unable to import a game where we made the ultimate sacrifice and have the decisions made in that game carry over and start with the new Orlesian Grey Warden.

If you choose to start with the Orlesian Grey Warden you essentially start with a clean slate, with the canonical choices Bioware want to carry over.

I actually find it almost mind boggling that Bioware are doing this.

well maybe people complain, cause they hope the delvoplers will listen to what the people say, and make improvements, for example better lighting in the character creator. Though honestly I've been having trouble understanding your comment iwth all your cursing. But you know why we'll buy it anyway, because we hardcore fans, and even though some of us may cry/whine about a game, in the end, we like it, or else we wouldn't be complaining about it in the bioware forum/ be in the forums in the first place. Though yeah, plus B)*%^ching for some of us, is just a verson of how we make suggestions, since we mad, about what ever we don't like. Hardcore fans make hardcore suggestion. And please clean up the language. no one understands you when you're text is all like this

mother feet fungus lol

I wasn't that bad iwth lanuage in my forum, to the extent you're doing. But anyway yeah whatever

First post here on the site, was going to make a topic similar to this, so might as well put my thoughts here.

First and foremost, if the lack of romances is enough to make you change your purchase, then I have to question you. Dragon Age isn't a dating sim, it's a deep RPG, and I have total confidence in Bioware to make the characters growth just as amazing without romance as they would with it. Would it be nice? Well, yeah, sure. But this is an expansion on things that already exist, not a new game. No one has said you can't sleep around either, so don't cry too hard, I think when they say "no new romances" they mean no big deal about dating a party member. I'd bet money that you'll be able to have a fling.

No DLC transfer. Well, considering how theres going to be a horde of new goodies, does it honestly matter? Think this one through, please. I wouldn't be shocked if right out the gate you get a ton of new equipment. Then, on the topic of DLC stories carrying over, do you really expect them to throw in mention of things people who may not have the DLC would know next to nothing about? This is more in reference to Shale. I would think that Soldier's Peak would at least be mentioned if it's not completely avoided, that could be done as simply as someone making a statement that depends on weather you partook in the DLC quest or not.

One more thing, people complaining about the "warden sacrifice" continued game. If you actually want to continue a game with your dead character, it seems to me like you're the one to blame. Also, I believe you can create a new Warden and transfer the choices...which would be the obvious choice for those who made the sacrifice.

Overall, I think Awakening will deliver. People will complain one way or another, but be of good cheer, the sky is NOT falling, regardless what you think after reading a simple FAQ.

Personally, when I am critical of DA it is out of concern -- the type of concern that one experiences for something they care deeply about. The matter for concern varies, but know this: I refuse to turn a blind eye to the flaws in this or any game; they ARE present, whether or not I choose to remind myself of them.

What Dragon Age does well, it does exceptionally well -- the best, even -- but there are particular aspects and mechanics that are sorely lacking in their implementation, especially on the console versions of the game. Straightforward, constructive criticism is a valued resource to any successful development team, and for as long as I care about their product I am committed to seeing that this type of feedback is consistently and continually thrust upon them by the barrel load.

Amen.

(See? It's all about caring.)

Suggest you read my previous post, 2 above yours. When you start with the new Orlesian Grey Warden YOU CANNOT IMPORT THE CHOICES FROM A GAME WHERE YOU MAKE THE ULTIMATE SACRIFICE. You start with a clean slate, the choice Bioware regard as canonical.

Its not about continuing the game with a dead character at all.

All of the other items can be transferred over. Either Bioware couldn't make sense of their own copy protection or they just didn't bother. At the very least, it raised the possibility that Bioware cut as many corners as they could and botched the expansion so they could release it as soon as possible.

That is the underlying point of the US ending import, from the info we have they are NOT including that as an option. It may or may not be an option, clarification on this would be really nice.

As for the romance thing for a pretty large portion of players it is a large part of why they are able to immerse themselves int othe world's of bioware stories. No it is not needed, but it can add levels of depth to character development that simple friendships with npcs doesn't.

About the romance thing. As it was (for some, large) part of the original game, having it NOT continue in the expansion breaks the immersion and feels stupid. I mean come on, if you find your True Love™ (or whatever) who promises to Be With You. Then three months later you're alone in a new adventure and she is nowhere to be seen or heard.

Probably not so much with Morrigan, but at least with Leliana that is pretty story-breaking.

This seems like senseless finger pointing if you ask me.  It seems FAR more likely that EA would be the one rushing, not Bioware.  Seems to me like some of the items just would have been more of a pain to go through formatting for the xp, and they decided to just make new badass replacements.  If item transfer is that big of a deal, well, I guess thats just not my cup of tea.

Well, even if they didn't do the new Warden, same choices option, I highly doubt Bioware, of all people will come up with something as sad as "and you lived...because...oh we don't know, just continue the journey."  They'd likely have a new ending, where Riordan kills the Archdemon and you continue from that point.  I will, say, the omitting of a logical "new warden, same choices" option is in definate need of explanation.

On to romance, we won't really know if it works well without the romantic interest scenarios until we play the game ourselves.  I have enough confidence in the writers to not have to rely on romance angles just to get depth in a story.

