I pick pocketed some unlucky charm off the inn keeper from the princess inn outside the mages tower.....

Is it just some trash item, or does it have some use?

As far as we know, the unlucky charm does nothing other than scare you. I have run around fo 20 levels now and nothing bad happened.

I think it reduces your chance of success with pickpocketing, but that's about it.
