The Asari that relays the message on Illium if you saved the Rachni Queen say, " They remind me of the keepers on the Citedel in a way, all working together each with a purpose."

This leads me to beleive maybe what we know of as the Keepers are remains of the older Rachni that were genetically altered by the reapers. Just like how the Protheans were taken over and made into what we know as the collectors.
Just a thought.

Unlikely. The rachni wars were only two thousand years ago. They are part of the same generation of sentient species as the asari and humans. Vigil states that keepers were already on the Citadel when the Protheans arrived. The Protheans were wiped out fifty thousand years ago and were the last generation. Vigil speculated that the keepers were one of the first, if not the first, species indoctrinated by the Reapers. Since they are the ones who actually activated the Citadel relay, they have been doing that for a long time. We know the Reapers have been around at least thirty-seven million years.



The Reapers don't allow advanced organic species to just continue. They are either destroyed or repurposed. So, as I said, it is highly unlikely the rachni are the species from which the keepers were made.



Of course, only the writers know for sure.
