Doing it with multiple enemies isn't really the best way to do it. What I tested was leaving one vorcha alive and having him alone shoot me. He took down a standard shield in one salvo. I retreated, cast barrier, then let him shoot me again. One salvo takes you down to about 1/3 shields left, then he has to reload to finish removing the shield. I repeated this several times always with the same result. One salvo from a vorcha will remove standard shields, he has to reload and fire another to remove barrier.

oh I know doing it against 3 enemies was probably a bit much, and I tried it a fair few times as the enemies would do different things. But I figured it would be a scenario in which you might expect a shield type skill to be of help. Which it potentially could be, but as it turns out, it's sort of like playing Russian roulette. At least I'd not recommend it for anyone to use together with charge, way to little "value" added for 10 points.



But the 1 point could in some cases where you have to work from cover, or a class that doesn't have charge. I can see it being of use, as long as there is not some other bonus skill you'd want.

Wait... did you recast Barrier after he took down your Shields with the second Salvo, or didnt you?

I would pick Geth Shield Boost over both Barrier and Fortification because when you evolve it into "Improved Geth Shield Boost" you get +10% weapon damage while it's active, which is max 60 secs, this "only" gives +75% of maximum shields, but meh, that's enough Image IPB

Yeah, i thought that myself too, till i realized, that you loose the Bonus when you loose your Shields; and when playing on Insane that happens veery fast! ^^

Also the Shield-upgrades have a 12 Second Cooldown, so you either:
- cant use our Main-Powers for about 10-12 Seconds
- or need to always precast it (thus shortening your Time to about 50 Seconds at least; and also its very annoying...)

For my Soldier it was even pointless, because his "Hardened Adrenaline Rush" gave him 50%DR and was 3-times faster in recharging.

But thats ofc personal Playingstyle  :)

Apparently it's just that it doesn't get the cast time bonus that barrier does, so it's basically worse in every way. When I was testing it I think the cooldown on barrier was 8 seconds.

Thats because its a biotic ability. Therefore you can get the biotic cooldown and biotic duration upgrades. Fortification is a combat ability so it doesn't get the same armor bonuses.

I know, which means it's useless. It can't possibly be working as intended. I mean, why bother having it as a bonus ability if it's a gimped version of barrier (gets biotic bonuses) and geth shield boost (gets tech bonuses, geth shield bonuses, AND 10% damage bonus on one version)?

Fortification should be remade to act like immunity in the first ME. Damage reduction for 3-5 seconds with a 12 second cooldown.

yes which is why I think there should be an update that makes it worth using fortification.

Maybe it changes the multiplier by turning your shields into 'armor' temporarily.

I did my tests at the blood pack base with all the vorcha. It shut off just like all the others.

Base shields are 258.
Go to 320 with fortification.
1 point in fortify.
Insanity mode.

You can also see the graphic does not shut off as well.

Yeah, your buggy. But don't feel bad, I used to able to boost my shields with Energy Drain instead of restore them. I really wish the bug would come back...it made ED so much more fun.

Um, it might be a soldier thing. Does anyone have a high level soldier to try this on? Cause I just made a brand new soldier, tried it out on the starter level at fortification level 1, 2 and 3 and fortification worked exactly as it did in gr00grams vid.

I tried it with my lvl 30 soldier class many times it does'nt work. This is some weird sh**

Yes, I tried with soldier and it stayed even after shields dropped. I have noticed that there are 2 types of shields though. Purple and Blue. Soldier has blue Vanguard and Adept have purple.

We are on to something here!

I've noticed the shield color too.
Another thing;

Adepts shields don't say shield.
They say 'barrier'.

My soldier says shields.

Perhaps there is a resistance system in this game?

Hey it's looking like it may be the level. I just took the same soldier and rushed to freedom's progress. Tried it there and it goes away and stays away after shield goes down now.

Could it have something to do with the "tutorial" level? Maybe this doesn't work outside of the first area...
