Is it safe to assume that Garrus, Tali, Miranda and Jacob will be recruitable in Mass Effect 3?

I hope you get your team together right at the beginning of ME3 and they are all returning members from ME1 and ME2 and the game just focusses on the plot...with lots of interesting squad interjections and dialog relating to it.

I think this will be the case for the most part with maybe a few later recruits but most of them will be found early on.

The Turian/Quarian couple from Illium join your ship, leading to intriguing conflict as the ditzy Quarian tries to flirt with Shepard.

The only one that I think is a sure bet for ME3 is Liara but it is up in the air for everyone else since they could have been killed.

I'm partial to the idea that there is X amount of people you can recruit but only Y will come with you. This way, new people for ME3 can be added and old favorites can stay without making the squad too huge. I think this is the most logical way and all parties involved will be satisfied.

Of course they are still able to kill of a large amount os potential squad members should they be short in time. DLC, comics, books, and reduce their role to a few lines in ME3

come on guys use your head

the reason they sidelined Liara, Ash/Kaiden and wrex(if alive) is so they could have much bigger rles in ME3 cuz if they made them squadmates an one of them died then it would totally mess up what they have planned an imo im pretty sure a majority of the ME2 squadmates will be back

Miranda-yes especially if u choose the paragon ending an she quit cerberus to be loyal to you

Jacob-Debatable but after listening to his dialougue on the normandy he kinda seems like your younger brother an now looks up to u after serving with u

Garrus-almost a gurantee one of the only ppl that has been wit u all 2 games and the person shepard trusts the most

Tali-the fact that her name is now Tali vas Normandy gives it away

Mordin-most likely since ur going to need some kind of scientist to help u develop something against the reapers

Thane-providing he does not die from illness id say so he even says he enjoys being on the normandy and not alone for once

Grunt- Probable since ur now his battlemaster he will probably want to serve under u till the end of this

Legion- ur biggest fan in the galaxy of course legion is going to stay with u i actually think he will have i bigger supporting role in ME3

then i think that Samara, Zaeed, and Jack will part ways, jack maybe might stay with u but impretty sure the other 2 wont

What about if the hero of ME3 isn't Shepard and you play as someone new?

It is possible for Shep to die at the end of ME2, so maybe they think the best way to start a game from scratch, with new NPC's, would be to create a completely new character, with maybe only references or brief appearances from Shepard and the remaining team depending on who dies?

Unlikely, but it's a possibility.

Mass effect is about decision, and the simply fact they could die means that the story will not pivot on them as many other masseffecters stated.

The can die it's a fact on the game mechanics and should have consequences on the plot. On the other hand hard consequences should'nt reduce the quality of ME3 and by quality I mean new characters with strong stories that all the players can enjoy.

If some of my crew mates die have to play a game without a big part of the content?

I think we, all the fans, should simply ask the dev to do a great job giving us great characters and well written stories instead of asking something very difficult (more than 62 combinations on the suicide mission).

I love all the characters from ME1 and ME2 and i really hope to see something even better on ME3.

Shepard will be the main character of Mass Effect 3, just as before.

If Garrus isn't recruitable in ME3 I will flip out. There's no reason for him not to be, he's been with Shepard from the beginning and should stay by his side till the end.

Have you ever read the text during loading screens? One of them says "Import your Mass Effect 2 save file to Mass Effect 3... If you survive!" so you probably can't import your ME2 save file to ME3 if Shepard dies.

I doubt Bioware is so stupid to introduce a new hero in the final chapter after two games of playing as Shepard.

Edit: dammit I should've edited this post to my previous one. Sorry for double post.

They are not. They have explicity stated that if your Shep dies that you will not be importing that save.

All party members will return except for Liara who will die at the end of the second comic series authored by GRRM by a stray bullet from some unnamed batarian thug.

Also, No Moridin, no ME3 for me! Iwant more GIlbert and SUlivan funniness and him acting as my femshep's gynocologyst! (bugs...implanted...lols)

Mordin is great, but I would bet that he dies in the majority of ME2 playthroughs (because of his aversion to holding the line).

Irrelevant. You don't create a character as awesome as Mordin Solis just to drop him after one game.
Mordin will almost certainly be in ME3.

Did anyone notice that the loading screen right before the second part of Talis trial always has the message "Your decisions in Mass Effect 2 could have dire consequences in Mass Effect 3"?

Just tossing it out there. :D

maybe they will have some sort of new engine in the game that calculates who is alive an who is not an then adjusts your story accordingly

I have my doubts about Tali actually being given a place on the Admiralty Board. For one thing, considering Quarian culture - what we've seen of it, at least - she'd probably need to be made captain first and serve for at least a moderately extended period of time to be eligible. It's the only plausible path, IMO, considering how much of a test of responsibility the position of ship captain is. Her name being bandied about for candidacy is, more likely than not, just a result of current attitudes in the Fleet.

Besides, I really can't see Tali'Zorah vas Normandy being willing to leave 'her ship' and captain behind in favor of returning the Migrant Fleet in the foreseeable future. Bad juju and memories aside, I expect her to see that she'd be able to do more, more effectively, as part of Shep's crew as opposed to being tied down by the political bull**** that would definitely come should she take up office.

And you don't really need her on the Admiralty Board, either, since if you play it correctly you've pretty much impressed every admiral other than Xen.

Garrus staying around if he's alive is just as much of a given, same with Miranda and Jacob.

And they wouldn't really need to be squadmates, if you think about it. You're organizing against the Reapers, you _need_ to delegate stuff, preferably to people you trust, so I'm hoping BW gives Shepard an actual functional staff for ME3. If they don't die, some of the teammembers from ME and ME2 can take their places on that - Miranda as XO and administrator, Jacob and Garrus as fire-team leaders, Tali as head of the engineering section, Mordin in R&D.

(Only if they survived the suicide mission of course)

They just seem to be so tied up in the story that it would be kind of silly to not have them as recruitable characters, Garrus and Tali have been with Shepard since the start, helping him kick geth/collector ass several times and they definitely have the deepest backgrounds of all the characters Shepard meets.

Miranda and Jacob played a big part in Mass Effect 2 and they even had their own game, granted you will have needed to play Mass Effect: Galaxy to get more of their back story but it's definitely there and it's just as deep as Garrus or Tali's.

I'd find it odd for Bioware to not include any of these four as recruitable characters, they're part of what makes the Mass Effect universe great, they add deep personel storys to the ever expanding universe. Creating replacement characters just for Mass Effect 3 wouldn't really work in my opinion, Shepard would want people he trusts to fight the Reapers and unless he dies (again) and is rebuilt (again) I don't see why he would start recruiting random people (again).

Why would they randomly abonden Shepard at the most critical point in the trilogy?

^^ That is spot on, both characters can't be busy on some stupid side quest, the fleet is on its way and there is only  win or die, there's no hiding from it, every single life depends on it, theres is nothing else more important to be doing!
