I don't understand how you even could have thought this was a good idea.

If redoing the armours is out of the question, how about allowing us to wear casual gear in the non-combat zones/non mission areas? (I. E. the main area of the Citadel, Omega etc.)

Been mildly annoyed by this myself. I end up only using N7 armour with one of the visors because everything else looks silly. Having a conversation with Aria or kissing Liara while wearing a helmet looks very stupid in a game that's otherwise very well thought-through in the visual department.

I think this is the reason why I have a problem taking the 'we'd lose the art style if we designed them seperately' argument seriously. Ultimately *someone* must have pointed out some time in development that we end up drinking and kissing through metal plates using the procedure.
More to the point, they somehow managed to dodge the issue with N7 armour. The art style on that looked just fine (particularly with desert camo...).

Oh, I don't doubt that there are technical issues that make it non-trivial to change the specialized armours into a more modular model. However, I don't really see any reason (aside from the extra work) why they could not simply have two models, one with helmet and one without.JaegerBane wrote...

And yeah, I agree that it sounds strange that they did not think of how this would impact the social interaction sections of the game. It's one of those things that really ruins the sense of suspension of disbelief.

I know this won't happen, especially with free DLC, but when the time comes to pay for DLC, wouldn't the best way to really voice your displeasure with the perma-helms be to not download the DLC? I also really dislike taking a drink through my recon hood, but the dev team is NOT to going to put more work into stuff they've thrown out for "free". Now, if they work a lot of hours on something, and very few people buy it, I'd bet you'd see a $5Armor1.1 patch real fast.
Yeah I'm not going to actually pay for any armors if there's no helmet-off option. I was really bummed to finally pick up my copy from Gamestop, put on the gear, and become more and more dismayed as I searched desperately for the helmet toggle function.
Fortunately that won't be the only DLC they'll develop, so I'll be able to spend my cash elsewhere. Maybe we could get an armor piece pack?

Can't wait for a random modder to come around and fix this problem while claiming it was a piece of cake (and shaming the devs in the process).tmelange wrote...
One of the devs responded to this a while back. She said something about the way the game was designed that made it seem like this was no small fix.

No dev has replayed any question since the release of the game. I guess that once they have our money they can end their communications with the fans. Don't expect getting an answer
Are you blind? Or are you just retarded.
Anyway, ignoring retards...yeah this is something I think 99% of players would appreciate. Even the people who are vocally oppose this are just opposed to whining, but would enjoy the implementation itself.

We can't because we don't have the SDK's to recompile .PCC's
The response the dev gave was a sneaksneak answer. It would be incredibly hard to make it so that the DLC helmets removed themselves only in conversation. Thats the sole thing the dev was talking about, because the model files are a set. The dev was reponding to a question that basically said "make them toggle off during conversations". Under the current infrastructure, it would be incredibly hard.
But it was a sneaky sneak answer in reality, that solution would be superfluous, they could easily make two model files off of existing resources and implement them in the game. It wouldn't require signficiantly more work.

There is no reason to bump this, the devs abandoned the forum on January 27th.
Ignoring the fact that devs posted literally two days ago, 99% of major dev studios don't have/allow devs to interface with the customer base frequently through forums, they prefer to keep things nice, neaty, and PRdronerized through CMs.
Frankly, would you want to come to the forums to here retarded crap like ZOMG ME2 LIEK GIERS OF WAR on something you worked basically overtime/no extra pay for several years by braindead internet downies (like you)?
At any rate, regardless of our pleas, I don't see them doing anything about it. I'm sure whenever they want to patch something in, theirs a lengthy bureucracy of design meetings which require mutual consensus to implement, and I don't think they care enough to please a vocal minority on the internet, despite the fact that the fix is incredibly simple.
The best chance of getting this fixed is the creativity of modders and hackers. Anything can be modded, its just a matter of time.

Then I could just baleet the stupid helmet using Blender. It's not hard. At all. I was highly disappointed that my beloved Blood Dragon armour was perma-helmeted.
I fixed helmets all the time in Fallout 3 (Yes, I know, it has a toolset... But nothing different about the actual modeling portion). I stripped the Power-Armour Helmets down to just the gas-mask portion (using Blender) in about ~15 minutes, and had it back up and running in the game in less than 5.
And I'm a 15 year-old girl.
Really, it's not hard, BW. Not hard at all. Though I guess we'll just have to wait until someone can figure out how to recompile .PCCs. >:| If nothing else, just give us a recompiler tool so us modders can skip off into a land of ungodly half-human, half-turian models. Considering a toddler with ADHD could fix the basic complaints you're getting with some crappy program in a few minutes, you just might have that many less threads to lock.

And really, this is one of a few fairly small issues that nonetheless go a long way towards ruining the sense of suspension of disbelief in an otherwise very immersive game (another being the fact that the Normandy somehow has to leave the planet everytime you go aboard to change your clothes).

So, Bioware officially F'd this bit up. In the meantime, I live with the N7 armor.
