Yep, you cite three presonalites (two which are fictional), and compare them to a group of millions? Yep, that's it.

Honestly, whats with the big nostrils and loudmouthed, disreputable hand embracing. When I first heard the news that Jacob was black I thought it would be a revolution in gaming. Instead I get the same dissapointment I had with coal train in gears of war. When oh when will the day come that a video game will feature a logical, reserved super genius that happens to be a man of significant colour. It must be EA's influence because I honestly thought bioware was not of this same corruption it appears I was wrong. It's part of the reason people dont like Jacob too.

Isn't Anderson logical and reserved?

And what do you mean with loudmouthed, disreputable hand embracing?

I think what the OP meant to say is:

"I have been brainwashed by the mainstream media to assume that any black character in any medium is there to fulfill the role of the 'token black guy' and therefore there must be something racist about his portrayal. I will now stare deeply at Jacob's character model for hours and invent things to get self-righteous about because my primary mode of discourse with other human beings is primarily based on condescension that results from my lazy thinking."

I'm Black and i have ZERO idea what the OP is talking about.  I thought Jacob was a refreshing black character that didn't have to rely of played out stereotypes to attain a personality.  he was a normal guy... which is what 99.999% of us are.

A better question is why Bioware refuses to add realistic and aesthetically pleasing African style hair options for the custom Shep.
A DARK CEASER BIOWARE JACOB HAS ONE, ITS NOT THAT HARD

Captain America is white because when I think of American, I think of a white dude. Since he represents America, despite the fact that Americas only like 70% white, a white guy would still be the most apt.

Actually in America there are:

  • 79.8% White
  • 12.8% Black
  • 4.5% Asian
  • 1.0% Native American/Alaska Native
  • 1.7% Multiracial
  • 15.4% Hispanic (Of any race)
Shows you far America has come. Good thing Mass Effect was made by Canadians.

I thought Jacob was okay. It's too bad there will never be another Jolee Bindo. Bindo might be my favorite Bioware character of all time.

Good thing too since those numbers add up to 113.2%.

I can see it now.  Your custom shep speaking like Eddie Murphy asking if you fell for the banana in the tailpipe.

Probably got those stats that count white hispanics as white, since hispanic is not a race. Only an ignorant moron would say thier "race" as hspanic.

Indeed. He finally broke the sterotype of the "Big Mean Black Dude". That **** was getting very annoying.

I'm an african american and I'm not sure what stereotypes he's talking about that offended him wrt to Jacob. I found his character to be, if anything, too bland and straightforward. He's just a solid guy, what's wrong with that.

I was mildly annoyed at the fact that his father abandoned him, because that's a stereotype, but, really, nearly every character in the game has mommy/daddy/family issues, so it's not like they were going for tired racial generalizations.

I don't see what the problem is with Jacob's character AND the artwork on him was very realistic. First time I've seen a black character in a game w/a realistic black American hairstyle and -- the best part -- razor bumps. Good work BioWare.

Not to be mean , but truthfully what is Hispanic ? I mean some say it's because the person is born in the United States and not from Mexico. But most origins come from Mexico even some in South America , like how African Americans origins are from Africa.

When I can think of American. I don't think of a "white dude". I actually think of a group of people.

Oh and you're an idiot. Look at when Captain America was released. African-Americans were second class citizens.

I could be wrong but wasn't captain america created during WW1 or WW2? I mean, wouldn't it make sense for him to be white in an almost all white military? So the chances of him being anything else would be very very slim... I mean if there was a super soldier in the Chinese military who so happened to be a Navajo I would be confused and frustrated and all kinds of head spinning would be going on.

no blacks, hispanics and asians were still forced into the military even as second class citizens..they were there alright

I noticed the strong amount of razor bumps too. However, you would think that would have been fixed in the far future...
