Insanity is definitely challenging, but if you've made it to the collector base, you're already past the hard part in my opinion. In my opinion, as an adept, the derelict reaper was the most intense mission. Husk rushes, crappy cover options and Scions around every corner make me a sad panda.

Since most people answered OP's question, allow me to dip into ME1 insanity.

(ME2 insanity isn't hard anyways besides a couple fights.)

Without immunity, actually a lot of stuff one shots you and your teammate if you start with a new level 1 character, named enemy can literally drop your shield and bring to down to the last slip of your health with 2-3 shots. And most stuff takes forever to bring down until you get weapons that shows up around level 20. But once you get to around 20+ it became cake walk again.

Thank you for all your help from the Mass effect 2 Community.

My current class is Vanguard.

The weapon I am using is the Geth gun with Warp Ammo.

My specially thanks to keginkc

I will try your method

I beat this with a vanguard on insanity.  My main problem was  my squad wouldnt stay alive.  I used miranda for the squad boost stats and Grunt because he is a tank.  I also took a long distance heavy weapon for the scions.  Harbringer  likes to close in on shepard so I usually wait a little bit and charge the collector in behind him take care of him and then turn around and flank harbringer.  while the other platform is coming in  start taking out the scion.  I did good with the beam cannon and the flame thrower but most people will probably say the beam cannon  I would change your warp ammo to either barrier or area reave like someone else said.  Inferno ammo is also good against armor so no need for warp ammo. also charge if you barrier is low.  if he isnt close to dying start backing up while firing.  some tips on charging.  you can charge someone even if their defense is up and still take them out granted if they are alone.  if there are two people take down the defenses of one and charge that enemy which will knock him back.  while he is flying  turn and kill the enemy with his defenses still up ( a good combo is charge shoot melee shoot and that should kill him)  by the time you kill him the other enemy should just be getting up or your squad already got him.  Shockwave is also useful for knocking people out of cover even with their defenses up they stumble just enough to lay some good damage.  You may not kill him  but something is better than nothing. Vangaurds focus on offense. hope this helps.

have two team mates stay behind the middle barrier (the one you are behind at the start), and you stay behind the right barrier on the first platform. (this keeps them from getting hit by the scions' bull**** blast)

focus fire 1 collector to death quickly, then turn your attention to the scion on the right and focus fire on it. when you hear 'ASSUMING CONTROL/DIRECT INTERVENTION/ETC.', focus on harbinger. he has a way of knocking you out of cover so you can get destroyed before you even have a chance to get back to cover. this happened to me when i had rank 4 assault armor + shield upgrades as a sentinel. not often, but often enough.

used garrus (loyal) + tali (not loyal at the time, ****ing TIM always forces you to the ship right as you get her mission). i'm more defensive minded, so i like her combat drone. first 2 times they died too much, next 2 times i died first, last time, did it perfectly and didnt have to use a single medi gel. also, didn't use any heavy weapons, as i saved it for the second part.

Insanity + Adept = rape. Still doable, though. You just have to bring the right crew members and upgrade the weapons + powers you most use.

Haha. I almost started the same topic. I went from "Normal" to "Insanity", and Freedom's Progress scared the crap outta me.

I'm not looking forward to the Collector Ship. Luckily, I play soldier and have the shell of a plan.

Well, Like I said, the reason I am stuck now because I am playing the 360 version. I can't go back to the ship and change my extra ability because I was save by the checkpoint. I am really ****ed. You know.

But thank you for all your help. I might need to start all over again.

I have been going through my insanity playthrough, a fresh start on Insanity. The NG+ was too insane for me. It was hard at first, but once you gain a few levels, get some researching on weapons and specials done, it starts getting easier. About when I got to the Collector ship, is when I started getting used to the game and every fight wasn't difficult.

One tactic I have been using is to not trigger the next phase of the story until I have researched everything I have come across.

Focus on your companion's special moves, one at a time. Miranda is great for taking down defenses so you can finish them off, as long as you can get her to take cover. Mordin and Grunt vs Krogan and Vorcha. Garrus (and Zaeed) vs Mercs. Develop all you team members to fill a spot on YOUR team.

Collector Ship was tricky, but doable if you've got the right team. Try Miranda and Grunt.

Well it's called Insanity for a reason.

I for one stay on Veteran, I want to keep my hair on my head.

Already bald but it's definitely hard as he!! IMO.

