Just like the title asks. Which should I use? I was thinking a shield boost power but what do the forums think? This will be my first insanity run. I have completed the game twice on hardcore, once with an Infiltrator and the other with a Sentinel. I found hardcore to be rediculously easy in some parts and insanely hard in others. I just never felt a very big challenge though. I got rocked quite a bit on my Vanguard when I played on Veteran. But that could be because it was my first character. So what do you guys think?

Geth shield boost is probably a good one to start the game with. I found it got me through that stupidly hard fight against the first YMIR mech you encounter. Later on I ditched it though, and started switching between reave, energy drain, warp ammo and neural shock, depending on what I was fighting.

I think most people would say reave.

You have tiny shields yet a huge health bar. This means your health bar is going to be exposed more so there will always be something to heal. plus i think your class skill gives a duration boost.

Soldiers do not need a shield booster on Insanity. Take up an Ammo Power and have fun... Soldiers are the easiest run through on Insanity. Hardened Adrenaline Rush will serve you just fine. If you *really* want a shield skill though, Geth Shield Boost is the way to go IMO.

Hmm, thanks man. I'll have to try that out. I misclicked when making my guy and chose the warp ammo. Image IPB The first YMIR mech was hell. I can't wait to pick up Mordin.

Edit: Reave sounds good I guess. I liked it on my Sentinel. But didn't use it as much as I think I should have.

Geth Shield Boost is quite good if you're starting a fresh character. However, if you're doing an import, there are plenty of other good options. My two favorite are, unquestionably, Warp Ammo and Armor Piercing Ammo. You should almost always have AP over Warp Ammo, and here's why:

The game can essentially be played in sections. For the first three missions leading up to the fight at Horizon, you will be fighting either Blue Suns, Mechs, or Blood Pack enemies more or less exclusively. This means you already have Disruptor Ammo to deal with the Mechs and Blue Suns, and Armor Piercing to destroy the Blood Pack. Heavy Warp Ammo is a whole 20% weaker than Tungsten, so as you won't be seeing any barriers, the choice is clear. Finish off your first three recruitments and head for Horizon, and while you're on the way to Horizon, swap out AP for Warp to deal with the collectors.

Then clear all loyalty and second-wave recruitments with barrier focused enemies (read: everything on Ilium), and possibly Tali's mission using your Disruptor Ammo. Then stomp the Collector Cruiser mission with your Warp Ammo, and polish off any remaining side missions or loyalties you wish to do, leaving the loyalty missions of Jack, Mordin, and Grunt for last, at which point you switch back to AP Ammo to deal with the horde of enemies presenting only Armor for protection.

Your AP Ammo will save you a ton of grief on the Derelict Reaper as opposed to Warp, I can't even describe how much of a difference it is.

Go use your Disruptor and stomp Legion's loyalty, then go on through the portal with Warp and finish the game. Note: if you feel that you can stomp Collectors easily enough without the warp ammo, keep your AP as it makes it easier to speed-kill the Human Reaper and ensure your team survives.

That's just my take. Yeah, Warp Ammo is one of the best all-around powers. But since you can switch almost as many times as you want, don't forget about the massive damage boost that AP can provide you.

Question, why is the first YMIR mech a problem for any class? Just run around one of the obstacles. He's so big you can shoot above it and hit him while he can't hit you.

I used

Hardened Adrenaline Rush
Heavy Disruptor Ammo
Inferno ammo
Shock Trooper
Heavy Reave

I had 1 point in Concussive Shot, never used it
I never really used Reave either, so Sheilds or some kind of defensive skill would prolly have been better in my case, as I could pop it and have it last for awhile.

When I started my lvl 30 import I screwed up my stats so bad lol I wasn't paying any attention. So I used Warp Ammo until Horizen when I could then use the research to redistribute my points.

But this set up fits more my playstyle
