Soldier build. First fight on the hexagons. Couldn't quest anymore as Joker forces you into the briefing room.

No extra heavy weapon ammo and nowhere to hide as certain attacks go straight through cover.

Dumb as rocks partner AI doesn't help.

Frustrating to spend so long going through Insanity to reach a point where my only option is to drop the difficulty.

Must have tried it 50 times, ruined my night. Don't appreciate the 20 second load between each 3 second death either.

Don't get me wrong, love the game to death but I really hate these sort of difficulty spikes in games. Really strikes me as straight up bad design.

I know the part you're talking about and it is frustrating. Really throws me out of my comfort zone. I had to make new tactics and use squad members as distractions in order to whittle them down. I thought it was a good concept for an enemy but it could have been balanced better.

Had that same problem with my vanguard.  There is a spot you can go in cover and all their attacks will miss you (well except the assassins).  Once you get there, take your dear precious time killing everything.  Adrenline Rush + Sniper Rifle isa  very handy combo for scions.  I did not bother to heal my idiot team mates because they will just stand up and get gunned down by the scions.

If it's the spot I'm thinking of, it probably is one of the hardest sections in the entire game for most people. Adjusting your squad mates can help or you really need to rethink how you play the soldier and your strategy.

If you hate it so much just play on a lower difficulty suited to you.

I, for one, love difficult games / boss fights. It just appeals to me more for multiple playthroughs.

I'd love one of the designers or QA people (Stanley Woo, maybe?) to call me out on this, but I have a feeling the game wasn't extensively tested against Insanity difficulty. Bioware would have probably just done really thorough testing on Normal and gone, "Yep. That's fun and balanced. Good to go." and then just exponentially ramped up the damage, accuracy, health and shielding on the higher difficulties without a ton of thought behind it.

Don't get me wrong, I think it would have been QA'd quickly by the guys who had been playing it for the better part of a year in bits and pieces - but something about it reeks of just amping up basic stats exponentially with little concern for core mechanics (like ammo considerations and dumb-arse team AI).

If the damn Squad AI would actually use cover then I wouldn't complain. Insanity is fun as hell but my squad is always dead because instead of putting their backs on a wall they put their backs on the side of the wall in the sight of my enemy.

You don't need heavy weapons on the ship, doubly so as a soldier.

I struggled at the same part. I must've done it 10 times, but each time I kept trying to position my squadmates in different places. During my Insanity run, I had purposely debilitated myself by using Tali and Garrus as squadmates. However, after doing this fight on the platforms about 3 times and just getting destroyed, I switched to Miranda and Thane so that I could spam Warp. The rest was just getting the right placement of my squad.

Also, it helps to take a break if you get too frustrated. Just turn it off for ten minutes before tackling it again. These are just little tips that I found useful, especially for this specific fight.

if you got tali with you, order her in cover and only use her to throw drones on the first scion. it took me around 6-7 tries to beat it on my vanguard. and try to leave the harbinger for later, clear out the drones first so he cant assume control of another. but i think it's jsut the scions knocking your teammates dead most of the time

Yeah we get it forum friends, you're all big goddamn heroes!

I feel ya OP, Horizon and the Collector ship parts where so insane it nearly drove me...well, insane!

Only tip I have for you is ignore the scion on the left, kill the right one, and make sure to nuke down Harbinger asap with your squaddies ( I revived em for those parts, his armor is tough) and all powers, and then slowly but surely kill the baddies.

I died a lot too, but keep it up! It's not undoable!

I'm sorry but I cannot agree with this. Insanity is very much balanced for all classes (though some of them have a bit 'easier', but that's to be expected). The platforms on the Collector ship, is basically the only challenging part (and as has been stated you don't really require any heavy weapons to beat it, if you use them, well more power to you). If you can complete that part, then chances are you can complete the rest of the game with almost 0 difficulty. The Collector ship is basically a test on whether you optimized your character (especially damage output) in a meaninful way. Squad AI is bad (again no surprise there), but really, that's what medigels are for, if it bothers you so much.

this is a hard fight but if you're a soldier then it means you have a sniper rifle. use your sniper rifle to drop the SCION as fast as possible. after that, dealing with the collectors should be easy.

always target SCIONS first unless you have a harbinger right on top of you.

on that first platform, you have two tactical options, one is hide behind the far left narrow edge of cover while you snipe the SCION.

second tactic is rushing the next platform collectors arrive on. i have found this can make the fight surprisingly easy. if you keep moving the SCION will not kill you (hopefully) and you can use the better cover options on the new platform.

try not to curse out bioware, they are my valentines <##3333

Wait so let me get this straight. You are playing on the hardest difficulty setting and now you are complaining that its too difficult? I assume you wanted a challenge?

First, you should probably add the word "spoilers" to the thread title.

For me, a change in team members did wonders. ...I believe I took Grunt and Miranda.

It's pretty dumb to move to another platform after the first. It will make the second scion that much more dangerous. You can usually ignore him until everyone else is dead. Anyway, this thread should not turn into a walkthrough for some crybaby who can't handle insanity witm the best class for it.

I guess we'll agree to disagree then. I don't understand how you can call Warp or Reave spam a valid form of gameplay - I mean, lets face it, that's how most people play Insanity. (Don't lie, we know you do.)

EDIT: Actually, Reave spam is a valid form of gameplay, albeit a very boring one; but only due to it working so well. So there's another tip for you, OP. Get in cover - Spam AoE Reave - ??? - Profit.

Aye, I agree that using Warp/Reave for a substantial amount of time, is a somewhat boring part of gameplay. But what choice is there. Valid ? Well, if it works, why not. Do I think, they could have made more interesting ? Definetely. There is still ME3 :P