I  think a lot of my frustration stems from how difficult insanity is on ME2 compared to ME1.  It's night and day.  Insanity on ME1 is pretty much.. veteran difficulty on ME2 IMO.

Just wanted to say thank you for you all.

I restarted my new game + for insanity by imported my normal playthrought character.

I got say for you all told me about Area Reave. It works like charm. Now the game is easier because of that ability. Thank you.

Hopfully, I can finish the insanity this time.

Tips from me also, Always save your games on the ship before any big better if you play the xbox 360 verison because the check point will screw your save some time.

Ok. I recently completed an insanity playthrough with an Infiltrator. I tried before with a lvl 30 engineer through new game+ and I think that's what did me in. Even having all my skills maxed out none of my upgrades or weapons were available until they were rediscovered. Simply importing a lvl 60 ME1 character and starting at lvl 5 was the way to go. It got challenging at times but overall it wasn't anywhere near as difficult as trying to beat it with a lvl 30 new game+ character. Maybe others preferred a lvl 30 new game + playthrough but for me, starting from scratch was the way to go.

Maybe someone mentioned it (not read the whole thread) but since Kasumi DLC Harbinger's drone is not a threat at all. Just spam Kasumi's Improved Flashbang Grenade on him everytime it is usable, and he will not do anything but moving, even if he stand right beside you! Literally. Kasumi's Flasbang Grenade works like Dampening in ME1 and Harbinger's Drone use only biotics, so he will be turned off. Then kill the other Collectors, finish up the Harbinger's drone. Easy.

It's called "achievement" for a reason. It wouldn't be much of a "badge of honor" as you call it if everyone who sucked at the game could just breeze through it. I don't get your logic.

Personally, I think insanity is extremely well done in ME2. It's the most fun I've had playing the hardest difficulty in a game since Resident evil 4.

Oh, and you do know that Harbinger knocking you out of cover is actually an ability of his, right? It's not a bug... An ability that is completely avoidable and predictable.

Insanity with adept is very easy once you get wide singularity.

I just finished my Insanity playthrough on xbox 360. In conclusion: I loved it! (And hated it too some times). I was an infiltrator (gotta love the tactical cloak!) and used Miranda/Garrus/Grunt as my mates. For me, the Geth Hunters were the pain in the ass. Scions were actually quite easy, if you headshot them in the right time. I had finished ME2 with lower difficulties 2 times before Insanity and I always hated the Derelict Reaper part the most, but at Insanity I flew through it. Maybe I just got better at playing, since playing at Insanity is a massive training also. I couldn't imagine now playing lower difficulties. Strongly reccommended for hardcore gamers. It grows on you.

Yeah.  the difference between ME1 and ME2 insanity difficulty is night and day.  When I was playing an engineer insanity playthrough on ME1 one more time before ME2 came out my roommate was watching me play and laughed a bit at how I was playing that class more like a soldier in that I was popping a few powers and charged ahead and started melee bashing enemies for the fun of it instead of staying behind cover.  No way I can pull off that kind of stunt in ME2 against more than a couple enemies.

I really fell in love with the are projector my past couple playthroughs.  I used to carry the Cain all the time but being limited to two shots at the very most (usually just enough power for one shot) though spectacular when used is very limited.  The arc projector though limited against heavy units like Scions and such is awesome against infantry type units.  It's almost too good a weapon.

Don't give up, if I can do you you can to.  I am not a great tactical player by any means.  You will get a lot of good advice on classes and team mates and weapons in this thread.  The bonus ability I chose for my character was 'domination' and that worked well for me throughout insanity.

Same here, I find the Arc Projector excellent for softening up groups of enemies. zap zap zap mopup.

Cain is great for massive hurt on a single target, but those targets are few and far between and in most circumstances can be whittled down with bug bites.  Arc Projector is more usable for taking out swarms of little guys who would otherwise overwhem you through sheer volume..

Insanity NG+ where you start Freedom's Progress

at level 30, is hilariously insane!

Quite the lovable mode. As an adept on mordin's recruitment,

I just about died laughing at the battle scenarios. You make a

tactical error and you, or your squad dies. Personally, I found

myself using all squadmate, and my powers on cooldown.

Seemed perfect to me. I still enjoy hardcore as it gives

you more leeway when choosing your squad. That allows

you to do things like use powers to create nice music/squad

vocalization sequences. Something that is certainly not

possible for me on level 30 NG+ insanity.

But insanity mode is too hilarious to miss. Well done developers!
