To be fair, according to this poll, not many people do like Jacob. (And by not many, I mean none).
That's not being fair - that poll is for "favorite" - someone could have Jacob as their number 2 or 3. And many people dislike Garrus and Tali. So ...
Personally, from the start, Jacob was the only one I liked until I started getting old teammates back. I relied on him for dealings with Cerberus and such. His personality (what many will consider "bland") is exactly the kind my Shepard would befriend and Jacob's the kind of guy my Shepard wants watching his back.

That, and I really must know what "disreputable hand embracing" means.
It's a quote from DA:O, Morrigan is from an isolated enviroment and had very little affection growing up, so she had a problem with how people seemed "overly" affectioniate in the real world... like shaking hands...

Actually it was just that she didn't understand why people would touch each other a lot. As she says why all the touching for a simple greeting?

I would like to see this conversation stay civil because I like Jacob and don't see anything that BioWare did to his character as Prejudice and would love to see more people come to his defense.
1. The only way this will continue in a civil way is if this thread gets locked. NOW.
2. If more people come to Jacob's defense, it WILL turn into a flamewar similar to a wildfire in Muspelheim.

Yes, yes. People have already said that. Still, out of 520 people not one vote goes to Jacob.
Like I said, you could double his votes and he'd still have zero.

I think it is hard to satisfy the millions of fans though. However, I have seen some technology for customizing characters by another EA company (it was in beta last summer I think) and that was very cool. At least the demo was. Forgot its name, though. At the time this was posted on the old boards one of the ME2 devs popped in and he also said that it was a cool system. But for various reasons they could not use it. One of the things was the variable character height, which may cause problems for camera angles. I can understand that, because there are a lot of cinematics in which that could be a problem. Maybe in time there will be a solution for that as well. I also think that it would have taken too much time to replace the system they might have implemented at the time. Not sure about licensing fees. Maybe that has something to do with it too. I don't have insight in that.
Anyway, I hope that in ME3 we will see some more variation and smaller noses.

1.He's an honest man fron the gate!
2. Did play his loyalty story? It freakin out that show "Outer Limits" or the "Twilight Zone"
3. He cammands the respect of Shepard and the rest of the crew.
4. He had Miranda for what it's worth
5. He aint the only "Brotha" in space (considering I'm Black and "My Shepard" is black)( and yea...Um I've had Miranda too, apparently she's into brotha's) but that's besided the point!
6. I enjoyed Jacobs loyalty to the team unlike in the past we got Lando Calrissian who betrayed his friend. Try being black and a sci fi fan and have that as a roll model.
7.Kudos to Bioware for fleshing out a smooth character like Jacob I.e. Denzel in space...it's about time!
8. He could have his own game based on his back story.
9. Miranda even comments on his moral code (spoiler oh well!)
10. One could argue Jacob is the glue of the team as he is there to greet them
dude as an African American male, I am proud of what Bioware did to pertray a black male in space. Again Kudos to Bioware....I respect the opinion of the author however short sided it may be.
as always; Believe in Bioware........now where is that helmet Thread?

