Hi,
During Garrus' loyalty mission, after fighting through some (or all - I don't know) of the factory district the game suddently freezes up. This issue happen on every single attempt (20-something by my count), while advancing right after defeating the YMIR and the blue suns mercs accompanying it.
It's a complete freeze, with no aspect of the game responding. Most times it also affects the computer as a whole, forcing a complete reboot. On some, but not all, playthroughs the freeze is preceeded by stuttering as well. Fps at this stage is usually between 15 and 20.
Vista Home Premium Sp2
Pentium Dual Core CPU - T4300 2x2,10GHz
4GB DDR3 RAM
NVIDIA GeForce G105M 512MB
I'm currently running the game in 800x600 windowed mode without frame and all graphics options turned to minimum, with little or no effect.
Anyone else suffering from similar problems, and/or know of a fix?

I do wonder if your GPU is up to requirements, but if you've gotten this far I suppose it's working all right. And I don't honestly have an idea myself.
Recurring errors in the same spot often indicate a corrupt installation, especially when the game is otherwise working fine. This can mean some trouble if you have to re-install. The good news is, if the problem does lie with (a) corrupted file(s), nothing is going wrong with your system.
If you got the game through a Direct Download service like Steam, Impulse, etc. you may be able to tell the download client to "Verify" your installation and make sure all the files are intact. If you have the game on disc, or if your Direct Download service doesn't support verification for Mass Effect, you'll have to re-install. Make sure to tell the game to keep your settings & saves if you do have to uninstall this way.
To try verifying your files on your Direct Download service:
In Steam, right-click on the game and select "Properties." Select the "Local Files" tab and click the button that says "Verify integrity of game cache..."
In Impulse, right-click on the game. On the menu that pops up, there may be an option to "Verify Installation." (I do not see this option for my Mass Effect 2 DDE. Can anyone comment on Mass Effect 1?)
Direct2Drive: Don't know, never used it. Can anyone comment?
EA Download Manager: Don't know, never used it. Can anyone comment?

I have the same problem. Reinstallation did not work - and the game isn't working fine. I had problems getting past the New Game load screen, loading the Citadel, and now loading the Factory District.
When freezing it always shows the same pro-tip; shoot around stuff by aiming to the side when using powers. There is no loading movie but there is a music loop. CPU activity drops to ~0% and thread activity shows an active string talking about looking for a pointer in Direct X sound-space.
Any insight is welcome.