Seriously, I come on this forum to discuss my AW builds, and just look for stuff that has eluded my attention, but lately Ive started frequenting the XP forum.  Everyone ****es about the smallest things, yet most all are going to end up buying the XP.  Why?  Because even if it is half as good as DAO it will be worth it.

Honestly, the price is a bit steep if it isnt a full-fledge game, but considering its an XP to DAO Ill fork it over.  Ive replayed DAO like 4 times now, and each time is still as fun as the first (well, except for the crashes and stuff).  But I think even asserting that the game has plenty of crashes, yet I still played it 4 times should say something.

What makes DAO great?  Is it romances/the length/etc?  Well, partially.  But Ive gone play-throughs where I didnt have a romance.  Ive played ones where I rushed past certain parts.  The game was still enjoyable.

The thing I am against is the DLC, those seem like a rip-off.  But a XP is not just one zone and 3 items.  An XP (and I assume this will be yet another great from Bio-ware) is a story that takes you at least a good while to go through.  Having your characters develop, both story wise and mechanics wise.  People are just looking at the wrong parts of a good game; nothing is perfect, but that doesnt mean its not better than the rest.

But if Morrigan, Leliana and the romances are by far my most favourite things in DA:O and aren't in this game, why should I buy it?

And to further what other people have said; people are complaining because they care about this series.  They wouldn't be taking time out of their day to post their concerns about it if they didn't.

I'm just not sure that being unable to import a dead Warden's decisions to the new Orlesian warden really matters much. I mean, I'd imagine that they'll probably assume the first Warden made the ultimate sacrifice if you play the Orlesian.

Why? Well, DA:O is required to play the XP, so it's not like they're selling it to people who haven't played the game. That means that most people who play the Orlesian will be players who made the ultimate sacrifice. So that means they'd be kind of dumb not to assume that as the canon ending going into the Orlesian's story.

As for the rest of your choices, the only ones that are likely to matter are the big ones--who's on the throne, who survived, maybe the dead warden's race, class, and gender. It's unlikely, for example, that Shianni would come up to the Orlesian Warden and say "hey, remember that time I was helped out in the Alienage by that other dead guy? I know you were still in Orlais, but it was pretty awesome." It's not likely to matter how you handled the Alienage much, then, for example.

I wouldn't be surprised if they don't just quiz you for the (few) choices that matter. Y'know, have someone say "I remember the coronation" and give you as options "I heard Anora looked lovely" or "Gee, that King Alistair sure is a bad-ass" or something. That's how Obsidian handled KOTOR 2. It would probably work well enough again for a brand-new character.

The point is, we don't really know how well (or badly) BioWare will handle the story when you choose the Orlesian. It's a little early to start freaking out now.

Because maybe what you consider the "smallest things" are "big things" for someone else? A whole metric ton of someone elses, it seems.

I actually think that the reason they left out romances is to flesh out the plot more, think about it romances take up alot of time with voice acting costs and everything and that deviates away from fleshing out the main story,

we shall see what bioware comes up with...

Just because one/some aspects of the game aren't your cup of tea, others might/will feel different. What is a small thing for some, is huge for others. I play because of developing relationships, interpersonal developments, etc, etc.

So it's simple math for me really. Don't like = don't buy. I never buy anything because of its label, I buy things because of its content(s). Especially when hitched up with a price tag such as this, I am really careful. I'll wait and see, and I might or might not buy later, when the price tag is (much) lower.

I don't have all the BioWare games, just because it's BioWare. I happily passed on those I didn't like, based on consumer and professional reviews. I do have those that appeal to me.

Morrowind/Oblivion are solo-run games, and even there, the modding community fixed that up quickly and efficiently. The companion mods for both are quite popular, might I add, especially romanceable companions.

The FAQ says no new romances. A dev posted somewhere that the old ones stay in effect - or something like that. You're just apart for the duration, with the possible exception of a few cameos.

I don't remember where the 'allies can have relationships' came about, but somewhere around here, that's said. (I gather that something like new mages can have a romance, but not your pc)

Awakening is apparently incompatible with Origins' DLC, the romances aren't developed further and the value of the Warden's sacrifice is reduced to nothing. On their own, none of those things are much of a problem, but together, and with an expansion coming out less than 5 months after the game, that adds up to a lot of red flags. I'm inclined to believe that someone somewhere got lazy.

Or ..could be something else.   At first I thought to myself, isn't this a trilogy or supposed to be?   But I had to go look at the definition of trilogy.

A trilogy can be either one long story joined together, or three separate stories connected together.

So maybe they are creating a trilogy of the latter kind...therefore disconnecting from everything that happened in Origins.

OR maybe they ran into more technical difficulties, and this was the only way to solve it.     Still ..the Ultimate Sacrifice and Dark Ritual...meanings got thrown out with the bath water when this course of action was chosen.

So if on average ..a person ..say like me who even after 12 run-throughs still takes about 80 hours to complete each one,  there's 160 hours where I accomplished nothing in the game, because its been invalidated by these new decisions.
