In ME1 you kept all your skill points, money, and equipment. What transfers in ME2 if I start a new game with the guy I won with?

Yeah, the guy I beat ME2 with. Restarting a new game using him. So all my research upgrades are gone? I was hoping you didnt have to mine the second time through

NG+ or a new character? If its NG+ you start the game with 50,000 in each resource, 200,000 credits and whatever way you customised your armour on your last playthrough (same tints, colours, patterns and same gear so if you have the Visor, Capacitor Chest Plate etc you start with that.

You also keep all of your weapons but you can't equip them until you reach a Weapons Locker. The first Weapon Locker is on board the Normandy so you have to do Cerberus Station and Freedom's Progress using starter weapons.

You must research all upgrades again however but you get certain bonuses like +25% experience so if you haven't hit level 30 yet you will do so very quickly. I haven't played far enough in NG+ yet but I heard that Paragon/Renegade checks are much harder and its more difficult to max out Paragon/Renegade bars. Apparently, some checks are nearly impossible now making it more difficult to get full squad loyalty.

If I have the revenant AR, do I get to pick another weapon or do I have to trade it out?

No, 1 weapon upgrade per Shepard. one of 2 reasons I don't do NG+... No new weapon, and I'm always level 30 when I finish, so the second playthrough just feels pointless.

NG+ is pretty useless in ME2.

If you start a new game based on your ME2 lvl 30 char, which itself was based on a lvl 60 ME1 char:
You get 200k Money and 50k of each resource. You keep your armor, some weapons and your ME1 decisions. But you don't get any extra ME1 bonuses. Also you don't keep your upgrades, while the enemies are balanced from the start, like you had those, making NG+ incredible hard in the beginning.

If on the other side, you would just start a second game based again on your lvl 60 ME1 char:
You would get 350k Money (ME2 + ME1 bonus), 60k of each resource, 190 Paragon and Renegade points and nice balanced enemies.

I find it much more enjoyable to just load a specific save and play a mission again. Modify the savegame files to have different classes or squadmates is also fun :-)

Along with this, I'm wondering if anyone knows if I can start a second playthrough by importing my ME1 shep AGAIN....can I change his name, class, etc, without it affecting my first ME1 shep playthrough again?

I've imported the same ME1 Shep 5 or 6 times now. You get all of the benefits, and you can change the class and face to whatever you want. You can't change the name or profile information (i.e. Earthborn) though.

Still, you can just keep importing that character as much as you want to. Just remember that your ME1 choices will always stay static.

Yep, works like a champ. You also get the same NG+ starter bonuses. (but you DON"T get the import bonuses after the first time).

Thx for the reply Stoik...wondering then, does each replay overwrite the preceeding one?

No, you just get multiple listings of the same named shepard in the career list.

Yep, so try and remember the date each character was created on or importing into ME3 will be a pain in the ass.

I have 3 seperate Vanguards, a Soldier, and a Sentinel all named Chris Shepard. This is going to be confusing. I should probably delete my first VG...

the drawback to NG+ is like someone said, the paragon/renegade bonus you get for importing your me1 shep is lost, you start with zip, making it much harder to do the difficult alignment checks, especially as they are on ship so no helmet/armour bonus. the earlier you do those checks the more likely you will pass them, so do jack and mirandas loyalty early. if you want legion/tali both loyal then you'll most likely have to sacrifice crew.
