So after playing ME2, I realized that a lot of the characters seemed awfully like characters from Dragon Age. Observe.
Grunt and Shale- Both are big and burly
Both are following you so he/she can find things to crush
Joker and Alistair- They only give 2 kinds of comments: whining about certain peril or delivering a witty quip
Both are completely useless in a fight.
Zaeed and Sten- Doesn't really know what you're doing, but has nothing better to do.
Both are complete badasses.
Thane and Zevran- Both believe they don't have much longer to live.
Both seduce your female characters
No brainer, they're both assassins.
Samara and Wynn- Old wise mystic chick
They're too old to wanna hook up with you
They both have, as Zevran would say, "impressive bosoms" especially considering their age
Tali and Leliana- Hot foreign accent
Left their new home to join up with you
Smokin hot
Dr. Chakwas and Oghren- Raging alcoholics
Legion and Dog- Obsessed with you- Seriously, I'm pretty sure Legion would sleep at the foot of Shepard's bed
Saren and Loghain- Once beloved hero
Betrayed the king/council
Disillusioned into thinking he is actually working to save the kingdom/universe
These last two characters are so similar I think that one is the distant anscestor of the other
Jack and Morrigan- Complete ****es
Mind blowingly powerful
Loners- Really really ****ing hate all other people
Easy to score with
Show a ridiculous amount of their boobs
Anyone got anyting to add?
Mass Effect and Dragon Age similarities

I definitely felt some similarities with Samara/Wynn, Jack/Morrigan, and Saren/Loghain. The others you listed are kind of a stretch, though.

Hey, let's overly simplify the characters of every game ever made to see how every single freakin' one of them is exaclty the same. That would be fun. Or not.
If all you do is simplify the characters down to what archetype they are, then you will inevitably see similarities. The important thing isn't whether a character can be reduced until you can force it into an archetypal mold. The important thing is the details that flesh out the character. If you think the fleshing out is lacking, that would be a good place to elaborate. As it is, I find the comparisons between the two games lacking.

They aren't similar enough. I just got Dragon Age: Origins, and it seems to lack a lot of the polish that both Mass Effect games have.

the only time I thought of DA when I was playing ME2 was when one of the survivors mentioned Sten and Liliana.

Um.. I wrote this as a joke. Not that funny, I know, but you don't have to take it seriously. I do believe DA and ME2 are vastly differently, as are their characters. But I thought it was funny how Jack and Morrigan were kinda similar and I just branched off from there.

dragon age wasnt very fun for me at all. i didnt see any similarities in the 6ish hours i ran around mordor or whatever its called. i thought a mage would be like an adept, but it wasnt. it was stupid. i had no idea what my spells were or what the did, i just spammed them all untill the battle was over with. i never even died while playing tho which was weird. the only thing i did like was running around in my underwear with morrigan. thats probably the only thing ill ever remember from dragon age. compared to ME, which i remember almost every line of dialogue, i didnt see many similarities. besides it having that bioware stentch to it.

Dragon Age sucked me in for a month. I played three games in quick succession and now I can't get any interest in it at all. Oh well 150 hours is more than enough for me.