I'm not attacking her because she is white, I'm was commenting on the fact that, since the 1930's the concept of the 'super man or super women', A.K.A the uber race/person, has always been Caucasin.
Just look at comics:Generally speaking, when in literature or in games or TV, when someone is talking about creating the perfect person that person is always 'white'.
- Wonder Woman:
- Super Girl
- Super Woman
- Super Man
- Miss Marvel
- Captain Marvel(Marvel Univers): 1st one.
- Captain America
- Doc Savage Man of Bronze
Yes Miranda's father was white but why could not the writers have made him Arab? Or Aborigany? Or Eskimo?
Generally, speaking thats one of the older stereotypes around. Only a few times has it been broken and BOTH times taht I know of on TV that it was broken was by Gene Rodenberry:
- Star Trek: Khan was genetically produced enginnered to be the perfect person.
- Gene Rodenberry's Andromada: Tyr Anazazi a Niechian genetically bred through centuries to be perfect.
Ok, first off let's go through that list:
[*]Wonder Woman: Greek. Amazon. Actually made from clay. Her skin tone may be white in most depictions, but she is more or less a golem made in the Greek god's image
[*]Supergirl, Superman: Aliens. Kryptonians. You can complain about Kryptonians having "caucasian" skin tones, but they are not human. And you've OBVIOUSLY not paid any attention to any incarnations of Supergirl, or even Kara, since she died in 1985. The current Kara, not so perfect at all.
[*]Superwoman: Who? There have been "Superwoman"'s, but the most prevalent one is a super-villain (member of the CSA) so I don't get referencing such an obscure character (other than "Super") being in the name.
[*]Miss Marvel: You mean Ms. Marvel, Carol Danvers? Uhm, she's not any "perfect" person. She's an alcoholic, a militaristic person, and also part-Kree. If you mean Mary Marvel, uhm, she's a kid. Not perfect by far. She even went really bad recently.
[*]Captain Marvel: You say Marvel Universe but also first one. First Captain Marvel was Billy Batson who said Shazam! - another kid, far from perfect. The Marvel one, Mar-Vell, was a Kree soldier. Yes, another alien, and he would be called a "pink" - a second class off-shoot of the race where the dominant Kree (the aristocrats, if you will) are blue skinned. So the Marvel one was a minority from an alien race.
[*]Captain America: Steve Rogers is meant to be the perfect American, sure. Even a scrawny washout can be a patriot and serve his country (due to ethically questionable medical experiements, sure), but he's perfect physically (and, arguably, morally) but not mentally, he's not a super-genius. He's probably your best example, though. Actual human, actually blonde-haired and blue-eyed American, actually caucasian. You struck one out of six so far - unless you take into account he was arrested for treason.
[*]Doc Savage: Know next to nothing about him, so I can't comment.
Most of your examples are OLD. And fuzzy scary, as in you show what appears to be remarkably little knowledge of the subject matter you quote. And from (and I'm saying this as a comic book geek) comic books.
Let me just toss a few non-white "perfect" people at you from comics since the 70's.
[*]Mr. Terrific: Michael Holt. By definition, a perfect man. Physically, mentally, emotionally.
[*]Triathlon: Delroy Garret. Physcially "perfect" by having three-times the abilities of a normal man. African American.
[*]Icon: while an alien, he takes on the form of an African American
[*]Batgirl: Cassandra Cain. While not a perfect person, she was the DCU's "best" martial artist (arguably.) And she was Asian American.
[*]Bronze Tiger: Another of the top martial-artists in the DCU. Arguably can't be beaten in a fight (even by Batman when Batman prepared and cheated.) African American.
[*]Steel: John Henry Irons. African American. Genius. And a very good person, too.
[*]Spawn: African American. While a CIA agent, he's arguably a very good person trying to get out of a very bad situation. And possibly the most (financially) successful independent super-hero.
[*]Atom: Ryan Choi. Chinese by birth. Very smart, successful and young science professor. And a good guy.
[*]Green Arrow: Conner Hawke. A mix of Asian, African and European. He was raised basically in a monastery, and was an expert shot with a bow as well as top tier martial artist. In the philosopher's sense, he's very close to a "perfect" being.
[*]Jolt: Hallie Takahama. One of the most heroic, honest, and earnest super-heroes to come out of Marvel. Asian American.
I could dive into Native American super-heroes, I suppose, but I think there's a bigger question here.
The problem is what do you mean by "superman?" Strongest? Most fit? Genetically pure? Smartest? Most skilled? Most ethical? I hope you aren't just using the German WWII definition.
I just listed a bunch of non-caucasian (not even white-looking aliens) super-heroes who could be considered "supermen" by many definitions.
Your argument basically fails post 1970, really, about it always being depicted as caucasian. It especially fails if you look at the majority of the world, which ISN'T causcasian, and their literature.

Hold on man, I was with you up until you started talking smack about Lando....
- He was my role model growing up in the 70's early 80's.
- He was a honest (at the time Han met him on Cloud City) bussiness man trying to take care of his people.
- He spoke well, and was charning (and there was no such thing as a charming black man in movies, back then, explotation movies don't count).
- He made the only deal that he could at the time, it was either that or have everyone in his city killed.
- He made amends and got everyone out that he could (Chewie, the Princess, Luke, the driods)
- They truested him enough to help them go save Han.
- The Rebels and Han trusted him enough to make him General and lent him the Falcon.
Then again, Jacob is also a great role model, and he did not have to betray anyone to do it. Although... that Citidel line still bugs me, because.... of course african american males are going to talk like that 200 years from now... the same way we talked 60 years ago... for I myself have been known to break out and say "Well yeash siirrr Mistah BennyI I's get right on that!"

People think they can't be racist, because they like Colin Powell or Alan Keyes.
"Disreputable hand embracing" is "disreputable" because it is associated with urban culture. For a black person to be "reputable" they have to renounce the "degeneracy" of black culture and strive to be more "white." The fact that African American culture could have any value is anathema to these people.

This. Anderson should have been a squad mate in ME2. I was ticked he didn't have a bigger role in the game. The actor that plays him is great and was good in every movie he's been in. Sorry, I'm drawing a blank on his name at the moment.
