I know, the fact that she was a brunette was her only redeeming feature as far as that was concerned... and if she was blonde had spoken in a European or 'American' accent, I would have just been 'done' right there...

PS: I also thought Jacob was very cool, my favorite (besides Tali, Garrus, and Samara) of any of the NPCs. Only wish he had better power/weapons combo, as to be more useful in anymode other than normal..

I think Bioware did a good job with Jacob. Hell, I'm surprised how close they got him to a real brother. Sure, he probably doesn't stand out compared to people like Jack or Grunt but everybody can't be the life of the party. He's just a normal guy but I had him on my squad til the end.



As for the "Spillin' dranks on the Citadel" part that was my favorite Jacob moment and I'm black. Wasn't offended in the slightest. Hell, I was trippin' we got that RNS in space.

Actually, I think Bioware did have her concept as a European before they signed on Yvonne to do her VA.

Exactly! Every single time there is a conversation that says someone or something is racist against a "coloured" person, they switch the topic around and start racist comments against whites. WTF is with this societal attitude that says to prevent racism against colours then you have to be racist against whites.

I'm not attacking her because she is white, I'm was commenting on the fact that, since the 1930's the concept of the 'super man or super women', A.K.A  the uber race/person, has always been Caucasin.

Just look at comics:

Generally speaking, when in literature or in games or TV, when someone is talking about creating the perfect person that person is always 'white'.
Yes Miranda's father was white but why could not the writers have made him Arab? Or Aborigany? Or Eskimo?

Generally, speaking  thats one of the older stereotypes around. Only a few times has it been broken and BOTH times taht I know of on TV that it was broken was by Gene Rodenberry:

• Star Trek: Khan was genetically produced enginnered to be the perfect person.
• Gene Rodenberry's Andromada: Tyr Anazazi a Niechian genetically bred through centuries to be perfect.

Guys, stop bickering. Honestly, I liked Jacob, I'm white, and I found Miranda meh (except for DAT ASS and her loyalty mission).



The spilling drinks comment was stereotypical, but other than that, he is indeed a space marine stereotype.



I think he was solid as a character, but not very good as a companion combat wise.

There is no good racism, and I know for me I would not attack a specific racial/cultural group.

Oh no! This is getting scary. I myself am a brown American (Tongan to be exact). I'm a red blooded conservative and am well aware of what people think of conservatives and how racist many people think we all are. I know the difference between racism and prejudice. Racism is the belief that one race is superior to another. So far I have not seen that. This is a conversation about prejudice which is to prejudge someones character based on appearance.

That being said, Jacob is one of my favorite characters. When i think of Mass Effect he is one of the first characters i think of, even before grunt or jack. I always like the good guys I guess. I'm not Black so I don't have the same sensitivities about things like this but I don't see anything wrong with this character. I would also hate to see this turn into a race war, which these things tend to do because everyone involved is confused about the meaning of the word "racism".

I would like to see this conversation stay civil because I like Jacob and don't see anything that BioWare did to his character as Prejudice and would love to see more people come to his defense.

That, and I really must know what "disreputable hand embracing" means.
